Watch Live: Unite Against The War On Women Protests

If there is no War on Women, why are there 55 rallies against the war on women today? Today is the day we make history by marching for women’s rights across the country because enough is enough!

Republicans say there is no war on women, even as they criminalize miscarriages and make birth control an issue of presumed sexual promiscuity instead of a health issue. They’ve ham-fisted our uteri, our dignity and our rights and it has to stop.

Unite Women details their mission,

“Help defend women’s rights and pursuit of equality. Join Americans all across the United States on April 28th, 2012, as we come together as one to tell members of Congress in Washington DC and legislators in all 50 states, “Enough is enough!” UniteWomen.org strongly supports diversity and welcomes men and women of all ages without regard to their race, color, creed, political affiliation, disability, religious or spiritual beliefs, sexual orientation, gender identity, education or income level, marital status, employment status, or immigrant status. Everyone is invited to join, plan, and rally as we unite to demand that every person be granted equal opportunities, equal rights, and equal representation.”

Protesters are chanting, “What do we want? Human rights! When do we want? Now!” and carrying signs reading, “Keep your laws away from my uterus!” “I Have a Heartbeat” and “There Are No Jobs in My Uterus!” Can you say Suffragette City?

And then there’s some women who aren’t afraid to own it all, courtesy of

In DC Former Governor Jennifer Granholm (D-MI) of Current TV gave a keynote speech in DC at 1PM, and video will be provided as soon as it’s available.

Here’s a picture from the NYC rally, posted by Triangle Coalition on Twitter:

WOW_NC tweeted, “One sign reads: Planned Parenthood has done more to prevent abortions than any church! I agree.”

Speaking of that “non-existent” war on women, aren’t you glad this guy didn’t make it into the White House in 2008? Doddering John McCain is here to tell us all that our rights aren’t being taken away- it’s all in our heads. There is NO war on women, in spite of that mountain of Republican legislation to the contrary. Gosh, you gotta love Republicans. They think we’re so dumb that they can just keep telling us how things are and we’ll buy it.

Watch here if you’re not already riled up enough to drag every single one of your friends — and your enemies too– to your polling place this November:

  1. The War on Women is just part of the Republican War on the Poor and Minorities. This is their practice for rolling back all civil rights. Remember, they may treat us as a minority, but we are a majority and most of us do not obey husbands. I have MS and can’t be out marching, but I am there in spirit. SISTERHOOD FOREVER!

  2. Wish I could be there but in there in spirit shame on the media for ignoring these rallies we will make them regret it! Solidarity forever!

  3. Totally agree with you… and we are the voting majority. We also tend to vote liberal, so women, minorities and the poor tend to not illicit GOP power. Once our rights are abolished, the GOP can have a carte blanche.

  4. The GOP’s war on women has gone on long enough and we are sick-to-death of it. This new women’s movement is just starting and will carry on through the general election. How any woman or man could vote for even one Republican is beyond comprehension.

  5. I see Tennessee just criminalized miscarriages and are trying tpo do away with b irth control. How did we get into the 1st century again?

  6. Thank you, my info came from an earlier article that said it did. I am glad it doesn’t, but the bill is still unnecessary.

  7. Firstly, thank all you Women and Men who got out and active with this Protest Day. We are in Solidarity…. And while I agree that this is Truly a War On Women, in conjunction with the other comments – this has been a long planned out attack following the past two years – and starting with the Bush Family – and the bottom line is also this: The Republican Attackers sure as he.. like our Women Tax Dollars, don’t they? WEll – guess what? Washington needs a cut in pay like the the one they delivered to the People of this Nation. They need to be put on a 90-Day Performance Review – pay scale based. Particuclarly the Super (juvenile!) Committee Failure – We do not forget Washington – and we WILL see you at the POlls in November!!!

  8. Once again, conservative white males are trying to tell women they’re crazy, or imagining things, or don’t know what they’re talking about. I guess they haven’t figured out that we’re not listening anymore!

  9. This attack has been in the works for a lot longer than the Bush administration. That’s why they have come on so strong, they’ve been working up to it for decades.
