On Fox and Friends Steve Doocy tried to rally the anti-gay, but pro-chicken troops by begging them to fight against the left’s intolerance towards Chick-fil-A.

Doocy said, “Remember, it wasn’t just supporting Dan Cathy for his Christian values…We’ve got free stuff for breakfast today. People not only supporting Chick-Fil-A’s Christian values, and they are closed on Sundays. But also just the CEO’s right to say what he thinks. You know, a lot of people wound up going. I was reading in the New York Post today (also owned by Rupert Murdoch) about how a lot of people went over to New Jersey to go to Chick-fil-A, and it wasn’t to support the family values thing, and it wasn’t to support the family values thing, but to support his right to say something, because so many on the left are so intolerant. You gotta be able to say in this country what you think without being punished.”

Fox News, with their Chick-fil-A prominently product placed in view of the camera, is calling the left intolerant while supporting a company that is advocating for discrimination against gays. Fox was arguing that the left is intolerant for wanting equal treatment for all.

Doocy’s comments were a both a groveling plea and an attempt to gain support for Chick-fil-A by moving the conversation away from conservative bigotry towards gays.

This is the third different storyline that Fox News has tried in order to save Chick-fil-A. Just yesterday, Chick-fil-A was a First Amendment issue. On Monday, the boycott was un-American. What can be taken from this shift in the Fox News/Chick-fil-A strategy is that nothing is working. The Chick-fil-A brand has been seriously damaged, and continues to harm itself more with by allying with Fox News.

It is never ever a good idea for any business to align themselves closely with partisan politics. In Chick-fil-A’s case it is even worse because more Americans support gay marriage than oppose it. Chick-fil-A is becoming a martyr in Republican circles, but by a margin of 51%-40% Independents support gay marriage. According to Pew, the support for gay marriage has even risen 5 points among Republicans.

Chick-fil-A’s alliance with Fox News reeks of a desperate company resorting to even more desperate measures. As people continue not to eat at Chick-fil-A, the pleas from Fox News will continue to grow more urgent.

If only the right had as much passion for Mitt Romney as they do Chick-fil-A, maybe they wouldn’t have to distract themselves with gay hating chicken.
