On Fox News Watch today, Fox contributor Jim Pinkerton upped the ante and personally attacked Jon Stewart as a demagogue. Pinkerton compared Stewart to Lonesome Rhodes by saying, “Five words A Face In The Crowd, the 1950’s movie starring Andy Griffith…about a talk show host who then thought he was a political and a demagogue.”
Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert have managed to completely freak out Fox News as evidenced on Fox and Friends this morning, when the network had it’s propaganda crew claiming that Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert’s rally won’t outdraw Glenn Beck’s. Brian Kilmeande asked, “How can you possibly outdraw Glenn Beck?”
Jon Stewart was on FNC’s The O’Reilly Factor tonight, and when Bill-O tried to claim that Barack Obama is out of touch with “regular Americans,” Stewart delivered a little bit of truth to Fox News viewers when he said, “I think that sounds like a meaningless thing to say.”
On his radio show today Glenn Beck took aim at Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert’s October 30th rally, by labeling at progressive plot to win the election. Beck said of the Stewart/Colbert rally, “They are going to activate the youth to try to get them to vote with the labor unions apparently.”
In an interview with Jon Stewart on The Daily Show last night former President Bill Clinton explained and broke down the true purpose of the Tea Party. Clinton said that Tea Partiers are pawns in a game and, “The people that are funding this Tea Party are trying to weaken the government… so that they can have unaccountable private power.”
The newest Pew Research Center’s survey of where and how people get their news has been released, and while Fox News is still polling the oldest viewership, Stephen Colbert and Jon Stewart are pulling the youngest. As Stewart educates his young viewers in the ways of FNC on a nightly basis, it is clear that he is the biggest long term media threat to Fox News.
On his radio show this morning, Michael Savage launched a vicious personal attack against Jon Stewart because The Daily Show host exposed the illogical lunacy of the fear mongering opposition to the Park 51 project. Savage blamed Stewart for spreading anti-Semitism, and called him an inbred Jew.
On The Daily Show, Jon Stewart came with a solution for those who are concerned about the funding for the “Ground Zero Mosque,” being that the project is being funded by a Fox News co-owner, he suggested that people stop watching Fox News, “My point is this if we want to cut off funding to the terror mosque. We must together as a nation, stop watching Fox.”
After taking a brief break from race baiting due to being slapped down by Shirley Sherrod, Fox News has moved on to an easier target, babies, specifically the so called anchor babies. Fox News ratcheted up the rhetoric today by referring to the 14th Amendment as the, “anchor baby amendment.” Lucky for us, Jon Stewart has taken on the lunacy of the right wing anchor baby campaign.
On The Daily Show last night host Jon Stewart deftly exposed the flaws in the conservative argument against Obama that everything he does is just like George W. Bush. Stewart said, “Remember that terrible thing that Bush did that we fought for eight years to convince you wasn’t bad, but actually good? Well now we use those very incidents as the low water mark for your guy…”
Usually The Daily Show host Jon Stewart is the one skewering pundits and cable news nightly, but he took on CNN’s Roland Martin and his ascot, he messed with the wrong guy. Martin’s strong and passionate defense of the ascot led Stewart to cry uncle, and say, “You win this round Roland.”
On his radio show today, Glenn Beck displayed how much fame has gone to his head, while name dropping some celebrities and the fact that he was at the Time 100 Most Influential People banquet last night, Beck said, “It’s like Jon Stewart. Jon Stewart’s not thinking yeah get that guy off the air. I’m good for him and his ratings.” Beck keeps selling himself on the idea that the ship isn’t sinking.
On his Fox News program tonight, host Bill O’Reilly, and guest Bernie Goldberg continued Fox News’ feud with The Daily Show host Jon Stewart by calling Stewart the point man for the left wing media in America. Bill-O said, “I believe that Jon Stewart has now emerged as the point man for the left wing media in America.”
Jon Stewart opened his Tuesday show with a rebuttal of Bernie Goldberg and Fox News’ claims that he is an elitist with an unsophisticated audience who favors liberals. Stewart said, “Look, I know I criticize Fox News a lot, but only because you are truly a terrible and cynical disingenuous news organization.”
On last night’s The Daily Show, complete with a full Beckesque set, and a dead on impression, Jon Stewart mocked Glenn Beck’s recent attacks on progressivism as a cancer. Stewart said, “I looked approvingly at child labor laws, inspections of meat and poultry and other food stuffs, women voting. I thought it was progress…America I have cancer, we in this country have cancer, value and document eating cancer.”
Last night on The Daily Show, Jon Stewart delivered what could be the defining commentary on the Glenn Beck/Eric Massa interview fiasco. Stewart said, “But the more Beck struggled the clearer it became that he was opening Al Capone’s vault, only to find some dog eared, well combed over, old men’s fitness magazines.” Check out the video.
On The Daily Show last night host Jon Stewart and correspondent John Oliver satirized Republicans like Rep. Todd Akin for invoking the rapture and asking God to stop healthcare reform. Oliver said that the rapture would, “link healthcare reform with lakes of fire, marauding demons, and the destruction of mankind on earth in the minds of surviving swing voters.”
On The Daily Show last night host Jon Stewart offered his take on Sen. Jim Bunning’s (R-KY) filibuster of the proposed 30 day extension of unemployment benefits. Stewart said, “You hear that unemployed people in the middle of one of the worst recession in history, no 30 day extension of benefits until we balance the entire federal budget to Jim Bunning’s liking.”
On Tuesday’s The Daily Show, John Oliver followed Republicans to the RNC winter meeting in Hawaii, where Republicans continued to talk about fiscal responsibility while enjoying an expensive Hawaiian getaway. The point was that when Obama goes to Hawaii, to the GOP he is an elitist, but the RNC sees no irony in their own behavior.
Last night on The Daily Show host Jon Stewart lowered the boom on Toyota US President James Lentz’s attempt in front of Congress to blame the consumer for Toyota’s acceleration problems. Stewart said, “So, it’s our fault? Well I don’t understand why people insist on trying to drive the world’s largest novelty paperweights.” Check out the video:

Somebody at CNN’s Larry King Live thought that it would be a great idea to put Ben Stein and Rep. Ron Paul on the same panel to discuss terrorism, and what occurred was a microcosm of the current GOP civil war, with Paul absolutely schooling Stein on how neo-con policies help to create terrorists.
The failed attempt at a terrorist attack in Detroit over the weekend has caused Republicans to revive their claims that Democrats are weak on national security. On CNN’s State of the Union today Mary Matalin claimed that George W. Bush inherited 9/11 from Bill Clinton, even though 9/11 happened 8 months after Bush took office.
Although Lou Dobbs was a strong critic of the conduct of war in Iraq by the Bush Administration and frequently appeared on Bill Maher’s show on HBO, his constant self promotion and race-baiting ‘advocacy’ is not journalism, and was definitely beneath the standards of CNN. Let’s hope that Nancy Grace soon follows Dobbs out the door.
The Daily Show’s Jon Stewart perfectly summed up the lack of logic behind Lou Dobbs’ stated reason for resigning when he said, “So in order to positively contribute to a better understanding of the issues of our day, you must leave your nightly television show devoted to understanding the issues of our day.” Check out the video.
As dramatic as Lou Dobbs’ immediate resignation was on CNN last night, the whole story of the deteriorated Dobbs/CNN relationship is starting to emerge today. Dobbs was told by CNN to do an objective newscast, or he could leave CNN. In short Dobbs could either clean up his act or hit the road. He chose to leave.
Last night on The Daily Show, host Jon Stewart explained what net neutrality was, and also mocked the Republican opposition to it. He singled out John McCain for criticism, “McCain is proposing that AT&T and Verizon be given freedom to control what information passes through the Internet.” Check out the video.
On his radio show today Rush Limbaugh defended Fox News by labeling both MSNBC and CNN respectively porn and child porn. If Fox News is talk radio, Limbaugh said, “MSNBC is pornography, and Obama likes MSNBC.”
RNC Chairman Michael Steele was on CNN’s The Situation Room today, where when confronted with the new Washington Post poll numbers that show a majority of Americans support the public option, he admitted that the idea is popular. He tried to falsely equate the public option with government run healthcare.
David Axelrod and Rahm Emanuel hit the Sunday talk show circuit and continued to redefine Fox News as a political organization. Axelrod said that FNC isn’t really a news organization, and that they are pushing a point of view. Emanuel said that the network is so much a news organization, but a perspective. The White House is not going pretend that FNC is fair and balanced.
CNN announced today that they will not air an ad urging the network to drop controversial anchor Lou Dobbs during their much hyped “Latino in America” series next week. The ad urges CNN’s viewers to tell the network to, “drop the hate, drop Lou Dobbs.” It had been reported that CNN would air the ad, but this afternoon the network said it won’t.
CNN’s Rick Sanchez has really sunk his teeth into Fox News’ role in the 9/12 protest in Washington, DC. Sanchez took FNC to task for a producer that encouraged the crowd to cheer during one of their live reports. Sanchez said, “Real news organizations are not supposed to stage events. Nor should they promote news events. Nor should they hype news events.”
On CNN today Rick Sanchez blasted Fox News today for running a full page ad in some of the biggest newspapers in the country that claimed that the other news networks did not cover 9/12 protests. Sanchez broke out the tape to show CNN covering the protest. Sanchez also pointed out the picture in the ad belonged to CNN. Sanchez even pointed out that Bill O’Reilly showed CNN’s coverage.
Former president Bill Clinton returned to Comedy Central’s The Daily Show last night, and he had some interesting comments and insights about the current healthcare reform debate. Clinton expressed optimism that a healthcare reform would be passed this year. He said, “I have always believed from the night of the election, he would pass healthcare.”
On CNN’s Reliable Sources today, host Howard Kurtz called out Glenn Beck for failing to mention the real reason why he has been attacking Obama advisor Van Jones on his show. Kurtz pointed out that Beck has failed to mention that Jones is also the co-founder of ColorofChange, the group that is leading the advertiser boycott of his show.
Sometimes you really have to wonder what planet CNN’s Wolf Blitzer lives on. On his show The Situation Room, Blitzer put forth the thought that John McCain could become the new Ted Kennedy in the United States Senate. Blitzer seemed to ignore the fact that McCain has gotten more bitter and partisan since he lost the election to Obama.
Media critic Howard Kurtz used a segment of his CNN show Reliable Sources today to discuss the Jon Stewart/Bill O’Reilly feud. Kurtz said that there was a valid point to Stewart’s criticism of O’Reilly. Some Fox News hosts have flipped from bashing liberal anti-Bush protesters to supporting conservative anti-Obama protesters.
CNN and Fox News faced off today over the definition of the term nuclear option as it relates to healthcare. FNC claims that reconciliation is the nuclear option, while CNN explained that a simple majority of 51 votes is not a nuclear option. CNN is correct. The nuclear option is a Senate procedural move to end a filibuster.
On CNN today GOP strategist Karen Hanretty debunked Sarah Palin’s latest claim about a death panel provision in the healthcare bill. She said, “Obviously, there is nothing in the bill that says death panel. I think that is some heated rhetoric.” Hanretty is now one of the few Republicans to go on TV and tell the truth about the death panel claim.
Here is a story that you won’t be seeing on MSNBC. According to Media Matters, CNBC sent an email to a national Tea Party coordinator looking for a mob to cover at a healthcare protest. They were looking for a location with, “lots of energy and lots of anger.” Low and behold, CNBC may be trying gin up anti-healthcare reform coverage.
According to an analysis done by The New York Observer, ever since Lou Dobbs started discussing President Obama’s birth certificate on his CNN program, his ratings have taken a nosedive. Dobbs has lost 15% of his total viewers, and 27% of viewers in the 25-54 demographic.
After MSNBC’s Rachel Maddow mocked CNN’s Lou Dobbs for calling her the, “tea bagger queen” yesterday on her show, Dobbs fired back today on his show. He referred to Maddow as, “a lunatic among the lily livered, limp minded, lefty lemmings.” Dobbs, who has “questions” about Obama’s citizenship, thinks Maddow is mentally unstable. That’s a laugh.
On his FNC program The O’Reilly Factor host Bill O’Reilly debunked CNN’s Lou Dobbs birther talk about Barack Obama, but argued that Dobbs should not be fired. First Coulter and now O’Reilly, the Republican is media is running full sprint away from the birthers.
On CNN’s Reliable Sources, host Howard Kurtz slammed the recent coverage of the birthers and Barack Obama’s birth certificate. Kurtz specifically pointed to his network’s own Lou Dobbs. Kurtz compared Dobbs’ coverage to giving air time to flat earth people, and he called the coverage irresponsible and ludicrous.
The president of the Southern Poverty Law Center, J. Richard Cohen wrote a letter to CNN president Jonathon Klein calling for Lou Dobbs to be taken of the air for spreading racist conspiracy theories about Barack Obama’s birth certificate. Cohen wrote, “Respectable news organizations should not employ reporters willing to peddle racist conspiracy theories and false propaganda.”
Republicans love to talk about what they see as liberal bias on CNN, but today on the program Your Money, the network showed a flow chart which came straight from Republican Party, and had Rep. Kevin Brady (R-TX) on to explain it, completely unopposed and unquestioned. Uh CNN, your bias is showing.
The never ending war of words between former Sec. of State Colin Powell and talk show host Rush Limbaugh escalated today to include Obama Supreme Court nominee Sonia Sotomayor. Powell said of Limbaugh’s claims of reverse racism that it was, “nonsense.”Powell said that the GOP has a race problem.
After the Huffington Post’s Nico Pitney and The Washington Post’s Dana Milbank engaged in a heated debate about Pitney’s question from an Iranian at President Obama’s recent press conference. According to Pitney when the segment concluded Milbank turned to him and said, “You’re such a dick.” The controversy isn’t about the question, but that a blogger got “the moment” of a news conference.
