Rush Limbaugh: Obama is frightened of me

ImageRush Limbaugh fired back at Barack Obama today, after Obama told Republicans last week that they need to stop listening to the right wing talker if they want to get things done. On his show today Limbaugh said that Obama is more frightened of him than of the Republican Party.

According to the New York Post, Limbaugh opened his show by saying, “I’m the man you should not be listening, according to President Obama.” Which is a reference to Obama’s comment to Republican leaders that, “You can’t just listen to Rush Limbaugh and get things done.”

“He’s more frightened of me than he is of (House Republican Leader) John Boehner, which doesn’t say much for our party. The Republicans haven’t been listening to me, anyway,” Limbaugh said. “It’s a moot point.” This is no surprise as Rush is once again pampering his huge ego. Why is it when these conservative blowhards start to see their ratings decline, the first thing they do is claim that their opponents are afraid of them? This is a common tactic of both Bill O’Reilly and Limbaugh.

Obama is in no way afraid of a talk show host whose greatness and influence exists solely in his own mind. Remember how Rush’s guerrilla campaign was going to lead to Republicans voting in mass for Hillary Clinton, and set her up for the Democratic nomination? As you can tell by the lack of a new President Clinton in the White House, that campaign was not such a rousing success, but Rush has been hit by the economy just like everyone else. He needed a new gimmick to boost his rating, so he is rejoicing that Obama has played along.

Limbaugh does have a point about the state of the Republican Party. It is a complete disaster right now, but the last thing the GOP should do is listen to talk show host who has never had the guts to actually put it on the line and participate in politics. If Rush can save the GOP, then he should run for office. The reality is that this is all a big game. Limbaugh is an entertainer, and he knows it. His attacks on Obama are all about making his listeners feel good and strong again. He is selling the dream that a popular president fears them, when the truth is that they fear the strength of Obama.
