Poor Glenn Beck can’t stop being bested by Comedy Central’s Stephen Colbert and Jon Stewart. First, Colbert and Stewart blew Beck’s rally on the National Mall out of the water with the Rally to Restore Sanity, and now they are beating Beck in Time magazine’s reader poll for 2010 person of the year.
Time is doing something a little different this year to drum up interest in their person of the year award. For 2010, they are allowing readers to vote in an online poll for who they think should be the person of the year. The editors aren’t obligated to select the poll winner, but it does give the readers a voice, and make things a little more fun for everyone. Well, almost everyone except Glenn Beck.

On his radio show today, Glenn was very upset that he was in last place in the poll. At the time, Beck had an 18 rating, which was dead last, so of course, Beck did two things. He and his crew told his listeners to go Time’s site and vote for Beck, and he blamed George Soros for his poor showing.

The radio campaign worked. Beck has moved from last to 4th now, with 12,525 votes and a rating of 54. However Beck still trails Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert, who have the highest rating in the poll of 84, and the second highest vote total of 13,763. The second highest rated and total votes leader is Julian Assange of Wikileaks. Glenn Beck apparently doesn’t consider Stewart and Colbert deserving because he said that either the Tea Party or Sarah Palin should be the person of the year.
I say that we can’t stand by and let Glenn Beck and his listeners defeat reasonableness. I urge everyone reading this story to go to and cast your ballot in the Time poll for reasonableness and sanity. Vote for Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert. Let’s show Glenn Beck that he isn’t the only one who can rig a person of the year poll on the Internet. Can you imagine the message it would send if Stewart and Colbert were voted the person of the year.
Despite the fact that it’s really weird that two people can be voted the person of the year, it would be a great platform for Jon Stewart to keep calling for reasonableness and sanity in our political dialogue. Even if Stewart and Colbert only win the Internet poll it is still a victory for sanity, and defeat for the anger and fear personified by Beck. The rally may be over but the drive for sanity marches on.
