Obama Promises Bipartisan Work on Federal Bailout

Last updated on August 11th, 2014 at 12:00 am

In response to being invited to the White House for a bipartisan meeting on Thursday with President Bush, the presidential campaign of Barack Obama put out a statement promising to do whatever is necessary in order to come up with a final solution to the crisis.

Obama/Biden spokesman Bill Burton said, “A few moments ago, President Bush called Senator Obama and asked him to attend a meeting in Washington tomorrow, which he agreed to do. Senator Obama has been working all week with leaders in Congress, Secretary Paulsen, and Chairman Bernanke to improve this proposal, and he has said that he will continue to work in a bipartisan spirit and do whatever is necessary to come up with a final solution.”

Burton also repeated Obama’s belief that the presidential debate should be held on Friday night, He strongly believes the debate should go forward on Friday so that the American people can hear from their next President about how he will lead America forward at this defining moment for our country.” Besides the fact that it looks like McCain’s stunt of trying to get the debate rescheduled so that he looks like a leader has failed, this meeting tomorrow at the White House is designed to sway disgruntled members on both sides of the aisle in Congress who are unwilling to support the plan.

I have a background in public policy, and I am not sure if this bailout will work. The truth is that nobody is sure, but doing nothing is not an option. The only thing that is certain is that doing nothing is certain to make things worse. I think the actions of the two campaigns really say a great deal about the two candidates. Obama is interested in finding a solution, while McCain is trying to find an angle that he can use to stabilize his freefalling presidential campaign.
