The Wing Nut Rises: Rush Limbaugh Claims New Batman Film Is an Obama Plot
On his radio show, Rush Limbaugh claimed the new Batman film The Dark Knight Rises is anti-Romney propaganda masterminded by the Obama administration.
Here is the audio from Media Matters:
Transcript from Rush Limbaugh:
RUSH: Have you heard this new movie, the Batman movie, what is it, The Dark Knight Lights Up or whatever the name is. That’s right, Dark Knight Rises. Lights Up, same thing. Do you know the name of the villain in this movie? Bane. The villain in The Dark Knight Rises is named Bane, B-a-n-e. What is the name of the venture capital firm that Romney ran and around which there’s now this make-believe controversy? Bain. The movie has been in the works for a long time. The release date’s been known, summer 2012 for a long time. Do you think that it is accidental that the name of the really vicious fire breathing four eyed whatever it is villain in this movie is named Bain?
OBAMA: Somebody else made that happen.
RUSH: In case you’re wondering what’s going on. I am so astounded by this I have told the broadcast engineer to play that whenever he feels like it. So he’s on his own. He’s getting no help from me. He can put that sound bite anywhere at any time he thinks it’s called for. It’s totally up to him. I don’t know when it’s gonna happen. I had Cookie roll off the little excerpt of that big, long bite, and this thing’s gonna show up ’cause I can’t tell you how it’s affecting me.
OBAMA: If you’ve got a business, you didn’t build that. Somebody else made that happen.
RUSH: Just stop and think of that, just from the standpoint of logic. And then I had to read today that some conservative commentator, “Well, the president, he’s right. He actually is right.” I’m not gonna embarrass the guy by mentioning his name ’cause I’m not trying to pick a fight with the guy. I’m trying to point out that we have a bunch of people that want to be thought of as the smartest people in the room and the most reasonable and they don’t want to be lumped in with me having a reactionary take on this. So they’re going out of their way, “Oh, no, I don’t think the president hates the country. Oh, no. No, no, no. In fact, I think the president, on some level it’s obvious he’s right, so simple to see.” Then later on they point out their disagreements with it, but after that what’s the point?
So, anyway, this evil villain in the new Batman movie is named Bane. And there’s now a discussion out there as to whether or not this is purposeful and whether or not it will influence voters. It’s gonna have a lot of people. This movie, the audience is gonna be huge. A lot of people are gonna see the movie, and it’s a lot of brain-dead people, entertainment, the pop culture crowd, and they’re gonna hear Bane in the movie and they’re gonna associate Bain. The thought is that when they start paying attention to the campaign later in the year, and Obama and the Democrats keep talking about Bain, Romney and Bain, that these people will think back to the Batman movie, “Oh, yeah, I know who that is.” (laughing) There are some people who think it’ll work. Others think you’re really underestimating the American people to think that will work.
OBAMA: You didn’t build that. Somebody else made that happen.
RUSH: Right. (interruption) At the polls, will the brain-dead people show up at the polls? I don’t know. See, I think you have to assume they will. I think you have to plan on the fact that they will show up and vote. No, just from the standpoint of you’ve gotta get your own turnout. You can’t go into an election thinking, “Well, that group’s not gonna show up. The young, yeah, they got disappointed. Obama’s not who they thought he was. Ah, college students, they’re not gonna show.” You can’t think that way. You have to think they’re gonna show up. You have to count on it. You have to plan for it and come up with a way of neutralizing it.
The Bane character in this movie was a terrorist. He’s out to destroy Gotham, New York City, which is the case in every Batman movie. But instead of sounding like Romney, he sounds like an Occupy Wall Street guy, in truth. Now, there’s a story in the Washington Times today: “Is Mitt Romney…Batman? — Opponents of Mitt Romney have noticed that the name of Batman’s villain in the upcoming film The Dark Knight Rises is homonymous with the name of an investment firm that Romney founded in 1984. The childish ‘aha’ moment was not unpredictable. Americans have tolerated condescension remarkably well for the past four years, so we can presumably take an insult to our ability to spell — or ability to follow a storyline, for that matter.”
But, anyway, I didn’t really know what the point of this story is. They’re trying to point out that in Batman the good guy and the rich guy are one and the same, and that’s Bruce Wayne. And so what this guy is saying here, hey, instead of falling in with the evil guy being Bane, let’s just say Batman is Romney. Batman’s Romney, he’s the evil rich guy, he’s the good rich guy, he’s out to save New York. The rich guy’s the good guy. Of course the evil guy is always rich too in these Batman movies. You may think it’s ridiculous, I’m just telling you this is the kind of stuff the Obama team is lining up. The kind of people who would draw this comparison are the kind of people that they are campaigning to. These are the kind of people that they are attempting to appeal to.
According to Limbaugh, the character Bane combined with the timing of the movie’s release equals an Obama conspiracy to defeat Mitt Romney through Hollywood summer blockbuster propaganda.
Rush Limbaugh really nailed Obama on that one, except for the fact that the character of Bane debuted in 1993, and this isn’t Bane’s first on screen appearance. Bane was also in Joel Schumacher’s infamous franchise destroying debacle Batman and Robin.
Limbaugh was correct about one thing. There will be a lot of brain dead people who have been brainwashed by propaganda going to the polls on Election Day, and all of them will be voting for Mitt Romney. Young people are smart enough to know that Bane isn’t an attempt at Obama propaganda, but Rush Limbaugh listeners and Fox News viewers really believe that Obama wasn’t born in America, and that he hates freedom and our nation.
The right is getting desperate. They are starting to hallucinate and see Romney attacks everywhere. Mitt Romney does remind me of a special effects laden blockbuster, but it isn’t The Dark Knight Rises.
The movie that best symbolizes the Republican Party’s supposedly unsinkable 2012 voyage is Titanic.

Nothing should ever amaze anyone that comes out of this moron’s mouth, but this is a doozy; even for Rush.

Um, Bane is a comic book character created in the early 90s. Does Rush even listen to what Rush says anymore? He is evil.

If Obama has been planning this since 1993 and he knew Romney would be the GOP candidate and that he would eventually be a part of Bain, then that is some Nostradamus type foresight. Anyone that smart, SHOULD be President.

“Last night…Every single Republican US Senator, voted to filibuster the Disclose Act, a legislative item designed to add transparency in the post–Citizens United campaign finance landscape”.
Something seriously has happened to our American GOP. I believe the Leaders and their flock have been brainwashed into a FRENZY!
‘Something’ has a powerful control on their thinking.
‘The Nation’ has an article up on Republican’s speaking on Disclosure during the McCain/Feingold finance legislation…10 Years ago!

Very unsettling to see this massive mind control happening to one-half of our fellow Americans. And all against the American People’s best interest.

At this pace, Rushbo won’t still be alive for the election. If by chance he does survive his high blood pressure until November, an Obama victory will surely burst an artery.

normal people shouldn’t pay attention to this idiot…his audience is the same as sarah palins.. has nothing to do with the real world… and he has no influence outside of that audience. They are small in comparison of an entire world that finds him and his followers loathesome.

Limbaugh and his fellow insightful conservative analysts are absolutely right. Bane … Bain … it’s so obvious. So glad to see that someone is on the ball and paying attention to this insidious attempt to subliminally influence the populace.
Furthermore, J.R.R. Tolkien was obviously a left-wing clairvoyant, as he otherwise would not have referred to the One Ring as “Isildur’s Bane” and the Balrog as “Durin’s Bane”.
In fact, who is responsible for the word “bane” being introduced into the English language to begin with? Karl Marx?

So the Blimp with the pimple on his butt has “accused” Obama of great, subtle, and highly effective manipulation of millions of people.
It seems to me that this can only be viewed as an endorsement of Obama’s executive expertise by the Romney forces.

That is totally crazy, what Rush Limpballs said. I love comics and I love the superheroes like Superman, Batman, WonderWoman and others. Many years ago, Batman had a new nemesis named Bane and Bane almost bested Batman permanently. This was well before Obama. Puhleeeeze. This is ludicrous. Totally bonkers. Geez Louise. The stupidity of Rush Limpballs. I read the whole series of Batman and Bane. It was about the same time Superman died. However, in this series, Batman was almost done in. I wish someone would do Limpballs radio career. It needs it.

Who cares let’s put it this way whoever is in office is in office stop complaining about it. Do something if you want to change it. Y’all have safe home you goto every night where you can enjoy your freedom. While you have men and woman who go and fight for your freedom every day even though you take them for granted. God bless America the place where people are free and take it for granted and whine about what they don’t got!

You know, Rush, despite the fact that you’re a bigoted bloviating idiot, I used to have at least a modicum of respect for you. Unlike some of your contemporaries, you didn’t hide your bigotry behind coded language. You made it clear as day and we knew where you stood.
Over the past several years you’ve drifted ever closer to the fabled land of the cray-cray, and now you’ve fallen over the cliff. I fear the abuse of oxy-cottin over the years have finally eaten away at your few remaining shreds of sanity, and has left you a broken, bitter blob of a man who is reduced to Glenn-Beckian style nonsense conspiracy theories unworthy of anyone with an IQ above that of summer squash. You are no longer worthy of my hatred or even disgust, only my pitty. I implore you, Mr. Limbaugh. Please, GET SOME DAMN HELP!

It seems to me I heard something similar before… maybe back when Clinton was president. It was just as crazy then as this is today. (And all claims to the contrary, Limbaugh was serious.)

He’s worried a Batman movie will influence voters to vote against Romney because the villain has a name that sounds the same as the name of Romney’s company? What voters could be so stupid? Oh, yeah. Nevermind.

I am a Republican. I watch Fox News regularly. I am not a fan of Rush. I don’t think it is fair to say “Fox News viewers really believe that Obama wasn’t born in America, and that he hates freedom and our nation.” I have no concern over the origin of our current president, fact of the matter, He is the president. I don’t really understand why many (not all) Liberals feel that all youth are liberal, and all republicans are either old and/or brain dead. I think people need to get away from assaulting Republicans for “old” views. Just because I think law abiding citizens have a RIGHT to own firearms, and capitalism is the best way to get our nation back on course, does not mean I am attacking people for socialist views.

Aha! I was confused until I ‘guessed’ that this article was written by Michael Moore, who’s fatter and sloppier and almost as rich as Rush is. And he’s the only idiot who would point out triumphantly that Bane was introduced years ago, so Rush must be an idiot for connecting him with Bain Cap. Non-sequitor, and you all fell for it. It seems the real problem to some previous posters is that Rush didn’t read enough comic books when he was a kid. Again, a non-sequitor. Most of these responses could be ‘mind-numbed robots’ repeating points made in the article. Makes ME laugh that you think this is ‘serious’.
Its NOT that Bane is twenty years old news. Its that the White House IS delighted to have this confusion of names out there no matter how it happened. Which is the BIGGEST non-sequitor of them all here, and you are falling for it, too. Cheers.
