Rick Santorum and Newt Gingrich responded to Obama killing their phony war on religion by going on a full on orgy of Obama Derangement.

Santorum said, “This is a President trying to impose his values, rolling over religious liberty, rolling over freedom of conscience and rolling over freedom of speech. This is a clear indication that the President has war on a freedom, not just the freedom of conscience, but the war on freedom because he thinks he knows best about what people should have and shouldn’t have, and that should outrage people of faith and no faith.â€
At CPAC, Newt Gingrich claimed that Obama isn’t waging war on the Catholic Church now, but look out if he gets reelected, “This is a man who is deeply committed — if he wins reelection, he will wage war on the Catholic Church the morning after he is reelected.â€
The problem is that what Gingrich and Santorum claimed the president would do is exact opposite of what Obama really said, “Now, as we move to implement this rule, however, we’ve been mindful that there’s another principle at stake here –- and that’s the principle of religious liberty, an inalienable right that is enshrined in our Constitution. As a citizen and as a Christian, I cherish this right….With today’s announcement, we’ve done that. Religious liberty will be protected, and a law that requires free preventive care will not discriminate against women.â€
Obama made his statement hours before Newt Gingrich and Rick Santorum spoke today, but both candidates chose to pretend that the president said nothing about protecting religious liberty.

It doesn’t matter what the real President Obama actually says or does, in the minds of the Obamaly Deranged an alternate universe exists where the America’s first Muslim/Marxist/Socialist president is hard at work waging on Christianity and all personal freedoms.
It was wise for the president to stop talking to Republican politicians like they are sane rational human beings with whom he shares a common reality. Facts can’t penetrate the Obama Derangement bubble. What the president said today was the exact opposite of what Santorum and Gingrich claimed his position was, but none of this matters to those who hatred of this president have pushed them into ODS.
Santorum and Gingrich were well aware of what the president said, but they also know that they can’t acknowledge this reality without losing the support of Republican primary voters.
The real reason why the Republican Party is poised to lose the 2012 has little to do with the candidates. The root of the problem is that the GOP’s base is demanding that their candidates come dancing off the crazy cliff with them.
Republican primary voters are forcing their candidates to move so far to the right that they are making themselves unelectable.
Conservative primary voters are anti-Obama junkies who need their Obama Derangement fix, and they are going to support the candidate who gives them the best high. The majority of GOP primary voters aren’t trying to win an election. They are feeding an addiction to hate.
Rick Santorum, Newt Gingrich, and Mitt Romney are the enablers. But for the Republican Party, Obama Derangement Syndrome is a fatal disease for which there can be no cure.
