The Wisconsin Recall Freight Train Chugs Closer to Victory
For those who thought the battle had ended when Gov. Scott Walker and his Republican co-conspirators illegally rammed their union busting provisions through the Wisconsin state legislature, think again. In two weeks, Democrats have collected almost half of the signatures required to force recall elections for the eight eligible Republican senators. Gov. Walker, this is your future.
As soon as Republicans unveiled their legislative parlor trick and pushed the union busting legislation through, the mainstream media, you know the same folks who couldn’t take their eyes off Charlie Sheen long enough to cover a real news story, treated this story as wrapped up and finished. The media may think this is done, but somebody forgot to tell the people of Wisconsin, because they are gearing up to right one of the great wrongs ever committed against a people by those who took an oath to represent them.
Democrats have fought back, and have collected almost half of the signatures needed to force 8 Republican senators to face recall elections. According to the Washington Post’s Greg Sargent, “Dems have now collected over 56,000 signatures supporting the recall drives, according to party spokesman Graeme Zielinski, after another surge in organizing activity over the weekend. That’s up from roughly 14,000 after last weekend. This means Dems are well ahead of schedule: In each targeted district, Dems need to amass the required signatures — 25 percent of the number who voted in the last gubernatorial election — by a deadline of 60 days after first filing for recalls, which happened nearly two weeks ago.”
The anger over what Walker and the Republicans have done to collective bargaining in Wisconsin is gaining steam. Gov. Walker mistakenly assumed that once he “won” and stripped collective bargaining rights from public sector employees this would be over, everyone would go home, and it would be business as usual in Madison. He was wrong.
Governor Walker and the Republicans didn’t just unleash a protest. Their actions have given birth to a once in a generation movement. This may have begun as to collective bargaining rights issue, but it has grown into a guerrilla war to retake control of our democracy. This is a public outcry born of stock market crashes, economic collapses, decades of tax cuts for the few whose costs were strapped to the backs of the many. It is a retaliatory strike against the economic parasites at the top that suck the life out of hard working Americans who want nothing more than a home, a job, a living wage, the ability to see a doctor when they get sick, and good schools for their kids.
To the rest of us, these men and the politicians they subsidize are economic leeches who take from those who can’t afford to give, and release anguished wails of protest when it is mildly suggested that they should contribute their fair share. Republicans, not just in Wisconsin, thought that the great American conscious would stay sleeping, but the pained pleas of our fellow citizens at the hands of their corporate abusers disguised as patriots have become a battle cry in our ears.
There is a freight train coming for the eight Republican Wisconsin senators who celebrated their victory in the stealth of night with the blood from the murder of human rights still on their hands. They can’t stop this locomotive. It’s fueled by liberty, and universal human desire for freedom and justice. Its speed is increasing, Its power is growing, and the journey will not be complete until democracy has been restored to its rightful owners.
In the tradition of our Founding Fathers, this is a rebellion against tyranny. Like the brave patriots who declared their independence on July 4, 1776, we are engaged in a battle for their basic rights. These eight Wisconsin Republicans and Gov. Walker’s inevitable recall will serve as a warning of the consequences that will befall any Republican and corporate masters who attempt to drain this great land of her freedoms.
The revolution began in Madison, but it will be won in all of America.

And it is being done without anyone walking around with a gun strapped to his/her side, a web site with crosshairs and targets, a parade of Fox entertainers boosting the movement, or a sign that says, “We Came Unarmed This Time.” What’s happening in WI is another Glorious Revolution.

If they are half way(or so) let me ask this. I assume that 100,000+ gets all 8? I think that they have to get 25% of each senators vote total(correct me), does this mean if they dont get the total needed they will get some of the 8 in any case? I remember seeing one total was something like 14,000?
I know the 14,000(or whatever) has to be in their district.
I am happy to see this. I an happy that the GOP senators and reps all over the US will see this. This cannot be called mob rule. This is recall by the voters. I hope that the people of the GOP suddenly come down with a conscience. conscience over party. Imagine!

The Ohio constitution seems to make recall actions more difficult here otherwise I’d be out campaigning right now. Good luck Wisconsin.

No Worries! I suppose i could have just done that too :~)
I could’ve sworn Kapanke’s were the lowest…maybe the numbers have morphed or i was looking at a different site…
I read somewhere that 14 of the 19 (R) senate districts went for Obama in ’08
I Think the effort in District 32 is well underway.

How does it feel…cramming down your throats? Hardly think so…Republicans nor the American people didn’t have a say about Obamacare and told we’d see what it is when it becomes law. No wonder Wisconsin teachers are being hijacked by extreme left liberals…such as Bill Ayers and people who despise America and all the GOOD it stands for. Some advise for you…get out of America and see how it is in Socialist, Communist countries…where despots rule, keeping the workers in poverty. I’d say go to Russia, but communism didn’t work there…go to Spain…go anywhere but leave this terrible country. Give us all a break from your constant whining and lies!

Obamacare? oh yes, that bill that gives insurance to millions of people that you would like to keep it from. That bill that denies insurance companies the ability to drop people when they get sick. That sure must bum you out. You forget however that the majority of the people in the country wanted health care.
Can you give some evidence that Bill Ayers is hijacking Wisconsin teachers or are you just talking from the talking points that you are e-mailed this morning? I know you’re not going to give us any evidence, so we can assume that you are using talking points. Who are the people who despise America? Wouldn’t they be the ones who are constantly whining about Obama? Wouldn’t they be the ones like you who are constantly whining about Obama care? Yeah, that’s the ticket, it’s people like you who whine all the time. By the way where are the socialist countries at?

And if I do remember The Health Car Reform was debated, and concessions were made to get votes. The unions in WI made the concessions that they were asked for and they were still stripped of there right to organize as a group. What is next Class Action lawsuits being taken away?

You can’t compare the two situations unless you are being purposefully disingenuous. Healthcare was debated for a year. We have still not seen the bill passed without a quorum last week. No one even got to read it. Furthermore, polls show that a majority of Americans wanted healthcare reform, and polls show that the majority of Wisconsinites and indeed Americans want collective bargaining rights for workers. it is not “ramming” down your throat when Obama ran on a platform including healthcare and was elected in a landslide. ON the other hand, I have gone through all of Walker’s campaign statements and ads, and no where in there does he say it’s time to kill collective bargaining. He does say we all have to make sacrifices, including unions – but those two things are VERY different.

Why is it people who are not native(indian)Americans are always suggesting that people who disagree with YOUR views “leave the country”? I don’t know where your your great-grandparents were born,But I’m sure you are not a native american. As an african american I can say my ancestors were FORCED to come here as SLAVES.Also since Indians are people OF COLOR,WE HAVE MORE RIGHTS,TECHNICALLY,than most IMMIGRANT WHITES,to take such a verbal stance and never do.You are probably German,or European.Check the history of your race,ALONE TO YOURSELF,THEN SHUT THE HELL UP AND GO BACK TO YOUR MENTALLY CHALLENGED,DISTORTED VIEWS OF AMERICA.The middle class make up 85% of America. To attack the lively hood of a majority shows the short sightedness you are doomed to crawl around with,America is the home of free speech, so you are allowed to be IGNORANT.HOWEVER,the complexion of America is changing, faster than your ability to deter it.Ex: After 400 yrs of opression, there is a BLACK MAN RUNNING THE WORLD,AND YOUR BIGGOTED REDNECK ASS COULDN’T DO ANYTHING ABOUT IT,now there is a PUERTO RICAN Supreme court JUSTICE,from the Bronx,(where I live)So if YOU DON’T LIKE OBAMACARE,maybe you should pack your Sh&t and go back to the CAVES OF WEST ASIA,WHERE IGNORANCE IS BLISS.

I love the self-discipline and organization on the part of the protesters, because Scott Walker would like nothing better than for them to play into his hands and those of his supporters by acting like “slobs” or “mobs.” While the protests call attention to the problem, these folks are taking it to the next level by doing something concrete. Is Glenn Grothman one of those Republican Wisconsin senators being targeted for recall, by the way?

I don’t know. It depends on what the makeup of his district it. He’s one of the teabaggiest of the state teabaggers, so his district might not be contestable. Almost all the GOPers facing recall won in districts which have a good chance of going Democratic in Presidential election years, when tons more people turn out, obviously.

What I think is interesting is the fact that no one is reporting what the unions and the protesters are doing to the republicans that are trying to recall the dem’s. Numerous recall sites for the democratic senators have come under attack, or had to be moved because of threats. I know of at least 3 that had to move because of threats, and there was one where a protester came up and ripped up almost all of the forms and wrote profanities on the rest. Now before all of you slam me for this, remember one thing… everyone is screaming for equality on this, so why isn’t it being shown to the other side (THE Rep’s)? How would ANY of you feel if the shoe was on the other foot? This is why it has all become so volatile. Oh yeah… then there are the death threats lodged against Gov. Walker and the senators that supported the bill. Wasn’t it just a couple of month ago when Gabrielle Giffords was shot, and we were all told to tone down this kind of rhetoric. Yet that isn’t happening? Why??? Seems pretty hypocritical to me. I think that both sides need to grow up and start acting like decent human beings instead of letting one group or another tell them how to act (from either side).

Unfortunately, Walker and his minions set all of this in motion with their blatant power grab. While I don’t condone violence of any kind, what ever made Walker think he could do any of these things without a major backlash? I don’t have the slightest sympathy for any of these Republicans, with the possible exception of the one Republican who did not vote to strip the unions of collective bargaining. Where was the concern of Walker and his gleeful sychophants for “equality” when he decided on this course of action? And he also wants to defund Planned Parenthood in Wisconsin, regardless of the inevitable costs in the form of more kids who may be neglected and abused and requiring welfare to take care of them; more preventable deaths from STD’s as well as breast and uterine cancer; and the limitations on access to birth control which would precipitate the first circumstance. If you are indeed “sick of it all,” you need to place the blame exactly on where it belongs–Scott Walker, one of the Koch brothers’ willing water boys.

See, you think no one had the bill because they told you that on TV, but they had it for a year. It was ONLINE for everyone to read. Where were you? It’s not our fault Republicans refused to read it for a year. They claimed they didn’t have the time. What are all of those tax payer funded aides doing for Republicans? They have more aides than Democrats- I guess because they don’t yet know how to read bills, and still, they couldn’t read it.

Polls showed the majority of Americans wanted health care. Polls also showed that the majority of Wisconsinites and moreover Americans want collective bargaining. The health care bill was also debated for a year. The fact that the republicans wouldn’t concede anything and were dubbed “the party of ‘no’” paints an eerily similar picture to what the republicans are doing here in Wisconsin. Just because Fox tells you something VL doesn’t make it true.

@Sick of it all
Right…all those mob attacks and attempts on the lives of Repubs…their offices burned to the ground, casualties in the streets…Oops, I guess Repubs are going to have to work harder to get people to mindlessly repeat stories about the fictitious attacks on them. Perhaps you missed Walker’s discussion about planting troublemakers among demonstrators…and that Walker refuses to release any emails except those from his disingenuous “negotiation” pretense. Perhaps the media hasn’t reported the supposed “threats” and “attacks” on Repubs because, even though they’re the kind of complete fiction meant to demonize demonstrators the media gobbles up, some media outlets have some limits to the degree to which they can report outright lies. The real reason for the disarray surrounding the recall of Democrats is that it is not going well…Repubs have cloaked their efforts in secrecy (as usual), even refusing to release numbers because they don’t want light to shine on their anemic campaign. The “attacks” myth is just a cover to give them an excuse for their failure. Frankly, the People really don’t give a rat’s &%$ what the Repubs do with their feeble efforts to recall Dems, we’re far too busy trying to keep Fitzgerald from illegally disenfranchising us by barring our senators from voting, and doing a rockin’ job of collecting signatures to recall Repub senators.
BTW, we’ve been acting like “decent human beings” for a decade now, while the Walkers, Fitzgeralds and Grothmans of the world have called us “unpatriotic,” “unAmerican,” “socialists” and “commies” (and now “slobs”) for having the temerity to say, “Gee, wouldn’t be nice if all Americans had the opportunity to earn living wages, have access to affordable healthcare and retire with dignity.” Now when the Repubs work to further depress wages, dismantle public education and ruin small businesses (as Democrats, save 14 state senators, sit on their hands)…we’re being “unequal” because we’re saying, “ENOUGH ALREADY!” I can just imagine plantation owners drinking their julips complaining about those “uncivil” slaves crying out when whipped…yeah, we’re being “unequal”…right.
You go right ahead and participate in the destruction of the middle class…no one’s stopping you from working against your own interests, but don’t you dare call us hypocrites just because we’re no longer sitting idly by letting cheap labor conservative puppets further enrich corporations on our backs.
Perhaps you consider this getting “slammed”…I hope, instead, it’s a wake up call to stop allowing yourself to be duped by people who not only lie, but take pride in telling you they’re lying. Take a few minutes to follow the money…who has it and who is in line to get more of it. Take a look at the working and middle class lives of those supposedly “richly compensated” public workers (with their mortgages and second-hand cars). Count the numbers of jobs created with the succession of tax cuts that have been given corporations and the wealthy over the past decade. Take a look at the profits listed on corporate balance sheets and the payouts to their CEOs and shareholders. I’m guessing if you take a long hard look at all of that, you might actually become “sick of it all” and see that my rhetoric IS toned down…perhaps you’ll see me not as “volatile,” but pushed to the point of having to fight to protect my very life and my children’s future.
