Republican U.S. Senate candidate Christine O’Donnell came out of hiding long enough to do an interview on CNN’s The Situation Room, and things got interesting when O’Donnell was asked whether she thought Sarah Palin was qualified to be president, and answered, “Is she running for president?… Well, again, a hypothetical. I don’t know if she…”
Blind folds, hidden cameras, boats, a sex tape machine, pornographic magazines, champagne and strawberries….sounds like one of those cheesy porns they consume in the Bible Belt on Sundays, but no…..this is a the “CNN Caper”, a Right Wing Activist Plan. It’s politics, Tea Party Style.
CNN managed to track down Christine O’Donnell for a minute to ask her about CREW’s heavily documented allegations that she is a crook. When asked if she was a crook, O’Donnell went part Bill Clinton and part Richard Nixon by answering, “I am positive we have been ethical. I personally have not misused campaign funds.”
If you are looking for a reason why CNN was so eager to push Larry King out of his long running talk show and into cable news retirement, look no further than the July ratings where MSNBC’s Rachel Maddow defeated Larry King for the sixth straight month and for the seventeenth time in twenty four months, and her audience continues to grow.
Usually The Daily Show host Jon Stewart is the one skewering pundits and cable news nightly, but he took on CNN’s Roland Martin and his ascot, he messed with the wrong guy. Martin’s strong and passionate defense of the ascot led Stewart to cry uncle, and say, “You win this round Roland.”
Sarah Palin’s ties with the AIP (which itself has strong ties with white supremacists groups, the same groups the Secret Service blamed for the death threats against candidate Obama) should have been a warning about what kind of person she was, but the media were charmed by her folksy mom image. And while Americans finally decided she was unqualified to be Vice President, they never got a glimpse of the real Sarah. The real Sarah is a dangerous extremist. And she has the past to prove it.
Democrats are ultimately responsible for solving the problem of the gridlock. But Democrats can’t force Republicans to work together to solve the country’s problems, and frankly, this meme only reinforces the illogical idea the Democrats have power over Republicans. Blaming Democrat for GOP obstructionism is ridiculous. That’s like blaming a domestic violence victim for the abuser’s behavior. Democrats have control over their own behavior, and their only choice right now is to overcome the GOP obstructionism using any legal means necessary.
Republicans are insinuating that Obama’s “delay”, aka, seeking input from naysayers and congress before making a decision regarding strategy in Afghanistan, is indicative of weakness on Obama’s part. Apparently, Republicans have been suppressing Congressional War Powers and the Constitution for so long now that they just assume it’s a given that everyone does so, and failure to do so is smugly rebranded as “delay”.
With the news that Howard Dean will stepping down from his post as chairman of the DNC once his term ends in January, I wonder if Howard Dean helped or hurt the Democratic Party. The answer depends on whether we are talking Dean the spokesperson, or the man in charge of the DNC.
Two new LA Times/ Bloomberg polls released today of Ohio and Florida show Barack Obama leading John McCain, 49%-40% in Ohio, and 50%-43% in Florida, but the most telling statistic might be that 7% of those asked thought that Obama was a Muslim.
