ImageTwo anti-abortion groups, Missouri Right to Life, and the Family Research Council Action have launched ads on election eve which claim that Barack Obama supports infanticide, and he wants to overturn the ban on partial birth abortion.

The Missouri Right to Life ad is an excerpt from a longer video, which makes the claim that Obama supports infanticide.

Here is the Family Research Council Action ad which claims that Obama wants to kill babies, by rolling back the ban on partial birth abortions:

It doesn’t seem to matter to these groups that their ad claims aren’t true. Obama is in favor of the partial birth abortion ban. Here is what he said about it during an April 27, 2008 interview on Fox News Sunday, “On an issue like partial birth abortion, I strongly believe that the state can properly restrict late-term abortions. I have said so repeatedly. All I’ve said is we should have a provision to protect the health of the mother, and many of the bills that came before me didn’t have that.”

This is nothing more than the typical Republican scare out the vote effort. The Missouri Right to Life ad is running so late because the candidates are in a close race there. These ads aren’t meant to persuade anyone who is on the fence. Their intention is to rally social conservatives to show up at the polls tomorrow and vote.

All in all, I don’t think it matters if the social conservatives come out for McCain. He is probably going to get swept under a tidal wave of new and angry voters, but this won’t stop the GOP from distorting Obama’s record through the bitter end.
