Tea Party Support For The Republican Congress Plunges
A new Pew poll released today contains some ominous omens for the Republican Party. As national support for the Tea Party declines, support of Republicans by Tea Partiers is also in decline. Only 19% of Americans support the Tea Party now, and within the Tea Party support for the GOP budget plan has dropped from 74% to 52%.
The latest Pew Research Poll has found that the American people are growing disgruntled with divided Congress’ inability to do anything, and they are blaming the Republicans for the lack of progress. The big problem that Republicans face is that they sold their supporters an ambitious and completely politically unrealistic budget and deficit reduction plan that they have not been able to deliver.
After the 2010 elections 35% of Republicans supported their party’s deficit plan, support has now fallen to 22%. Republican candidates used the Tea Party to gain control of the House of Representatives, but there are dangerous signs that these same voters have already grown impatient with the GOP. Support for the Republican Party’s deficit reduction plan among Tea Partiers has plunged from 75% just after the election to 52% now.
Raise your hand if you didn’t see this one coming a mile away. A bunch of political neophytes who have no idea how their government actually works, believed a slew of campaign promises by a Republican Party that promised them things that they had no chance of delivering with a Democratic president in office, and now those supporters feel betrayed and are disgruntled and angry.
The reality is that the Republican Party set itself up for this from day one, by promising things that they knew they could never deliver. Voters have become extremely impatient since 2006. When they vote for change, they want it NOW. Republicans promised a change in spending and deficits that they could never bring about. In fact, the Republican House leadership of John Boehner and Eric Cantor had no interest in delivering their budget and deficit plan.
In a nutshell here is the problem, 53% of Americans say that the deficit should be a top priority, but a sizable number of those same Americans (34%) worry that deficit reduction will hurt job growth, and 61% of Americans support lowering domestic spending, but 65% of them oppose ANY change to the two biggest federal entitlement programs, Social Security and Medicare. 67% of Americans oppose raising taxing, and they are split 49%-47% on cutting military spending.
The political dilemma that congressional Republicans face is that the deficit is of top importance to the Tea Party, but America at large is more concerned with jobs (34%), rising prices (28%), and then the deficit (24%). On top of this, national support for the Tea Party has declined to 19%, but this bloc is still a powerful force within the GOP.
Republican incumbents all over the country are nervous, and they should be. They know what happens when the Tea Party is unhappy. The Tea Party candidates elected in 2010 could be facing a slate of Tea Party 2.0 primary challengers in 2012, but what’s even more likely to happen is that presented with a slate of less than inspiring presidential candidates to choose from, these voters simply stay home.
Either way if these voters don’t learn about the legislative process and the limitations of only controlling the House, Republican incumbents are looking at a gloomy situation in 2012, the GOP wanted power and now they are being held accountable. The Tea Partiers naively believed what they were sold in 2010, and they are finding out just how used they were by a corporate AstroTurf movement that exploited their emotions, but had no intention of delivering on their agenda.
The real agenda belongs to the Koch brothers and all the corporate interests who secretly funded the “organic” Tea Party. The Tea Partiers were used and thrown away after Election Day, but they shouldn’t worry; Republicans will come calling again next year speaking the language of deficit reduction and liberty.
All those older white Americans who call themselves Tea Partiers are really Koch whores, and if they break away from the corporate machine, they’ll quickly discover how powerless they really are.

One big problem is that too many Americans are about instant gratification, which translates into desire for instant results. Apparently, too many do not appreciate the extent of the problems in this country, and there are others who thought they were sticking it to President Obama and the Democrats by their vote. Actually, they stuck it to themselves by listening to the GOP mantra that government is bad and that the complex issues and problems in this country can be solved with simplistic solutions.

Well, people in Wisconsin, Michigan, and Florida are getting a taste of what it’s like to be under the heels of Tea Partier governors. Whatever the motives of Tea Partiers were, they did a good job of shooting themselves in their collective feet. I find it hard to believe that at least some of them were not quite willing to be the foot soldiers for the Koch brothers and Murdoch or were unaware of what they were signing on to. I would be quite willing to bet that this disillusionment extends to Tea Partiers or their sympathizers who are now getting a needed reality check due to the consequences of living under what they voted for in states like Michingan and Wisconsin.

We have quite a little war going on here in Music City,USA. The new Guv-R-Haslam, a moderate Rethug beat out LtGuv-Teabagger-Ramsey, a teabagger extraordinaire….even wore cowboy boots in his ad (then I saw him on the street downtown one day and he is about 5’5″ and teensy) and the LtGuv Teabagger and his fellow newly elected Teabaggers are causing HUGE problems for the Leg. Guv Haslam has come out TWICE, once to tell them to “tone it down with the hatred” and last week told them to forget about stripping bargaining rights.
Laugh a minute. Oh, and Unemployment Rate went UP last month.
WHERE ARE THE JOBS, TEABAGGERS?

you are absolutely correct, the Republicans number one did not have a deficit plan, they had the Richard Nixon notebooks full of empty pages.
Even now they are not working on the deficit. They Nick and shave a little here and there but nothing substantial. They are simply cutting everything they don’t like. Cutting the funding for NPR is a perfect example. They cannot have anyone listening to anything that is not right wing propaganda.
If the tea party is losing his patients with the Republicans, the tea party itself is losing its own members. The very recent tea party convention in Florida could’ve been held in a Denny’s restaurant. There was not enough interest in that convention to put pink lipstick on Sarah Palin. The tea party is a foregone conclusion in and of itself. They do have some members in Congress who before too long will be subverted to the Koch brothers regimentation.I am sure more tea party members will show up at voting time but I doubt that they will be any type of help to the Republican Party. And with the Republican Party’s actions in the house and governorships, the Republicans are going to need every bit of help they can get.
I have to say this, the Republicans have to know they are fighting a totally losing battle. Either the elections of 2012 are a foregone conclusion in the Republicans favor through nefarious means, or they don’t care if they are ever in power again

Everything they have done has been guided by their rigid, outdated ideology which seems more precious to them than the people who are affected by it. They could not care less about the deficit, or they would be going after the bloated defense budget, for example. As you said, they are only going after things they do not like, seemingly oblivious that Republican, conservative voters will also be adversely affected. Of course, they are supported by some of these very same Republican voters who think their party affiliation will exempt them from the harsh consequences that would result if the GOP succeeded in passing their ideological legislation. I just read about a conservative teacher in Wisconsin who has changed his mind about Scott Walker, now that he’s aware of the ramifications of having voted a Tea Partier into power. I suspect that in time, his story will be one of many such stories.

the very basis of the tea party claims is faulty. They are given some story about returning to the days of the founding members of the Constitution. And that in itself was a lie.
Do we remember that John Boehner said that there would be a clause in every single bill stating the constitutional resource for the reason for the bill the disappeared on the very first day of Congress? And the tea party members don’t even have the wherewithal to complain about it.
Both the tea party and the Republican party are lying and are being lied to. There is nothing like being used

They messed up the the Constitution “will be cited” in every bill on Day One – you remember, it was HB 1 and they did it after FAILING to read the Constitution in its entirety or having all Reps sworn in properly.
THEY LIE, ALL THEY DO IS LIE.

Allan West has already picked up not one, but two, democratic challengers for his seat in 2012, and he’s only been in office a little over 2 months. One of these candidates has already pointed out that West spends more time before the cameras at Fox than he does on addressing the needs and concerns of his constituents.

West must be under the tuteledge of my on congressmonster, Marsha the Moron Blackburn – she HOLDS NO MEETINGS EVER in her District. The only time you hear about her in Tennessee is when she is “supporting the troops” at Ft. Campbell, kentucky (101st Air Assault, USArmy) – Ft. Campbell, Kentucky is the SAME town as Clarksville, Tennessee and her district is gerrymandered to the extent she gets the wealthiest county in Tennessee and Ft. Campbell. The rest of the district is unemployed, rural, no healthcare, high drug use, no education, high teen pregnancy – you know, the SOUTH!

IMO, edhino, they got on a faux populist corporatist-funded bandwagon, thought they were standing up for their “rights,” were sold a load of BS, and are discovering that they have been hoodwinked. The people they voted into office have as much concern for their welfare as they do for that of millions of other Americans who did not vote for them. Their emphasis is on themselves and their corporate friends.

Very surprised that noone knows the Koch family started The John Birch society. The Tea party was just Birch number 2, same ‘rules’ and everything.
Koch family also got their money start from being high officials for Hitler, stealing money and killing the people they stole it from.
How does it feel to be used as part of a propaganda machine and then just dumped after your vote. Don’t worry, they will be back when they want to make you vote again.

All “tea-people” must go back to circa 2009/2010 media blogs for millions of posts just about everywhere, research “current history” to see the warnings from the “nazi/socialist loving liberal left” that they were “nothing more than tools for the pubs and would be tossed aside post mission accomplished in 2010/2012″
They were used And Now tossed aside.
It’s a no brainer, we saw it coming, tried to warn them, invited them to talk about what we share in common beliefs etc.
They did it their way and whether they were right or wrong….gotta admire them for sticking to their platform….
Hopefully, their eyes are opened a bit wider now…hopefully they can see they Helped the pubs “favor the corporations”..tax cuts for the wealthy, while their Own taxes were increased…taking from Education to give big business corporate tax breaks….etc. etc…

The Tea Party Movement started out as a grass roots protest, that was then hijacked by The Sacramento-based GOP political consulting firm Russo Marsh and Rogers when they slapped “The Tea Party Express” on a tour bus and pretended to be for the middle class.
The old ‘Bait and Switch”
The real irony here is the Colonial Tea Partiers were Radical, Progressive, Liberals, not Conservatives.
