Mitt Romney Hides His History of Profiting from Abortion

In every society there are certain subjects that serve to bifurcate the public and, more times than not, religious dogma is the culprit. Americans have fought over a woman’s right to choose her own reproductive health since the Supreme Court’s Roe v. Wade ruling, and to this day abortion, although a legal medical procedure, is opposed vehemently by evangelical Christians and Catholics using every tactic under the Sun to subvert the law and ban abortion. In fact, if there is one unifying factor all Christian denominations share, it is their opposition to abortion and one can surmise that all Christians would be repulsed at the thought of a Christian profiting from, or using taxpayer dollars for, abortion services. As it turns out, there is a Republican who claims to be a Christian at the same time he profited from and allowed taxpayer dollars to pay for abortions and it exposes a world of lies and deceit Americans have come to expect from Willard Mitt Romney.

Willard Romney is a pathological and deceitful liar who epitomizes mendacity, and besides lying for political expediency, he lies to enrich himself and conceal his business dealings to avoid paying taxes. Recent revelations expose a world of Romney’s lies and his false assertion that he is a Christian. For the record, Willard Romney is a Mormon and not anything remotely associated with the Christian religion, and his relationship with Bain Capital’s investment in, and profit from, a company that disposed of fetuses from aborted pregnancies is just more proof of his anti-Christian beliefs that, regardless the source, making money supersedes morality and his alleged Christianity.

In the Romney Massachusetts health law, abortions are covered as per a 1981 Massachusetts Supreme Court decision  that says the cost of abortions must be included in publicly subsidized plans, and the state-subsidized plans in Massachusetts does too, and it includes coverage for Massachusetts residents enrolled in Medicaid, a state and federal program. If Romney were a fierce anti-abortion proponent like he now claims, he could have taken the same step President Obama did and sign an executive order prohibiting taxpayer dollars from covering abortions in line with the Federal Hyde Amendment. However, he did not and there is a good reason; he profited from a company that disposed of aborted fetuses according to government documents. This issue exposes more lies from Romney about when he left Bain Capital as well as his alleged Christianity that should serve as a warning to the Christian community that regardless what Willard claims, his sole purpose in life is achieving wealth and power.

In 1999, Romney was part of Bain Capital that invested $75 million in Stericycle, a medical-waste disposal firm that anti-abortion groups attacked for disposing aborted fetuses collected from family planning clinics. Now, Romney claims he left Bain in February 1999 to use federal money to bail out the Olympics, but public records tell an entirely different story. According to SEC filings, assorted Bain-related entities were part of the deal to purchase Stericycle, including Bain Capital (BCI), Bain Capital Partners VI (BCP VI), Sankaty High Yield Asset Investors, and Brookside Capital Investors (a Bain offshoot), and it notes that Romney was the “sole shareholder, Chairman, Chief Executive Officer and President of BCI, BCP VI Inc., Brookside Inc. and Sankaty Ltd.”  In 1999, Bain and Romney claimed his departure from Bain was not a resignation and far from absolute, and the Boston Herald reported that “Romney said he will stay on as a part-timer with Bain, providing input on investment and key personnel decisions,” and a Bain press release issued on July 19, 1999, noted that Romney was “currently on a part-time leave of absence,” and quoted Romney speaking for Bain Capital. In 2001 and 2002, Romney filed state disclosure forms in Massachusetts noting he was the 100 percent owner of Bain Capital NY, Inc.—a Bain outfit incorporated in Delaware on April 13, 1999, two months after Romney’s supposed retirement from the firm, and a May 2001 SEC filing identified Romney as “a member of the Management Committee” of two Bain entities. In 2007, the Washington Post reported that a Bain lawyer said Romney took a “leave of absence” to save the Olympics and retained sole ownership of the firm for two more years.

In another SEC filing, Stericycle named Romney as an individual who holds “voting and dispositive power” with respect to the stock owned by Bain. It begs the question; if Romney had fully retired from Bain Capital, why was he the only Bain executive named as controlling this large amount of Stericycle stock that earned them $49.5 million by the time they sold the stock in 2004? Bain issued a statement that “Mitt Romney retired from Bain Capital in February 1999. He has had no involvement in the management or investment activities of Bain Capital, or with any of its portfolio companies since that time,” but a document Romney signed related to the Stericycle deal identified him as a participant in that particular deal and the person in charge of several Bain entities. The lies associating Romney with his alleged retirement from Bain or Stericycle notwithstanding, he did profit from a company that disposed of aborted fetuses and it proves that regardless his anti-abortion position in 2012, his greed and desire to acquire wealth supplant his alleged pro-life stance or adherence to the Christian faith and it should inform the Christian community that Romney will lie, cheat, and deceive them to garner their support to win in November.

There are so many Romney and Bain lies within this one episode that it becomes nearly impossible to believe anything Willard says. It is not flip-flopping, memory lapses, or confusion on Willard’s part, it is pure unadulterated lying to cover his business dealings and the indisputable fact that he profited from abortions, and Americans, especially Christian Americans, should shudder at the prospect of a Romney presidency and to what lengths he will go to achieve power and wealth that seems to be his only goal in life.

Despite what many pro-life groups contend, there are very few, if any, people who are pro-abortion. There are millions of Americans who are pro-choice and believe abortion is a woman’s personal healthcare decision and that is the real issue regarding abortion rights. However, one is hard-pressed to imagine any respectable human being who would seek out ways to profit from abortion and especially not one who claims to be a Christian. However, Romney is not a Christian and his investment and profit-taking from abortions define him as a greedy wealthy elitist who will use any means to acquire wealth and power to gain the presidency and fulfill long-standing prophecy to install a Mormon in the White House. Romney is also a rank hypocrite for assailing the President’s healthcare law as something immoral when President Obama assured the American people that no federal taxpayer dollars would ever be used to fund abortion services. Romney did not prohibit abortion coverage in Massachusetts’s universal healthcare law and now the American people know why; he profited from investments in Stericycle that anti-abortion groups assail as being implicitly connected to family planning clinics that perform abortions Christians oppose as part of their pro-life stance.

There is a reason Willard Mitt Romney remains elusive and secretive about his finances, and it appears it is because he knows if the American people knew the truth about how he earned his fortune and how he avoids paying taxes, they would avoid him like the plague on America he really is. As the campaign slogs forward, Romney runs from his record as governor of Massachusetts and now, his time at Bain Capital where he outsourced Americans’ jobs, shuttered companies after leveraging them with crushing debt, and earned nearly $50 million dollars disposing of aborted fetuses. He also lied about his alleged departure from Bain Capital and one can only surmise there is more Willard is concealing from the American people he hopes will entrust with the presidency.

Romney’s problems are more than just his greed, hiding money in offshore accounts, or when he left Bain Capital, and he owes the American people some answers about his hypocrisy and filthy lies about being a Christian when he is the antithesis of a follower of Christ. The Christian community should demand answers from Romney about his real agenda as a Mormon and why he claims to be a Christian that opposes abortion when he profited from a company that disposed of aborted fetuses and allowed taxpayer money to fund abortions. One thing is certain; Romney is a slimy pathological liar and is not qualified to be president for myriad reasons, but most of all, for lying about his religious affiliation. Let’s face it, a man who lies about his religion for political expediency will lie about anything including his tenure as head of Bain Capital, his pro-life stance, and especially why he wants to be president, and when Americans finally comprehend his true motive for seeking the presidency, his lies, deceit, and hypocrisy will make perfect sense and one truly hopes it will not come too late because the fate of the nation depends on it.
