Mitch McConnell and his Republican brethren are holding legislation hostage until the Democrats give them tax cuts for the rich. They claimed that this pledge didn’t include the START treaty, and then like clockwork, they started denouncing the START treaty. Democrats are beginning to realize that negotiating with Republicans “is almost like negotiating with terrorists”.
Republicans promise to shut down the government whether Obama follows their orders or not because they want to limit him to one term and they are very open about that goal. Mitch McConnell was on ABC’s This Week today where he showed us exactly the kind of leadership Republicans will be giving the country if they win control of Congress. When asked how he would lower the deficit, McConnell said, “You get the economy going.” Yep, the big plan is to get the economy going.
Mitch McConnell added fuel to the Obama is Muslim lie today on NBC’s Meet The Press when he was asked if Obama was a Muslim, and instead of strongly debunking this misinformation he said, “The President says he’s a Christian. I take him at his word.”
The sixth tenet of the Tea Party is to end corruption and yet they’ve aligned themselves with the most corrupt party. Corruption spreads on both sides of the aisle. Of late, it’s made a happy home in the Republican Party simply because like mold, corruption takes root in the right environment. The modern day Republican Party is loath to hold its leaders accountable for violating ethics laws. The list of busted criminals and cheats currently in office is astounding.
On CNN’s State of the Union today, Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) labeled the oil spill in the Gulf Barack Obama’s fault due to incompetence. McConnell said, “This is mainly a failure of the administration… my point is, you can’t legislate competence.” McConnell supported his point with claims that were flat out untrue.
Mike Huckabee got aggressive with his fellow potential Republican 2012 presidential candidates today on Fox News Sunday. Huckabee anointed himself the man who can beat Obama in 2012, “I end up leading a lot of the polls. I ‘m the Republican that clearly at this point does better against Obama than any other Republican.”
You may think that Harry Reid, Mitch McConnell, and John Boehner would have very little in common, but in the chummy world of corporate special interest politics, all three of them share a top benefactor. According to an investigation by the Center for Public Integrity the top backer of the careers of all three politicians was telecom giant AT&T, but beyond ideology these three share a special interest money bond.
Senate Minority Leader Sen. Mitch McConnell (R-KY) was on Meet The Press today, and he came right out of the gate trying to score political points on the Gulf oil by blaming the Obama administration for the incident, “the administration’s involvement in this will be a big part of the inquiry.” McConnell also stated his opposition to lifting the damages cap and making BP pay for everything.
President Barack Obama and Senate Democrats are absolutely giddy today to be losing a procedural vote on Wall Street reform. Why are they so happy? If the Senate Republicans stand together and vote no, Democrats are prepared to rake them over the coals on the issue, as 2/3 of all Americans support financial reform. By being the Party of No, the GOP is painting themselves as the party of Pro Wall St.
Paul Krugman was on ABC’s This Week this morning, where he pulled no punches when discussing the GOP’s argument against Wall St. reform. He called, Mitch McConnell’s argument against financial reform as, “the most dishonest argument ever made in the history of politics, which is the claim that having regulation of the banks is actually bailing out the banks.”
After Sen. Jim Bunning gave up his filibuster, the Senate quickly passed an extension of jobless benefits 78-19. All 19 of the no votes were from Republicans, and of those eight of them came from states that face higher than the national average unemployment rates and seven of these senators come from the South. This is the kind of ideologically driven vote that could come back to haunt Republicans in November.
