Surprise…Sarah Palin Won’t Announce Her 2012 Candidacy on 9/11

It seems like every other week there is a new baseless rumor about when and where Sarah Palin will announce her 2012 presidential candidacy. The latest was that she would announce on 9/11 at an event in Alaska with Glenn Beck, but Palin took to her Facebook page to clarify that what is happening on 9/11 is just another Fox News on air talent cash grab.

You may remember that in the recent Vanity Fair piece on Palin, some bloggers were sent into an analytical frenzy trying to figure out what Glenn Beck’s appearance in Alaska on 9/11 meant. Rumors and unfounded speculation ran wild that this would be the day that Palin would make her 2012 plans known. Well, it turns out that Beck’s Alaska visit means absolutely nothing for 2012.

Palin took to her Facebook page today to urge her zombie minions to head to Ticketmaster and buy tickets for the big 9/11 event, “Glenn’s coming to the Last Frontier! I hope my fellow Alaskans (and anyone visiting from Outside) will join me this Saturday, September 11, 2010, at Anchorage’s Dena’ina Center at 8:00 p.m. Glenn Beck will be there – you won’t want to miss it. Tickets are available at Ticketmaster.com.”

Yep, it turns out that this is nothing more than another stop on Beck’s planned post 8-28 rally national tour. Anyone who believed that this was anything bigger was overeagar to say the least. Beck and Palin have appeared on stage and hit the road together before. Beck and Palin held a rally together this past March in Tulsa, OK, where the tickets ranged from $45-$100 and surprise, surprise they were sold by Ticketmaster.

Anyone who actually thought that there was more to this 9/11 appearance doesn’t understand both the grifting abilities of Beck and Palin and the methodology behind presidential candidate announcements. Palin is not going to announce on 9/11 or the other favored rumor Super Bowl Sunday, because those dates make no sense politically. September 11, 2010 is too early for a candidate like Palin who still is woefully lacking in organization and support staff. Plus, Palin is one of the few Republicans who can raise money, so she does not need to announce early. Here is a tip. When you start reading about Palin hiring campaign staff, and opening offices in places like Iowa and New Hampshire, then an announcement is close.

As I wrote in June about the Super Bowl Sunday rumor, “No presidential candidate, unless they want absolutely zero media coverage, would ever announce their candidacy on Super Bowl Sunday. This would be like announcing your candidacy on Christmas. Super Bowl Sunday has become a national holiday, and it would be a waste of time and resources for a candidate to announce that day. Plus, why would Palin announce in a state, which she has zero chance of carrying? The Reagan’s birthday thing sounds like a rumor made up by fan boys. Palin will announce, but look for it to be in a Red State, possibly at a big event like the Tea Party convention. The Reagan’s birthday rumor makes zero political sense.”

Since then we have learned more about Palin’s 2012 strategy. It appears that Sister Sarah is going to run a personality campaign where she portrays herself as the outsider insurgent Republican battling the establishment’s candidate, Mitt Romney. In order for Palin to make the maximum splash she will probably announce late, and jump into the race with energy and charisma. Plus, announcing early does not fit Palin’s personality. She is not the kind of person who seems willing to spend 24 months on the campaign trail. If Sarah Palin has proven one thing it is that she is unfocused and lazy. Palin will probably spend the next year making money, and then jump into the 2012 race in the summer/fall of 2011 at the latest.
