Harry Reid Wins Again as RNC Chairman Calls Him a Dirty Liar

RNC Chairman Reince Priebus couldn’t resist throwing more gasoline on to the Romney tax returns fire by calling Harry Reid a dirty liar.

Here is the transcript from ABC’s This Week:

STEPHANOPOULOS: Let’s get a response right away to what you just heard from the congresswoman.

PRIEBUS: Do we want to continue down the direction of unemployment above 8 percent for countless months, a president that hasn’t lived the mission, hasn’t fulfilled the promises. People aren’t better off today than they were three or four years ago. Do we want to continue in that direction? Heck no.

And as far as Harry Reid is concerned, listen, I know you might want to go down that road, I’m not going to respond to a dirty liar who hasn’t filed a single page of tax returns himself. Complains about people with money but lives in the Ritz Carlton here down the street. So if that’s on the agenda, I’m not going to go there. This is just a made-up issue. And the fact that we’re going to spend any time talking about it is ridiculous.

STEPHANOPOULOS: You say you are not going to respond, but you just called him a dirty liar. You stand by that, you think Harry Reid is a dirty liar?

PRIEBUS: I just said it.

Republicans like RNC Chairman Reince Priebus are attempting to change the subject by getting people to ask the wrong question. The question isn’t is Harry Reid lying. What people should be asking themselves is, why hasn’t Mitt Romney released his tax returns? Harry Reid would never be able to accuse Romney of not paying taxes if the Republican nominee released his tax returns.

Republicans don’t want to discuss Romney’s tax returns, so they talk about Harry Reid instead. What they aren’t getting is that when they talk about Reid, they are also talking about Mitt Romney’s tax returns.

By calling Harry Reid a dirty liar, Reince Priebus just threw more gasoline on to the fire. Romney and his party can’t avoid this question, and it is not going to go away until Romney releases his tax returns.

Every time you get suckered in to debating whether or not Harry Reid is telling the truth, you are playing the Republicans’ game. This isn’t about Harry Reid. It is all about Romney’s refusal to release his tax returns.

Reince Priebus has zero evidence that Harry Reid isn’t telling the truth. If Priebus wants to prove Reid wrong, then tell Mitt Romney to release his tax returns. If Democrats are wrong, why hasn’t Romney released the proof that there is nothing in his tax returns? An innocent person does not hide the evidence that could exonerate them.

Every time Reid’s statements make Republicans talk about Romney’s tax returns, he wins. Harry Reid is driving the narrative of this campaign, and as long as Republicans keep playing into it, Democrats will continue to benefit.

  1. Since Reince knows what’s in Mitt’s returns, then he should tell us. Otherwise, how does he know Harry’s lying?

  2. Our rat that would be president is one nauseating rodent. Like it or not the drums are still beating crying out to see to returns. How large was his refunded tax check? How little is his tax percentage compared to the sinking middle class?
No I think we will forget to keep the heat on this sewer rat….. the Willard.

  3. Romney refused to release his tax records when he ran for Governor of Massachusetts AND when he ran for Senator from Massachusetts. So his “non-disclosure” is nothing new. What is new is that this time we will keep the pressure on and we won’t shut up until and unless Mitt puts up.

  4. I think all the returns will show is how easy it is for the wealthy to shelter income and avoid normal taxes, it is most likely all legal, but it will show how unfair it is to the little guy. It will show the income and tax disparity.

It will not paint a pretty picture.

I also hope his Mormon church tithing gets talked about……such as where does all that Mormon church money go? what does it get spent on? what are the church’s intentions world wide? Is it their goal to rule the world? The Mormon church is heavily involved in business ownership, should they be allowed church tax breaks?

  5. Remember, just trust him OK? In the ultimate chutzpah (or chootspah) the fact that he would criticize his gubernatorial opponent about her husband’s tax returns when he didn’t release his is beyond belief. That’s why he doesn’t think he has to release them. He is basically crossing his arms over his chest and saying “you can’t make me” and has no reason to expect any pushback. It will be interesting to see how far the press is willing to go or will they fold?

  6. I think Harry Reid is smart enough to wait until the very last minute (perhaps even after Romney has been formally nominated), and then release a bunch of scorching, electrifying, damning documents that will not only upstage MItt and his carnival show, but prove him both a liar and a thief. I don’t think Harry Reid got this far in life by merely “makin’ stuff up”.

  7. Not to mention that this kind of behavior by Romney of not releasing his tax returns and not providing any details about how he will balance the federal budget is one of the hallmarks of a totalitarian leader.

  8. Hey Willard…

    Prove it…

Release your complete returns back to 1998…

    Key word being “Complete”…

So far we have one partial year…

Us People are not that stupid !

Tell that to Ann, will ya.

  9. SInce he did not release all the paperwork for the year he did release and there are HUGE questions — like how can he have so MUCH in his IRA, there may be ethical lapses and things that skirt the legal boundary. FOF instance — he may have shares in his son’s Ponzi Scheme company OR — he bought two thousand shares of BAIN at .01 a share — and within months the company may then have put a value of $100 a share — since he’s the CEO if the IRS took a close look they might find it illegal — since as CEO HE KNEW EXACTLY what it would be worth.

  10. Yay, Reince, keep this in the headlines and on primetime so the citizens of the USA learn very clearly that Mitt Romney is holding back his returns.

Calling Reid a ‘liar’ now allows the Democrats to use that well-deserved epithet agains Romney — the truth is that it is HE who is the liar about everything worthy of our attention.

  11. One thing to keep in mind, is that Harry Reid is one of the highest rnking members of the Mormon church, so he might just have it on good authority, from another Higher up, who knows mittens, just a thought…

  12. Mr Romney cannot release his returns because then everyone will learn HOW TO NOT PAY THEIR FAIR SHARE OF TAX’S, and we all know that is the privilege of the wealthy, NOT TAXPAYERS. Republicraps will NOT confirm him as their nominee, they will nominate “fat man”, AND HE WILL LOSE ALSO.

  13. If Harry Reid is lying, Romney can make a fool of him by disproving his lies by just…releasing his tax returns. The fact that he won’t is very telling. Calling Reid names just gives him the chance to respond and make the accusations again which keeps Mitt’s refusal to release his tax returns in the news, etc, etc. Well played Harry!

This will continue to stay in the news because they can keep going around this circle indefinitely, then once Mitt announces his VP choice the very 1st question to him/her will be “how many years of tax returns did you submit to the Romney campaign for vetting?” thus keeping the issue in the news in perpetuity. Maybe Mitt can get the issue out of the news by taking another trip overseas, Haha!

  14. isnt it also true that reid has released his taxes for many years?… love seeing these repuke goons on defense, soon on the ropes……

  15. I find it interesting that Mitt Romney made no mention of paying “income taxes”, only “taxes”; which could be any kind of tax other than income taxes. Harry Reid will play Mittens for a few weeks and he eventually will let the cat out of the bag with full proof evidence of his claim. Mittens will be shown to everyone as the liar and phoney that many of us already know he is.

  16. In addition to tax returns, can we also ask what happened to all the data from when Mitt was gov. of Mass? That issue never gained any traction, but now seems like standard Modus Operandi.

  17. The point where Reince Priebus lost his cool and resorted to name calling was when it became clear that Senator Reid had won. A few weeks ago, many republicans were saying that requesting that Romney release more of his tax returns had become a non-issue. They were wrong. The issue is still very much alive, much to the chagrin of Romney, Priebus, and other republicans. By not releasing more of his tax returns as requested, Romney not only insulted the American people, he insulted the members of his party who also feel that he should be more open and transparent about his tax records.

  18. It’s payback time for the whole birther BS!

It’s Rove v.Rove, as Harry decides to go out in a blaze of glory.

Everyone dreams of a grand finale, but few have the understanding of history and memory to know when your moment is.

I suspect Mr. Reid has decided to retire, and before doing so, to light his own pyre and make S’mores. And enjoy every finger lickin’ ‘vengeance is mine!’ moment.

If I’m right, not just “attitude adjusted”, I would not be shocked to watch him light one on the Senate floor. I know I would.

If I’m not, I’d really love to see him do it, anyway. The great grand kids would adore it.

  19. It’s real easy to believe that Willard has probably pissed off a long list of people while sucking money out of people’s pocket with his schemes to get rich. Not all those who worked with him on the Olympics were impressed with his taking credit for the Olympics success. I can just picture him bragging and showing a Bain investor how to avoid paying income taxes. Some of the investment ended up bankrupt so conceivably an investor could have lost a lot of money.

If someone tells you something as a fact and you tell others what you heard, that doesn’t make you a liar. That’s a way news, true or false, travels. Fox does it all the time.
