Glenn Beck Omits the Real Reason Why He is Attacking Van Jones

On CNN’s Reliable Sources today, host Howard Kurtz called out Glenn Beck for failing to mention the real reason why he has been attacking Obama advisor Van Jones on his show. Kurtz pointed out that Beck has failed to mention that Jones is also the co-founder of ColorofChange, the group that is leading the advertiser boycott of his show.

Here is the video of Kurtz from Media Matters:

Kurtz said, “Glenn Beck devoted sometime this week to trashing a man named Van Jones, a special advisor at the White House Council on Environmental Quality…and why is it that the Fox News host would target this relatively obscure administration official, along with that scary music? Van Jones was a cofounder of ColorofChange. An advocacy group that has been promoting an advertising boycott of Beck’s show over his denunciation of President Obama as a racist. Some three dozen advertisers have pulled their spots from the program, a detail that Beck somehow neglected to mention.”

First off the actual number of advertisers who have left Beck is 47, which is closer to four dozen than three dozen. Secondly, Beck has claimed that he has attacked Jones before, and he has mentioned Jones in passing in a few segments, but never had Jones gotten the full video montage and scary music treatment until last week.

Jones may have been attacked by Beck before, but he was never the focus before last week. It is awfully tough to ignore the “coincidence” that the host just happened to go after Jones as the advertiser boycott carried out by a group that he co-founded continues to gain steam. By discrediting Jones, Beck is trying to take the steam out of the boycott.

He is also feeding his fans a new conspiracy theory that the communists in Obama’s administration are out to get him. I have read some right wing pieces which claim that the boycott is a failure because Beck has seen his audience grow lately, but these people are missing the point. The boycott is directed at advertisers not viewers. ColorofChange is urging companies not to advertise. It is not targeting his viewers.

Kurtz’s piece was making the point that Beck is being far from honest about his motives for going after Jones. Of course, Beck has probably been ordered by his bosses not to mention the boycott or ColorofChange by name. When one becomes an enemy of FNC, your name is not mentioned on the air, just ask Keith Olbermann about that one.

  2. Like always, the liberal media doesn’t has their facts straight. Beck mentioned CoC on Mondays show, but who cares. Mr. Kurtz was able to submit Becks info about this self proclaimed communist Van Jones, so people know with what kind of people Potus surrounds himself, as the Prez said himself. By the way, Van Jones is the one who ordered the boycott, by CoC which he co’founded to get even with Beck, but it backfired, what a shame.

  3. I thought I’ve heard him mention the commie more than a few times in the past month at least. Remember, when he was linking all these groups ACORN, SEIU, Hcam and CoC? Maybe you should watch it sometime instead of taking someone else’s word for it.

What did we call folks that were warning about a terrorist attack 8 years ago? They happened to be RIGHT!

  4. Glenn Beck is absolutely Brilliant… this is the most amazing stuff I’ve seen on the News. Someone actually finding the answers to questions I have. Such as where are all these bills congress “MUST PASS” are coming from? Who are these Czars? He has opened up a whole new world of Questions within politics by discovering people who are very questionable that have been appointed by the President. This question “NEEDS” to be answered just as fast as the the “NEED” to push these bills through congress.

  5. So the facts behind Van Jones past affiliations with sketchy groups as well as his un-American views were NOT the real reasons for Beck to highlight this guy’s newly appointed Czarness? Oh gee how silly of us who think it’s more important to out the members of Obama’s posse than to give a —- who isn’t advertising on Becks show and why. When Becks fans start boycotting those wimps who’ll be the bigger losers?
    Yeah, thought so.

  6. Were are the libs comments about Van Jones, a admitted Commie, who is “The Leader’s” new green job Czar and adviser in the White House. They usually spout off about the Right, but seem to very quiet about this. Can just imagine the outrage if GWB
had a admitted commie advising him.

  7. So Glenn Beck’s advertisers have no freedom to speak? They should just pay for any show without having any say where their money goes?

    Now that is communism.

It didn’t effect anything. Glenn just got sponsors of organizations that favor his view points.

  8. Well… yeah, because it would be like, the anti-fringe of the right. Trust me, Bush had some questionable advisers. I mean sheesh, his advisers were telling him torture was legal. Now that’s some scary stuff.

  9. Glenn started investigating Van Jones…then the CoC launched the compaign.
Do you guys call yourselves reporters? Pathetic.

  10. And would have this campaign been successful if Glenn didn’t put his foot in his mouth? Nope. He walked right into it.

  11. The company you keep…

From Rev. Wright to Van Jones and all those inbetween. and who’s the racist?
Glenn Beck didn’t speech write for either of those men did he? Oh he didn’t that’s right he just showed the country what they said-in their own words, from their own mouths.

Instead of kicking the messenger kick the message by Van Jones, unless of course you agree with them. In which case you’ll inhale for 20 years the racist view or hire them to give you advice. What kind of advice is up for speculation.

  12. Where was all the hate for Beck when he was attacking Bush? There seems to be a lot of hate for Beck but it all seems to be personal attacks with no real substance. What happened to real journalism?

  13. Van Jones is a smooth talking danger to this country. He should still be an advisor to the president on what not to do. This is one more problem this country cannot afford to have!
    GET HIM OUT OF WASHINGTON!!!!!

  14. Well, if you Bush’s advisor advocating torture as legal being creepy, you’ll love the new
Presidential Authorized Asassination Program. Yeah, just label some one terrorist and then kill them. Check it out. For real.
