Boortz: People on Welfare Should Not Be Allowed to Vote

On the Neal Boortz Show today, host Neal Boortz claimed that anyone who didn’t get their TVs converted to digital, they shouldn’t be allowed to vote. He also said that people still living in Katrina trailers should not be allowed to vote. He also claimed that anyone in Section 8 housing or on welfare should not be allowed to vote.

Here is the audio courtesy of Media Matters:

Boortz, “Nobody has griped yet about my idea that everybody that didn’t get their TVs converted to digital should have their voter registration cards seized…Everybody still living in a hotel or trailer after Hurricane Katrina, no votes, can’t vote again, ever, ever. Everybody living in Section 8 housing, should not, nobody living in Section 8 housing should be allowed to vote, and don’t give me this elderly, if you’re elderly and living in Section 8 housing, you’ve done a piss poor job of planning your life, no vote for you.”

He continued his rant later, “We have to do something to get the fools and the ignoramuses out of the voting booth in this country. It is beyond absurd that there are laws that require a local jurisdiction to register somebody to vote when they apply for welfare. That is so self destructive. It ought to be the exact opposite way, when you apply for welfare you should give up your voter registration card, not fill out a form.”

Boortz also claimed that there is no constitutional right to vote in a federal election, so he proposed that the nation create a common sense approach to keep people away from the voting booth on Election Day. Boortz believes the Fifteen Amendment does not apply, but Section 1 of the Fifteenth Amendment states that, “The right of citizens of the United States to vote shall not be denied or abridged by the United States or by any State on account of race, color, or previous condition of servitude.”

More importantly, the Voting Rights Act of 1965, and its legislative follow-ups ban the exact type of discrimination that Boortz is talking about. The reason why Boortz wants ban the poor from voting is because the majority are Democrats. When he refers to getting the fools out of the voting booth, he really means getting Democrats out of the voting booth. The fact that he is so willing to throw out the Democratic process puts him in the same league as the regime in Iran.

Women also vote heavily for Democrats. Does this mean that they too should lose the vote? Boortz wants to limit the vote to white male property owners. He is an extremist, but this is the type of thinking that is being shared on right wing talk radio. He is saying, damn the Constitution, Republicans want to win, even if we have to take away the right to vote to do so.

  1. I totally agree the liberals in this nation use the welfare card to keep people down so they can stay in power. How many times do you hear a liberal say if you vote for a conservative they will take away your free check and they only want to keep you in poverty and welfare. Yet these poor saps vote for the liberals so they “can get a fair shake” then what happens they are still in povery. It doesnt take a rocket scientist to figure out that it is a play by the liberals to get votes.

  2. You shouldn’t be able to vote for your pay check! It’s time to stop with the PC crap. If you’re on welfare you can vote when you get off the rolls. Those who pay taxes should vote.

  4. This is a response to Anonymous “Social bookmark dated: August 22,
2009 at 8:18 pm”: That is one of the stupidest statements I have
ever heard ““People on Welfare Should Not Be Allowed to Vote” No, I
don’t think so. The more people who vote the better for everyone.”
One of the biggest problems we have in the USA is people on the
dole have the right to vote, if these able to work leeches on
society are on Welfare or any other government handout program
including the “earned income credit (EITC)”. How do you earn
something that is given to you by the government from tax payers,
the answer is YOU DON”T and you should not be allow to vote in any

  5. Hm. The “people on welfare” are your neighbours. Your kids,
sometimes. In this economy, might be your parents. It’s damn
difficult to find a job when you are over 45 or 50 and the plant
shut down. Is there any place else that can use your skills? Quite
likely yes – in Mexico or China. So class warfare is pretty damn
stupid when for most people, belonging to the “upper class” is much
more a question of wishful thinking than reality, and falling to
the bottom – joblessness and homelessness – is just one on-the-job
injury away. These are very real concerns for people, and Not
Thinking About It, or blaming the entire problem on “those
parasites” is even worse. It’s not just that it’s mean spirited.
It’s that it’s a self-fulfilling prophecy. People react to how they
are thought of. People who are treated like scum start acting like
it. Forbidden to participate in society (in ways such as voting),
kept separate from “the good people” by all sorts of ways and means
social and economic, denied social networking because being “on
welfare” means that you are – to people like you – unemployable…
well. What is the next logical step? Let me put it to you this way
    – there are a LOT of people for whom “three hots and a cot” sounds
like a good idea. Even in prison. And certainly the *risk* of that,
compared with the reward of, say, a pot grow or a meth lab…
Remember how very freakin’ hard it was for the FBI to catch the
various bank robbers of the 20th Century? Well, it’s because poor
people didn’t have much reason to keep their eyes open. Back then,
there were haves and have nots, these guys were sticking it to the
haves – and they just couldn’t see a problem with that.
Particularly when the “haves” sad jerkish things like this that
were published in the newspapers every day.

  6. I totally agree with welfare people losing their right to vote. Maybe this could give the 3rd and 4th generation welfare families a little incentive to get up and work so their voices count on election days. If you dis-agree, we can adjust it so that if you are on welfare less than 5 months—-sure, I give you your rights back. Welfare mouchers dont realize that they are the problem with our economy. If they actually worked, the government could put that money where it really needed to go. If 30% of them worked and made a pay check, the amount of new money would boost the economy. The government has been so foolish with the welfare system and it is so far out of hand, honestly–I dont think they will ever get control of it. Its sad and very disappointing.
