Jon Stewart Compares Beck's Massa Interview to Geraldo Opening Al Capone's Vault

Stewart perfectly sums up the Beck/Massa fiasco

Last night on The Daily Show, Jon Stewart delivered what could be the defining commentary on the Glenn Beck/Eric Massa interview fiasco. Stewart said, “But the more Beck struggled the clearer it became that he was opening Al Capone’s vault, only to find some dog eared, well combed over, old men’s fitness magazines.” Check out the video.

After showing a clip of Beck desperately trying to get Massa to confirm his Obama corruption conspiracy theories, Stewart said, “But the more Beck struggled the clearer it became that he was opening Al Capone’s vault, only to find some dog eared, well combed over, old men’s fitness magazines. Yes, Glenn Beck said that this interview might change the direction of the nation, he never specified which direction.”

After Beck said, “America, I’m going to shoot straight with you. I think I have wasted your time. I have wasted an hour of your time and I apologize for that,” Stewart chimed in with, “It appears that Glenn Beck has come up with his new sign off phrase. His good night and good luck, every show he can now end with America, I think I’ve wasted an hour of your time, and I apologize for that. See you tomorrow.”

It seemed to be obvious to everyone in the world, except Glenn Beck that interviewing Massa for a full hour was a disaster waiting to happen. The interview itself was so absurd that the humor practically wrote itself for The Daily Show crew. The comparison of the interview to Geraldo opening Al Capone’s vault was spot on. Beck hyped and promised his audience so much from this interview, only to find that there was nothing really there. Massa knew Beck’s game, and he wasn’t going to play it. It wasn’t uncomfortable to watch. It was hysterical. It was a theater of the absurd. The Massa interview is something that will haunt Beck for the rest of his career.
