On his radio show today, Rush Limbaugh ordered Republicans not to compromise on heathcare reform. He stated that there was nothing in the House healthcare bill worth having. Limbaugh said, “No, no this has to be stopped you don’t compromise with socialists. You beat them.”That’s it Rush, keep leading the GOP off the cliff.

Limbaugh said, “Is there anything good in the heathcare plan? You know what that question, it illustrates the desire that a lot of Americans have, can’t we just get along, is there just can’t we find something to say good? In this case bottom of my heart honest, there is nothing in this bill worth having, if we have to take everything else along with it. There may be a couple of good ideas, I don’t know, but they’re not worth having if all 1,016 other pages are filled with the garbage that they are filled with. No, no, this has to be stopped you don’t compromise with socialists, you beat them. You don’t compromise with people that want to take your freedom away, you beat them.”

Exactly what freedom will healthcare reform take away? The freedom to be raped by the insurance companies, or is the freedom to be denied treatments because some bean counter claims that it is too expensive. Would people be losing the freedom to not be able to afford to see a doctor? It is easy for the super rich like Rush Limbaugh to take an ideological stand. It is a lot more difficult for a middle class person who doesn’t have or is getting squeezed by health insurance costs to take the same position.

Limbaugh’s logic is the reason why Republicans lost elections in 2006 and 2008, and they will continue to lose elections in 2010 and 2012. Elections can’t be won by just saying no. The Democrats tried this strategy during their dark days, and it was a resounding failure. Rush’s comments demonstrate that Republicans are more interested in saying no than carrying out any real reform.
