The Embodiment of Fail: Right Martyrs Heckler Who Got Owned By Obama

The right continues their hero worship of The Daily Caller reporter who interrupted the president today, but they neglect to mention that he got owned by Obama.

Here is the video from C-SPAN:

THE PRESIDENT: Effective immediately, the Department of Homeland Security is taking steps to lift the shadow of deportation from these young people. Over the next few months, eligible individuals who do not present a risk to national security or public safety will be able to request temporary relief from deportation proceedings and apply for work authorization.

Now, let’s be clear – this is not amnesty, this is not immunity. This is not a path to citizenship. It’s not a permanent fix. This is a temporary stopgap measure that lets us focus our resources wisely while giving a degree of relief and hope to talented, driven, patriotic young people. It is –

Q (Inaudible.)

THE PRESIDENT: – the right thing to do.

MUNRO: What about American workers who are unemployed while you employ foreigners?
THE PRESIDENT: Excuse me, sir. It’s not time for questions, sir.

MUNRO: No, you have to take questions.

THE PRESIDENT: Not while I’m speaking.

Precisely because this is temporary, Congress needs to act. There is still time for Congress to pass the DREAM Act this year, because these kids deserve to plan their lives in more than two-year increments. And we still need to pass comprehensive immigration reform that addresses our 21st century economic and security needs – reform that gives our farmers and ranchers certainty about the workers that they’ll have. Reform that gives our science and technology sectors certainty that the young people who come here to earn their PhDs won’t be forced to leave and start new businesses in other countries. Reform that continues to improve our border security, and lives up to our heritage as a nation of laws and a nation of immigrants.

Just six years ago, the unlikely trio of John McCain, Ted Kennedy and President Bush came together to champion this kind of reform. And I was proud to join 23 Republicans in voting for it. So there’s no reason that we can’t come together and get this done.

And as long as I’m President, I will not give up on this issue, not only because it’s the right thing to do for our economy – and CEOs agree with me – not just because it’s the right thing to do for our security, but because it’s the right thing to do, period. And I believe that, eventually, enough Republicans in Congress will come around to that view as well.

And I believe that it’s the right thing to do because I’ve been with groups of young people who work so hard and speak with so much heart about what’s best in America, even though I knew some of them must have lived under the fear of deportation. I know some have come forward, at great risks to themselves and their futures, in hopes it would spur the rest of us to live up to our own most cherished values. And I’ve seen the stories of Americans in schools and churches and communities across the country who stood up for them and rallied behind them, and pushed us to give them a better path and freedom from fear -because we are a better nation than one that expels innocent young kids.

And the answer to your question, sir – and the next time I’d prefer you let me finish my statements before you ask that question – is this is the right thing to do for the American people –

MUNRO: (Inaudible.)

THE PRESIDENT: I didn’t ask for an argument. I’m answering your question.

MUNRO: I’d like to –

The Daily Caller decided to get themselves a little publicity today by pulling a Joe Wilson and heckling the President of the United States. The heckler gets totally owned, but right still martyrs him, because he, “asked the tough questions, and stood up to Obama.”

Munro claimed that he wasn’t trying to heckle the president, “I always go to the White House prepared with questions for our president. I timed the question believing the president was closing his remarks, because naturally I have no intention of interrupting the President of the United States. I know he rarely takes questions before walking away from the podium. When I asked the question as he finished his speech, he turned his back on the many reporters, and walked away while I and at least one other reporter asked questions.”

His publisher, Neil Patel also stated that there was no disrespect intended, “The President today announced a very controversial policy and does not want to answer tough questions about it. Neil Munro is a veteran Washington reporter who today tried his best to time his question to be first as the President was wrapping up his remarks. He in no way meant to heckle the President of the United States.”

The problem with The Daily Caller’s excuse is that their reporter interrupts the president at 4:38 of his nine minute long remarks. Are we really supposed to believe that Mr. Munro simply guessed wrong when the president gave no indication that he was finished?

It looks like The Daily Caller might pay a heavy price for their latest stunt. After Munro and The Daily Caller were rebuked by the White House Correspondents Association, there is increasing chatter that they may lose their status as a member of the White House press pool.

None of this has stopped the right from martyring Munro, but the truth is that the reporter didn’t best the president during the exchange. His question was partisan and dense. It was easily swatted away by Obama. Even worse, Munro was embarrassed in front of the whole world as the president admonished Munro like an unruly school child who wasn’t paying attention in class.

The way the right is treating Neil Munro highlights one of the great contradictions in right wing attitudes towards the president. They can’t decide whether Obama is an evil and oppressive socialist dictator, or incompetent man who isn’t up to the job of being president. A president can’t be both incompetent and an oppressor, so which is it?

The fact of the matter is The Daily Caller got their publicity, but Munro got owned by Obama. Consider today a double loss for the right. The president has seized the narrative with his immigration announcement, and he showed the world that he will not tolerate the right’s disrespect of the office that he holds.

When the best thing the right can point to is that a reporter from a conservative website got schooled by Obama, it’s been a really bad day.

As all this is going on, Mitt Romney is sitting on a bus somewhere wondering why no one is paying attention to him.

Yes, indeed. It was a very good day to be the President of the United States, Barack Obama.

  1. ……….thought the president was finished speaking… arse. What a lame excuse. Yeah, the DC was doubling down on this at first, til they started seeing the backlash, now they’re backpedaling. Obama obliterated him and it was awesome to behold.

    That’s my president. /beam

  2. Munro should have been at the Romney presser today. No questions taken. Would he heckle Romney? Of course not. He doesn’t have the cojones to heckle a white Republican.

My tweet on Tucker Carlson’s wimpy attempt to defend Munro:

#NeilMunro of Daily Caller playing thug in Rose Garden like spoiled child + daddy #TuckerCarlson can’t discipline. #FAIL #clownshow

  3. The smart thing for the reporter to have done was let the President finish speaking;it was a legitimate question.

But he became a fool today.

  4. Tucker is the typical grinning idiot who sent his troll, Munro, out to wreak havoc. The funny part is Tucker is getting spanked by FAUX. When the lying non-news lunatic fringe station slaps you around . . . (Shep Smith & Chris Wallace) you know you effed up. Morning Joe (eewww) even had to smack The Caller down about Trayvon Martin.

  5. From the great words of Gordon Lightfoot, “I feel like I’m winnin’ when I’m losing again”. How can repubs’ think they got the best of Obama??? They are deluded And not very smart. They make themselves look stupid everyday.

  6. I just sent an email to the Daily Caller pointing out that their reporter’s behavior is showing a lack of esteem for the Presidency of the United States. How can we teach our citizens, children, and the rest of the world to respect the Presidency if the press, and some Congressmen, disrespect the President in public? If we don’t esteem the Presidency, why should the rest of the world? I am getting increasingly angry. Don’t these people realize they are destroying the Presidency? Not, just this person, but the office?

  7. Bullies for Romney recognizes Neil Munro’s belligerent disrespect for the president as great respect for our fine organization, the Republican Party, and for the candidate which we represent, Mitt Romney. We’re pleased to also recognize Tucker Carlson as another belligerent, disrespectful Bully and we respect the pride Tucker has in Neil for being such a flaming twat for all the world to witness. Tucker has taught him well! God Bless Amercia!

  8. How sad for Munro he used to be respectable. He looked like he was leaving a bar today his tie loose just a mess. I’m afraid they need to revoke his pass till he can apologize and pass sobriety test before every event.

  9. Just read CNN’s piece about this incident, and the lack of civility in our nation today. The lack of respect and common courtesy to others is becoming a thing of the past, and we can never hope to be a great nation when our regard for proper decorum and manners is so lacking. Several of the comments even were accusing Obama of not being able to handle the interruption without anger. Maybe it is time to bring Miss Manners back! Lots of folks need the advice–even many who should know better.

  10. I just left the “Addicting Info” blog where some right-winger left a comment to a post about Munro that said “Mr. Transparency Obummer needed to be interrupted because he never allows questions to be asked at his pressers and it’s because the answers aren’t programmed into his teleprompter.” My response to him was “Do you watch Fox News?”

It’s difficult dealing with people like this. They believe only what they see on Fox News and read on blogs like the Daily Caller, and they have no use for the truth. They totally ignored the 2010 HCR meeting the president had with members of the republican caucus where he OWNED every one of them to the point that they regretted showing up to the event. By continually harping on PBO’s use of TelePrompters, they allow themselves to deny that he is highly intelligent, articulate, and that he knows the ins and outs of every policy on which he speaks. FL Michelle Obama stated that it is not okay with the president to be briefed by his staff on the general points of policies. He reads them for himself. I guess many on the right take his knowledge of policies as a sign of his being arrogant, but it’s not. It’s just the hallmark of someone who takes his job seriously and knows that whatever he does will have a direct impact on the lives of millions of us.

  11. All I can say is KUDOS to all the great comments so far by fair-minded citizens. I am proud of you all!

  12. Love the way the English language adapts. Martyring someone used to involve torture and death, not lionizing someone.

  13. So there he is, standing in the audience with his hands in his pockets, casual as you please – a spectator surrounded by hard-working professional journalists all busy taking notes. And he wasn’t there to heckle? Puh-leeze.

Perhaps in his next term we’ll see the real Barack Obama taking care of business on the spot instead of keeping it for gala dinner addresses.

  14. Serves the guy right, having the verbal smack-down laid in by the President. Let the man speak, you disrespectful sycophant.

  15. The 2 pictures I have seen of him at the event, his hands are in his pockets. All the other reporters around him are taking notes. Anyone see him taking notes, or was he there just to heckle the POTUS?

  16. There’s such a thing as free speech, but it should always be accompanied by a sense of responsibility and respect for others, particularly the Commander In Chief. By those measures, Munro failed miserably and the right is compounding the offensiveness of this disrespect by making this fool out to be a hero. I know that people in other countries are either shaking their collective heads in disbelief that rudeness and disrespect are lauded in this country even for our leaders, or laughing their heads off at the audacity of some of us to brag about our “exceptionalism.”

  17. Thank you. This was about Disrespect. #1 The Black Man. #2
    Disrespect this man as president.

It Shows what a large part what/how people of this nation this of this man.

Please look @ the history of This Nation America.

The Heart Of America can be changed only by God.

  18. “What about American workers who are unemployed while you employ foreigners?”

Who is this YOU he is talking about? Surely not folks like Good Conservative and Not Black Bob Corker who got in hot water because his company was hiring illegals? It doesn’t ruin the country if a Good Conservative breaks the law, does it?

  19. I find it very interesting that Politicus characterized Rocky Anderson as ‘racist’ for using the word ‘slavish’ about a Black fellow member of Congress; but feels free to use the word ‘owned’ in reference to the subject of remarks by the President. It’s a puzzler…………..

  20. Jo Hargis: mine too! The Right is always talking about the Chicago Way/style, blah, blah…They’re lucky our President didn’t show this knucklehead some real Chicago style verbal beat down…But, POTUS is not just cool, intelligent, compassionate…he’s civilized. Many on the Right have just lost it completely…and this country is in peril because of it.

All the best to all of my Countrymen and women…Happy Father’s Day!

  21. Haters are gonna hate. If this mook is allowed back at any more conferences, it will be after he gets paper trained. If the mouthbreathers wanna make a martyr of this clown, let ’em. But that noteriety will not extend outside that red bubble they all live in. Outside of it, he’ll be seen as a clown and a shill for Bowtie Tuck.

  22. Funny thing, when you asked (and friends asked and got escorted out by the Secret Service) Bush Jr. that when 15 of the 19 hijackers were from Saudi Arabia, two were from UAE, one was from Egypt and one was from Lebanon, and he felt that he had to attack both Iraq and Afghanistan, when Al Qaeda came from those four countries, that we didn’t attack the four countries? Because the videos we seen with bin Laden with an AK-47 and the mujaheddin training was during the war with the Soviet Union, and this was during Q&A? That is wrong?…but the Daily Caller Reporter was proper?

  23. POTUS needs a designated Secret Service agent as “Bouncer”, to ‘escort’ asses like that from the premises.

After all, Brock Lesnar would want too much money for the job….
