Six Times More People Tuned in For Clinton/Obama Interview than Watch Fox News
By: Jason EasleyJan. 29th, 2013more from Jason Easley
Another blow to the Republican myth that America is a conservative nation was delivered when over six times more people watched the Obama/Clinton 60 Minutes interview than watch Fox News.
According to Nielson, the Obama/Clinton joint interview was watched by 11.65 million Americans. On average 1.6-2 million people in the United States watch Fox News each day. In a non-election year the political audience is smaller across the board, and there is a huge difference between broadcast and cable television ratings, but the belief that is held by both the mainstream media and the Republicans that there is some huge outcry for conservative programming is flat out wrong.
The ratings for the Clinton/Obama interview are both a tribute to the star power of Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama, and a reminder that there really is no one in the conservative movement who can match the country’s top Democrats in terms of the ability to draw an audience. The mainstream media and the Republican Party both pushed hard for Sarah Palin to be their answer, but we all know how that turned out.
The reality is that the political landscape is shifting. The myth of a vast conservative America goes back to Nixon’s “silent majority,” and it has fed the conservative persecution complex about the media for decades. The reality is that conservatives control talk radio, and the top cable television network. This messaging apparatus has worked tirelessly day and night to diminish the popularity of top Democrats like Clinton and Obama, and they have resoundingly failed.
Fox News is supposedly the giant among cable news, but they are dwarfed by the power and popularity of the current president and the outgoing secretary of state. The influence and power of Fox News are both overstated and overrated. If Fox News was effective in any way, President Obama’s job approval rating wouldn’t be touching record highs, and Hillary Clinton would not be the most popular political figure in the country.
The Cult of Fox is a tiny, but loud, segment of the political landscape. Election results and television ratings are making it more difficult for the right to deny that conservatism is on run. The 2012 election was the first sign of a generational change, and a shift away from the Reagan dominated conservatism of the past three plus decades.
As the ratings for the Clinton/Obama interview demonstrate,Fox News represents the rumblings of a lunatic fringe, not the voice of America.

Your response is that of a typical brainwashed Fox viewer. You couldn’t come up with an intelligent answer if you tried. Typical gun toting red neck mentality statement. Gosh, If your conservative station and talk show host were successful they certainly haven’t proved it by defeating President Obama and God knows they have tried, but failed.

Obviously the name “Conservative Heart” is oxymoronic, since conservatives never have any heart. As usual, the verbal diarrhea spewed above demonstrates that.

Some of my family are conservative, although I am the only one of six who belongs to a church, and a peace church at that. These relatives are angry, easily misled, and certain the country is doomed. What’s truly comical is that they claim not to watch Fox, but their complaints are verbatim quotes from that sorry network. It would be funny if it weren’t so damaging to this nation.

For all my relatives that say they don’t watch Fox — I’ve caught them red handed.
I only have one station on my TV blocked. When a relative is visiting and they bring up the topic and ask why I block stations on the TV — ‘StationS’ — plural. Really??
I’ve never disclosed to them there is only ONE blocked as I have gradually been able to pick all of them off when I ‘work them’ to finally admit it was Fox they were trying to watch. When I finish them all off, I’ll admit it to them!! GOTCHA!!!!

What an elegant interview of Clinton and Obama…such camaraderie!
The true brilliance of both Obama and Clinton was clearly obvious.

I can see how easily they could become friends, not only on policy and positions as many are the same, but in that the ‘pool’ is very small when it comes to discussing ‘living in the White House’, raising kids in the WH, the ‘bubble’ living in the WH, etc.
I took the interview for face value — first and foremost to thank Hillary for a job done well beyond any others. When Obama has introduced his new nominees for cabinet positions, the outgoing Secretaries were present with the exception of Hillary as she was ill. Obama spoke at the nominee appointments about the outgoing members, who too spoke.
It was also a major thank you to Bill for his support and campaigning, doing this via Hillary as there is no opportunity for Bill and the President to appear in public to be thanked.

That’s exactly why the conservatives are hell-bent on getting National Public Radio shut down. NPR makes Fox news on a daily basis look like a mosquito standing next to an elephant.
In my mind it’s the seven mountains attack theme. Take over radio, Murdoch is trying to take over television, the GOP is pushing private schools and charter schools that will teach nothing but religion, the banks are pretty much conservative and there is our financial market going conservative. Unfortunately all we see is the day-to-day business.

I think the piece is blatantly misleading. First, the interview was on the network. Second it was 60 minutes not national news. Third it was on a weekend. A better comparison would be to look at Nielsen ratings for that time period on the major networks. Admittedly, Fox cable doesn’t have a national “evening news” program as the networks do, but it might be a better thing to look at how their programming fares against the national news.

We can agree that theres about 310 million people in the US.Faux has about 3 to 6 million people eho are being brainwashed. So if you want to go there the effing Pro Bowl had at least 4 times the viewers of faux. The EFFING PRO BOWL.If I were you I would sit down and have a can of STFU.

If MSNBC was competing on a level playing field with Fox — Fox would be a joke.
Remember – MSNBC is not carried in all the markets by all the companies that carry Fox – yet MSNBC’s ratings in the case of Maddow and a few others have been larger than Fox.

I was intrigued by the relationship between Obama and Clinton, despite their poopsition to each other in debates. If only the Repulshricans could end their distain for the President and the Democratic party, what a wonderful world it would be. Nothing is accomplished by a duel at DC corral.
