McCain: Town Halls are Beneath a World Wide Celebrity like Obama

ImageThe McCain campaign continued their strategy of negative attacks against Obama, but putting out a statement which implied that Obama considers himself too big of a celebrity to appear at joint town hall events with John McCain.

McCain spokesman Brian Rogers said, “John McCain looks forward to debating Barack Obama as often as possible, but it’s disappointing that Senator Obama has refused his offer to do joint town hall meetings. We understand it might be beneath a worldwide celebrity of Barack Obama’s magnitude to appear at town hall meetings alongside John McCain and directly answer questions from the American people, but we hope he’ll reconsider.”

Rogers implied that Obama was all talk, “The American people expect and deserve no less. Unfortunately, it appears that Barack Obama’s tough-guy talk on ‘duels’ this week was just more empty words. Americans are quickly coming to the conclusion that it’s better to look at what Barack Obama actually does and not listen to what he says.”

The McCain campaign may get some short term help from these negative attacks on Obama now, but if they intend on doing this up to Election Day, they better be prepared for a backlash. McCain supporters compare his attacks on Obama to the swiftboating of John Kerry. The big difference between the two is that the negative attacks in Kerry didn’t start until after he officially accepted the Democratic nomination. This latest attack isn’t about debates. The point is to paint Obama as a celebrity who thinks that he is too good for regular people.

John McCain as the common man doesn’t really play well. Most people don’t wear $500 loafers to work. Most people aren’t married to a wealthy heiress, and enjoy a life of luxury the way John McCain does. To me, all of the McCain campaign’s griping about Obama’s celebrity sounds like sour grapes from a former media darling. Mark today down as another day when McCain decided to focus on negative attacks instead of the issues, so much for the clean campaign that he promised to run.

  1. None of us are interested in boring Town Hall Meetings. We are also not interested in negative attacks from either candidate. Keep in mind that Barack Obama is not obligated to anyone financially, which means he will only be accountable to himself and to the people who put him there through donations in a Grass Root Movement.

If the Republicans really wanted to win they should have changed the law and run Arnold Schwarzenegger for President.

We all know that John and Cindy McCain committed adultery while John was married to Carol McCain and its difficult to have respect for him. There are a lot of war heros who lost their arms, legs, etc. and that makes those men far more of a hero than John.

  2. I personally think john mccain needs to back off of barack obama. As you can see, he’s talking negative about obama so much that he is not focusing on himself anymore. Everytime he makes a comment about what he’s going to do to change the world, it’s always something he’s comparing to what obama said. He is to old to be the president and I think it’s a racial issue because I listen to what he says and only a prejudice person keeps on attacking someone with harsh words like that. So to you obama if you ever get this comment, don’t back down out of anything because that selfish mccain wants you to back down by critisizing you. It’s almost over and you are going to win so just let him keep running his mouth until his dentures fall out. No one knows what Barack is going to do so for everyone who thinks he is only going to help black people, look at what he did growing up for all races and sit back, Thank You!!!!!!

  3. For a man, who is seventy-two he should what wants he says, for no one wants an old man as president.

  4. You called McCain selfish. Senator McCain has been serving this country since he was 17 years old. He has shown courage and defines the word Patriot. In contrast, Senator Obama admitted he was smoking pot and snorting coke at about the age Senator McCain was serving in the Navy, flying missions in Vietnam until he was shot down and spent more than 5 years in the worst P.O.W. camp known as the Hanoi Hilton. To reply to your inaccurate portrayal of Senator McCain as a racist, I’ll remind you that it was Senator Obama who belonged to the bigoted, white-hating congregation at the Unity Church of Christ, under the guidance of such hate mongers as Rev. Jeremiah Wright and Louis Farrakhan. I respect your right to have an opinion, but don’t you owe it to yourself and your country to educate yourself about these two men. Please do not let the mainstream media guide your thoughts. Exercise your right as an American to learn the facts on your own. The news media are owned by corporations who have their own agenda. Do you think these organizations care about our nation? I believe they care about their profits and are backing the candidate that is going to give them the most news, and we all know good news doesn’t sell. It is widely known of the media, “if it bleeds, it leads”. You encouraged Senator Obama not to back down, but he’s got to stand for something first.
