Bill Maher Takes on Reverse Racism and the Sotomayor Hearings

Comedian Bill Maher was on MSNBC’s Hardball tonight, where he offered his unique take on the Sonia Sotomayor hearings, “All these white people, especially white men who are so incensed about reverse racism and Sotomayor because the problem for too long is Puerto Rican women have had their boot on the neck of white men.” Check out the video.

Maher cut to the heart of the foolishness, “You saw this all day with the Sotomayor hearings. All these white people, especially white men who are so incensed about reverse racism, and Sotomayor, because you know the problem Chris, is that for too long Puerto Rican women have had their boot on the throat of white America , and this must stop.”

Here is what Maher said about Lindsey Graham’s questioning of Sotomayor’s temperament, “Temperment and background, they all act like her background as a Puerto Rican woman, I don’t know how you walk around being that, is somehow different than you know like Jeff Sessions background as a Southern you know come on, he was sort of cast as a racist at one point, like that doesn’t come into play in his decision making.”

I have to admit that I am in the bag for Bill Maher’s equal opportunity grumpy Libertarian comedy. Many people have problems with Maher’s observations because they are so blunt, and he is one of the few comedians who don’t use humor to soften the blow. Even when I disagree with him, I can still appreciate the intelligence of his humor. Maher is right on the money, especially concerning the farce of reverse racism, and some of the questions towards Sotomayor.
