One Video Destroys the Republican Myth that Their Opposition to Obama Isn’t Racial
In this video, the evangelical, Koch-backed, tea party Arkansas state senator Jason Rapert explains why minorities like President Obama don’t represent his America.
Video:
While addressing a tea party rally in 2011, Rapert said, “I hear you loud and clear, Barack Obama. You don’t represent the country that I grew up with. And your values is not going to save us. We’re going to take this country back for the Lord. We’re going to try to take this country back for conservatism. And we’re not going to allow minorities to run roughshod over what you people believe in!”
This is Republican politics in a nutshell. Rapert isn’t some random person at a rally, so the one bad apple theory that conservatives love to use doesn’t apply. This is an elected state senator. His fellow Republicans nominated him for office. Rapert is the perfect embodiment of the three forces that currently make up the base of the Republican Party. He is an evangelical who is backed by the Koch brothers, who is pushing the state’s extreme anti-abortion legislation, who also happens to be filled with anti-immigrant rhetoric.
Rapert is literally the model Republican. Earlier in the clip, he even mentions Obama hosting a dinner for Muslims at the White House. In a minute and a half, he invoked all of the the guiding principles of today’s Republicans. Rapert also delivered the clearest statement of why so many Republicans oppose this president. It isn’t just because they disagree with his policies. There is a belief among a sizable number within the Republican rank and file that Obama and his minorities are “running roughshod” over what they believe in.
Of course, what they seem to believe in is a conservative white man in power.
Videos such as this one from Republican elected officials make it impossible to take the party’s about face on immigration seriously. It also makes it difficult to see how a political party that is so anti-minority is going to convince their base to accept legislation that creates a pathway to citizenship.
A segment of the Republican Party has demonstrated in the 2010 and 2012 elections that they aren’t willing to sacrifice their beliefs in order to win elections. These people truly believe in the illegitimacy of Obama and the threat posed to them by minorities. This is why dressing up the same racist Republican Party with an attempt at immigration reform and Marco Rubio isn’t the answer.
Republicans can change the window dressing, but they can’t hide the rotten, intolerant heart of their party. At least Rapert was honest. Republicans don’t just hate Obama because he is a Democrat. They hate him because he is a minority who represents the changing face of America.

Virginia Statute for Religious Freedom was drafted in 1777 (though it was not first introduced into the Virginia General Assembly until 1779)[1] by Thomas Jefferson in the city of Fredericksburg, Virginia. An Act for establishing religious Freedom.
Whereas, Almighty God hath created the mind free;
That all attempts to influence it by temporal punishments or burthens, or by civil incapacitations tend only to beget habits of hypocrisy and meanness, and therefore are a departure from the plan of the holy author of our religion, who being Lord, both of body and mind yet chose not to propagate it by coercions on either, as was in his Almighty power to do,
That the impious presumption of legislators and rulers, civil as well as ecclesiastical, who, being themselves but fallible and uninspired men have assumed dominion over the faith of others, setting up their own opinions and modes of thinking as the only true and infallible, and as such endeavouring to impose them on others, hath established and maintained false religions over the greatest part of the world and through all time;
That to compel a man to furnish contributions of money for the propagation of opinions which he disbelieves is sinful and tyrannical;
That even the forcing him to support this or that teacher of his own religious persuasion is depriving him of the comfortable liberty of giving his contributions to the particular pastor, whose morals he would make his pattern, and whose powers he feels most persuasive to righteousness, and is withdrawing from the Ministry those temporary rewards, which, proceeding from an approbation of their personal conduct are an additional incitement to earnest and unremitting labours for the instruction of mankind;
That our civil rights have no dependence on our religious opinions any more than our opinions in physics or geometry,
That therefore the proscribing any citizen as unworthy the public confidence, by laying upon him an incapacity of being called to offices…

unfortunately for the rest of us, the Lord has never proven to be a good leader, dictator, president, or even the owner of the world. If the Lord is the king of the world, he is doing a damn poor job with the amount of people dying by guns, disease, lack of good water and everything else that goes on. Why on earth would anyone want to take this country back for the Lord so he can oppress the people like he has when “the Lord” was in control of other countries? Come to think of it what is he ever done for this world? If he is all-powerful and everything is because of him, then he created disease death and instruction throughout the ages. I would be afraid of him to if I thought he existed for an instant.
The Republicans must think that they are going to be part of “the Lord’s” reign, or else they have no idea what they’re letting themselves in for. I wonder how many of “the Lord’s” will come along the way to rule the people?

These are the same people who spit in the face of legislators who were black in DC two years ago, probably the same group who call for President Obama’s birth certificate…
I know they are the same party who now have lost elections and hundreds of millions in backing losers who had no common sense to run a campaigns on issues instead of attacking women, Latinos, and the so-called takers. When they mention people are being paid off they’re talking about people like me, on social security and Medicare, who are bloodsucking the system dry..
Rove, Hannity, Beck, and Rush are entertainers making over $250M per year..they tell you the black man is coming and we must take our country back and then they take Koch brothers money, American Heritage money and buy congress and senate. They tell you that the have a platform but a platform of hate toward middle class, women, minorities only resonates in a small section but it is loud and hateful.
Their platform prohibits abortion and makes a fetus a citizen upon conception. That there is legal rape and non-legal rape, who may change electoral college votes because they can’t win popular vote.
This is not the party of Lincoln..this is the party of Rush and Trump and Bachmann who embarrass themselves as they lose elections and ratings or their shows die as one by one they are fired from fauX.
If they hate the black in 2013 they sure as hell will hate the woman who will win the WH in 2016. She will name two SCOTUS judges and then that will give the GOP another reason to hate all.

Throw in a good supply of provisional ballots on Election Day for good measure. Protecting the integrity of our elections should be important to everyone, no? Food stamp president? You start out in 1954 by saying, “Nigger, nigger, nigger.” By 1968 you can’t say “nigger”—that hurts you, backfires. So you say stuff like, uh, forced busing, states’ rights, and all that stuff, and you’re getting so abstract. Now, you’re talking about cutting taxes, and all these things you’re talking about are totally economic things and a byproduct of them is, blacks get hurt worse than whites.… “We want to cut this,” is much more abstract than even the busing thing, uh, and a hell of a lot more abstract than “Nigger, nigger.”

Is “plausible” too strong of a word? Perhaps I should have said “possible”. And perhaps I fit into the category of unintended consequences when the accusation of racist is thrown about as much as it has been the last four years. Excuse me for being skeptical every time I hear the word now.

How about Mexicans, Puerto Ricans, hawaiians, Phillipinos, Indians from India, all Latin Americans…….are they also considered as unworthy of life in America as they profess the blacks to be?????????????? They need to establish their own country in some isolated island away from the rest of us. I”m sick of their bitchin and intolerance for everyone who isn’t WHITE!They are not Americans………………

Take a close look at the TEA party banner flying in the wind as this blowhard steams up the bigoted crowd. Calling in the Religious Evangelical fringe segment shows the desperation of TEA-types when he calls for prayer. “Taking this country back for the Lord” is exactly what this radical extreme says. More than love, hate, food, water, sex, wealth or security it would seem that the strongest emotional need here is the overwhelming desire to find something to be offended by. And that one issue this crowd is against – President Barack Obama! How sad, pitiful and empty those lives must be, to hate a man just because of his skin color.

And the RepubliKKKlans still can’t figure out why they are swiftly becoming the party of irrelevance.

Charlie says… “Love my good and plenty”
“Some white people hate black people, and some white people love black people, some black people hate white people, and some black people love white people. So you see it’s not an issue of black and white, it’s an issue of Lovers and Haters.

Okay, Rich…I’m going to give you the benefit of the doubt for the moment, just like I did with the guy in the video, even after reading all the derogatory nonsense you felt compelled to include in all of your comments to me. Alright? You’re probably actually a nice guy…and maybe just over-reacting at the moment or having a bad day. But be careful Rich…you get back what you give.
Watch your thoughts, for they become words. Watch your words, for they become actions. Watch your actions, for they become habits. Watch your habits, for they become character. Watch your character, for it becomes your destiny.

The funny thing is, America was originally the home of the Native American Indians … so taking it back would mean GIVING IT BACK to the Native Americans. But see, it was stolen from them … so now some folks wanna cry that they want their country back … yet … what goes around … comes BACK around again. Everybody came from somewhere, with their own idiosyncrasies, cultures, rituals, etc. Just cuz some folks don’t act or re-act like certain other folks, doesn’t mean they’re wrong!
