Don Imus was on Fox News today hyping his new Fox Business show, and as he and Neil Cavuto were discussing Sarah Palin Imus said, “She should have had enough sense to know she wasn’t ready for primetime…to sit down and not be able to get through an interview with that little rodent over at CBS, Katie Couric is absurd.”

Imus said, “Here’s the thing to be serious for a second. Here’s what in my mind calls into question her judgment. She should have had enough sense to know that, to employ another trite phrase, primetime, because she wasn’t. I mean to sit down and not be able to get through an interview with that little rodent over there at CBS, Katie Couric is absurd.”

Cavuto bailed Imus out by asking if he just called Katie Couric a rodent. This gave Imus the opening he needed to cover his butt. Imus clarified, “Kidding, affectionate, she’s a cute little rodent, more like a Minnie Mouse, not a sewer rat in New York. By the way, that could have gone right by, the little rodent at CBS. You didn’t have to call attention to it.”

Let the countdown begin for how long it will take Imus and his chronic foot in mouth disease to self destruct again. Of course, since he is now on Fox Business, which is a network that quite literally, virtually no one watches, this may be the perfect fit for him. Fox is trying to give Imus the full push though by having Glenn Beck on as his first guest on Monday.

Fox Business has averaged 21,000 viewers in the early morning timeslot that Imus is taking over, so it would be impossible for him not to improve the ratings, but if calling Katie Couric a rodent is a preview of things to come, it is only a matter of time until he loses this show too.
