Fox News Goose Steps behind Nazi like Arizona Immigration Law
Fox News: Defending White Freedom the Nazi Way

For the past 10 days, Fox News has been full throatily endorsing the new immigration bill that was just signed yesterday in Arizona. Fox has been consistently pushing the idea that the AZ bill is the model for the nation. Here are some examples of the Goebbels like usage of propaganda by Fox News on this story.

Here is some video from April 15 of Fox News pushing the bill courtesy of Media Matters:

Brian Kilmeade introduced the segment on Fox and Friends by saying, “Arizona is close to having one of the toughest immigration enforcement laws in the United States, maybe in our history. The legislation would make it a crime to be in the country illegally. It’s the latest move to combat increasing violence at their border, so could this be used as a model for the rest of the nation, or does the bill go too far?” The network then brings in the man behind the bill state representative John Kavanagh to promote the bill. They never featured a guest in this segment who argued that the bill goes too far. This is typical Fox News practice where they asked a balanced question, but only put the conservative point of view on the air.

Today on Fox and Friends Saturday Media Matters captured a much more insidious piece of Fox News propaganda on their chryon.

As you can see the second part of the question has been dropped, so what is left is a loaded question about the AZ law being the model for America. Fox News has mastered the art of visual propaganda in their graphics and crawls. FNC knows that they are on screens all over hospitals, doctors’ offices, and public places. The chryon above gets the message across that this immigration bill should be the model for America without even having to say a word.

The broader point is that Fox News and the GOP try to label liberals, progressives, and Democrats as socialists all the while they endorse a bill bears a striking resemblance to the Nazis treatment of the Jews. The Nazis required the Jews to identify themselves, register, and carry papers. The Nazis required citizens to prove that they weren’t Jewish, much as the Arizona law requires Hispanics to prove that they are in the country legally. Misidentifications were common in Nazi Germany, just like they will be in Arizona, because each law relies/relied on stereotypes of identification. The Nazis looked at physical features such as nose size, while the Arizona law is going to be based on skin color and dress.

Fox News, the Republican Party, and the right wing fancy themselves as defenders of freedom, but the question that they never answer is whose freedom are they defending? The freedom that the right is defending is white freedom. Certainly all the legal members of the Hispanic community in Arizona will be having their freedoms violated, but those people aren’t white so they don’t matter. Any good fascist outfit needs a stellar propaganda wing to disseminate their message, and convince the people that their oppression is justified and acceptable. This is the role that the thinly disguised as news organization Fox News plays.

  1. In Japan, any police officer can ask anyone who looks foreign for their visa card at any time. Even if you have been a resident for 10 years, if you don’t blend in they have the right to ask to see your credentials. You have to carry a card with you at all times. I’m not saying its right, but I don’t think this law is as draconian as you make it sound.

  2. I have lived in AZ for 25 years, and there are two things that ring incredibly wrong with this law.

The first thing is simply the mean-spirit of the pols and their supporters behind it. These are the same folks who supported GWBs invasion of Iraq. I guess it’s ok if WE invade a sovereign nation of poor brown-skinned people but not the other way around, apparently.

The second thing is that a few years ago when the housing industry was booming, the illegals were helping build 1500 new homes a MONTH. there was no squawking about getting rid of them then, as they were providing lots and lots of cheap labor. However, once the economy turned sour, these Joe Arpaio and former GWB supporters just had to have a bogey man. Personally, I think it’s going to backfire. These folks will probably not only curse us as they leave, but will also put curses upon us as they leave.

  3. At the risk of going all Godwin, it seems to me that the ‘reasoning’ behind this law is very much the same as that behind the anti-Jewish laws in Germany. Essentially, society is in trouble, the economy sucks, politics are percieved as being out of control, ‘traditional values’ appear to be being trampled on. Along comes a politician who paints him/heself as an ‘average Joe’ and instead of actually offering SOLUTONS to these problems, offers somebody to blame. After all, it’s always easier to blame somebody else for your problems than it is to try to fix them, and in Arizona the easiest, most convienient group to blame are the suspected illegals.

Perhaps they should remember the words of someone they consider to be at least moderately authoritarian:

For I was hungry and you gave me nothing to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me nothing to drink, I was a stranger and you did not invite me in, I needed clothes and you did not clothe me, I was sick and in prison and you did not look after me.’
“They also will answer, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry or thirsty or a stranger or needing clothes or sick or in prison, and did not help you?’
“He will reply, ‘I tell you the truth, whatever you did not do for one of the least of these, you did not do for me.’

  4. @dani,

Really? More racist then South Africa? I doubt it. I think its egocentric to call a country you’ve never been to the most racist, especially since you have made no reference to any studies to back it up.

Odds are Japan is not the most racist, and America is not the least racist. Though if America is not, it is certainly not a bad goal to try and shoot for being the least racist.

  5. @Tantroo_McNally, I lived for years with Japanese people and they will tell you openly about the racism that exists in their country, especially as it relates to other Asian people. Only 1.6% of the Japanese population are foreign nationals. Japan has a strict immigration policy, and no civil rights legislation to prevent discrimination.

By the way, I think today’s South Africa would be greatly offended by your characterization of their nation based on their apartheid past. South Africa shed the chains of apartheid while Republicans are trying to move the US towards it.

  6. @Adam, People seem to forget that you have to produce your identification anytime a cop asks for it new law or not. if you have $50.00 in your pocket they can make you tell them where it came from. Black people live with this type of thing every day(and yes its wrong). But on the other hand I see no need myself to handcuff our police force.

All under reasonable suspicion. In fact they can legally ask for your ID whether they suspect you or not.

  7. This law is a terrible idea. Ask why now?

I think it was passed via Fox News and Republicans to stir up big trouble and controversy in our country.

To throw more road blocks and trouble at this President and other Dems before the Nov. elections.

If they can create more angry groups of people, all the better for them. This will bring out the Republican vote, while upsetting the Obama Hispanic voter if he does not do something.

Fox News and the Republican s*ck.

  8. Fox news is doing the right thing by reporting fairly about what is happening in AZ.The people crossing the border are breaking our laws.If we do not have laws to protect us from people invading our country then we have no country.Mexico’s problems are perpetuated when their people will not stand up to their 3rd world government.Coming here illegally does not make them a US citizen, nor does it give them entitlements to become one.

  9. It amazes me that enforcing a border is somehow = to nazi. Amazing. Most people are too stupid to understand the law, or to lazy to even read it. The law clearly states that if you have a drivers license, you are “presumed” to be innocent of violating our border laws.

The Obama clones are out in force trying to make it look “draconian” to simply enforce the law. It amazes me how people can be so incredibly stupid. I also find it interesting that these same people don’t consider it “draconian” to require ID to board a plane or even to cash a check.
If borders are so bad, why not open your own house to anybody who wants to move in? As usual, liberals endlessly preach for other people’s behaviour, but consider themselves exempt.
How about Mexico? According to Calderon, they ask for papers at their border. They also expel any people who cross their border without permission. Why are we different? You can’t own land in Mexico unless you are a citizen. They verify that all landowners are Mexican citizens.
    The whole thing is crazy.

  10. I suppose people will also thank god that we will add a massive block of kids into the education system that is slowly sinking, add masses of people into the healthcare system who wont be able to afford the healthcare, add the cost of bab’ys into the system that is already going broke with them having them.

The amount of taxes they will be paying will not cover what it costs us to give them amnesty. Everyone is so righteous about saying we should let them in, will they feel the same when the tax bill hits and hospitals continue to close?

I wonder, I am unemployed and am going out to start selling cocaine to feed my family. Do I get off the felony rap? Does anyone feel sorry for me and give me amnesty or are the same people here willing to just let me go serve my time? Does the word felony now mean you will give comfort and love? I bet you will knowing I will be living on your income.

BTW, Im not really going to sell drugs.

  11. Arizona is not making it a crime to be here illegally. FEDERAL LAW MAKES IT A CRIME! If something is illegal, it is a crime. PERIOD! Arizona is only trying to clean up after the Federal government took a dump on immigration enforcement. YOU LIBERAL LOLLIES NEED TO PULL YOUR HEADS OUT AND UNDERSTAND THAT THE UNITED STATES DO NOT OWE THE WORLD A DAMN THING! This is OUR Country, which means if you would like to be a citizen you have to do it through legal means established or GET THE F OUT! When did this great Country of ours become the happy sock of the world? Oh yeah, maybe it was when good and honest Patriots went to war to defend the drugged up hippies and died! Now the damn liberal wackjobs can’t see past the world’s ass cheeks they are kissing to see what a poor disheveled state they are leaving the country those Hero’s paid with their blood to protect and preserve!

  12. liberalssukdogbolls: “When did this great Country of ours become the happy sock of the world?”

There are many different viewpoints on how to best solve the problems with illegal immigration. What is not helpful in the debate are historical ignorance and a disrespect for how this country came to be “YOUR” country. Read the following quotes from the original stewards of this country, and you will answer your own question above. Maybe (but probably not) it will be akin to a much needed dunk of your head in a cold bucket of water:

“Where today are the Pequot? Where are the Narragansett, the Mohican, the Pokanoket, and many other once powerful tribes of our people? They have vanished before the avarice and the oppression of the White Man, as snow before a summer sun.

“Will we let ourselves be destroyed in our turn without a struggle, give up our homes, our country bequeathed to us by the Great Spirit, the graves of our dead and everything that is dear and sacred to us? I know you will cry with me, ‘Never! Never!'”
    …Tecumseh (Shawnee)

“We did not ask you white men to come here. The Great Spirit gave us this country as a home. You had yours. We did not interfere with you. The Great Spirit gave us plenty of land to live on, and buffalo, deer, antelope and other game. But you have come here, you are taking my land from me, you are killing off our game, so it is hard for us to live. Now, you tell us to work for a living, but the Great Spirit did not make us to work, but to live by hunting. You white men can work if you want to. We do not interfere with you, and again you say why do you not become civilized? We do not want your civilization! We would live as our fathers did, and their fathers before them.”
    …Crazy Horse – Sioux

When a white army battles Indians and wins, it is called a great victory, but if they lose it is called a massacre.
    …Chiksika, Shawnee

My friend, I do not blame you for this. Had I listened to you this trouble would not have happened to me. I was not hostile to the white man….All we wanted was peace and to be left alone…I came here with the agent (Lee) to talk with Big White Chief, but was not given a chance. They tried to confine me, I tried to escape, and a soldier ran his bayonet into me. I have spoken.
…Crazy Horse’s final words, Oglala Sioux

  13. Seriously? The tragedy of what happened to the native Americans wasn’t about immigration. It was about money. Just like this issue is about money. And this became MY country when I swore an oath to take up arms in defense of the constitution and to keep MY people free to do and say what they feel is needed. That includes the freedom to be absolutely retarded, which liberals seem to love exercising. A retarded health bill comes to mind, a retarded response to an oil spill comes to mind, a retarded people that voted for a retard with almost no experience and obvious socialistic tendencies just because he makes pretty speeches and they felt bad for the treatment of his ancestors comes to mind.
