Bryan Fischer Says Sikh Temple Shooter a Liberal Because He’s a Nazi

Bigot King Bryan Fischer, the Director of Issues Analysis for the American Family Association (AFA) says the neo-Nazi murderer who went on a killing spree in a Wisconsin Sikh temple was a liberal because the Nazis were liberals.

You know what the Nazi Party stands for? It’s the National Socialist Party. What about the word “socialist” do you not understand? They were the National Socialist Party – that is a left-wing political philosophy. And you think even here in the United States, who was the part of racism? It was the left, it was liberals who were the part of racism. It was Democrats that supported and defended the institution of slavery. It was Democrats that resisted the 13th, 14th, and 15th Amendments. It was Democrats that instituted Jim Crow laws. It was Democrats that created the Ku Klux Klan. It was Democrats that filibustered the Civil Rights Acts of the mid-1960s.

Were the Nazis liberals? Far from it. It is ironic to hear Fischer talk about understanding when he himself understands so little. He proves he has a literally third-grade understanding of history. Which means anyone who looks up to him as an expert must have a second-grade appreciation of history. It’s truly terrifying that people that ill-informed are allowed to vote – the comparison brings to mind the fears of some of the Founding Fathers about the ignorant masses.

But enough about stupid Republicans. No, I kid. Let’s talk some more about stupid Republicans.

I want to show you here some of the many ways in which the ideology and rhetoric of Hitler and National Socialism echo not liberalism, which it strongly condemns (along with atheism and feminism) but modern conservative attitudes – particularly with regard to a moral/religious revival and national exceptionalism.

Hitler’s anti-communist rhetoric echoes Ann Coulter’s – he even sounds like her, which makes you wonder if she has consciously modeled herself on him. Here is something Hitler said about Germany exceptionalism:

“Only brainless dwarfs cannot realize that Germany has been the breakwater against Communist floods which would have drowned Europe and its culture.”[1]

Or consider for a moment Hitler’s speech to the National Socialist Women’s Organization in September 1934, and you will hear echoes from the American Right (or vice versa):

“The phrase ‘women’s liberation’ is a phrase invented only by Jewish intellectualism, and its content is shaped by the same spirit.”[2]

Keep in mind that for Hitler and National Socialism, Judaism was to be equated with Bolshevism (Communism). The two were inseparable. So how can Hitler be a liberal and hate communism and women’s liberation when according to Republican ideologues it is liberals who are behind communism and women’s liberation?

Verdict: Hitler sounds like a Republican.

You’ve just listened to Bryan Fischer. You’ve heard other Republicans decry Nazism as socialist (and therefore Left-wing rather than Right-wing) but this ignores the way in which National Socialism viewed socialism. The Nazi conception again sounds very much like Republicanism:

“The Nazis’ notion of socialism bore some resemblance to the ‘Prussian socialism’ of discipline, duty, and service advocated by such theorists of the ‘conservative revolution’ as Oswald Spengler.”[3]

Republicans decry liberals for having no conception of these things: discipline, duty, service. They cannot have it both ways. If National Socialists promoted discipline, duty and sacrifice and Republicans promote discipline, duty and sacrifice, then how is National Socialism liberal?

I mean, look at what Hitler said about liberalism. He sounds like a Republican; it is literally right out of the GOP playbook. No Democratic politician or thinker would say this:

“Liberalism led to democracy, and democracy would lead to communism.”[4]

And like Republicans today, Hitler believed only strong-arm methods against the Left could stop the slide.

In a speech of 20 February 1933, significantly to leading German industrialists, Hitler stated that Bismarck’s statement that

“Liberalism is the pacemaker of Social Democracy”is now scientifically established and proven for us” and warned that “a given school of thought – thought direction – can unsuspectedly lead towards the dissolution of the foundation of the state.”

In the same speech, Hitler echoes Glenn Beck. Compare and contrast if you will:

Beck: “I, as a citizen, have a right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness, but that is not a guarantee of equal results.” – point 6 of Glenn Beck’s Nine Principles)

Hitler: “It is not by chance that one person accomplishes more than the other. The principle of private ownership…is rooted in this fact.”

Hitler also said in that speech, “We do not want communism in our economy.” The Republicans – and Beck – wholeheartedly agree.

Bryan Fischer says the Democratic Party has always been “the party of racism” but listen to Hitler on January 27, 1932 in a speech to the Industry Club, Dusseldorf:

“This view which forms the basis of the whole of the international thought-world of today and in its effects is carried to such lengths that in the end a Negro can sit as president in the sessions of the League of Nations leads necessarily as a further consequence to the point that in a similar way within a people differences in value between the individual members of this people are denied.”

Bryan Fischer claims that the Democrats are by nature racist but it isn’t Democrats who hate having a black president, draw pictures of a White House surrounded by a watermelon patch or sing “Barack the Magic Negro”; that would be the Republicans. Seems Nazism and the GOP have another thing in common: racism.

While we’re on the subject of racism and stupid Republicans, think about this: Fischer says the Democratic Party is responsible for the Ku-Klux Klan. So why is it that Republican governor Bobby Jindal’s new education program in Louisiana teaches that the KKK weren’t such bad fellows after all? This is right out of one of their textbooks:

“[The Ku Klux] Klan in some areas of the country tried to be a means of reform, fighting the decline in morality and using the symbol of the cross. Klan targets were bootleggers, wife-beaters, and immoral movies. In some communities it achieved a certain respectability as it worked with politicians.”—United States History for Christian Schools, 3rd ed., Bob Jones University Press, 2001

Remember, Bobby Jindal is being considered as a Republican vice presidential candidate – not a Democratic. You won’t find Democrats anywhere defending the KKK. White Supremacists are wholly on the side of conservative politicians today.

Atheism is another bogeyman in the Republican fear & hate paradigm; their abhorrence for atheism is well known and attested – you literally cannot draw two breaths without hearing another attack on atheism and how it is destroying the moral fabric of our country.

We have seen how atheists, as well as liberals and feminists, were responsible for 9/11:

Jerry Falwell: “The ACLU’s got to take a lot of blame for this. … And I know that I’ll hear from them for this. But, throwing God out successfully with the help of the federal court system, throwing God out of the public square, out of the schools. The abortionists have got to bear some burden for this because God will not be mocked. And when we destroy 40 million little innocent babies, we make God mad. I really believe that the pagans, and the abortionists, and the feminists, and the gays and the lesbians who are actively trying to make that an alternative lifestyle, the ACLU, People For the American Way – all of them who have tried to secularize America – I point the finger in their face and say: “You helped this happen.””[5]

In Godless: The Church of Liberalism (2006), we learn from Ann Coulter than liberals are atheists.[6] Conservapedia defines a liberal (communist/socialist) in basically the same terms as Hitler: someone who rejects Christianity and embraces a materialistic spirit: “A liberal (also leftist) is someone who rejects logical and biblical standards, often for self-centered reasons.”

Hitler also hated atheists. He spoke out against them frequently. He was himself a Catholic.[7] His voters were Christians – Protestants and Catholics.

Listen to Hitler on March 23, 1933 Berlin:

“The advantages of a personal and political nature that might arise from compromising with atheistic organizations would not outweigh the consequences which would become apparent in the destruction of general moral basic values. We were convinced that the people need and require this faith. We have therefore undertaken the fight against the atheistic movement, and that not merely with a few theoretical declarations: we have stamped it out.”

Or to Hitler’s speech in Berlin, February 23, 1933:

“A campaign against the “godless movement” and an appeal for Catholic support were launched Wednesday by Chancellor Adolf Hitler’s forces. They struck at two of his formidable opponents in the March 5 elections, the first at communists and the latter at the allied Catholic parties.”[8]

You want religious revival? Nobody is going to argue, not even a liar like Bryan Fischer, that the Democratic Party is pushing religious revivals, but listen to Hitler on March 23, 1933:

“The Government, being resolved to undertake the political and moral purification of our public life, is creating and securing the conditions necessary for a really profound revival of religious life.”

Or to Hitler on October 24, 1933:

“We were convinced that the people need and require this faith. We have therefore undertaken the fight against the atheistic movement, and that not merely with a few theoretical declarations: we have stamped it out.”

Who was the last Democratic candidate you heard speak out against atheism?

As a final comparison, Republican dislike for “secular” schools is well-attested. Think again about Bobby Jindal’s religious school program in Louisiana. Remember all the Republican rhetoric about these schools being necessary to bring the “word of God” back into our children’s education.

As it happens, Hitler spoke out against secular schools too. Here is Hitler on April 26, 1933, during negotiations leading to the Nazi-Vatican Concordant:

“Secular schools can never be tolerated because such schools have no religious instruction, and a general moral instruction without a religious foundation is built on air; consequently, all character training and religion must be derived from faith …we need believing people.”

Republicans speak often of the threat posed to “traditional values” by liberalism. Hitler saw the same threat, and Republican discourse again echoes National Socialist discourse.

Hitler, appearing in Dusseldorf on January 27, 1932 spoke of “the destruction of a people’s true values.” This is the same sort of thing we see spoken of on the right, an appeal to emotion, to fear of loss.

Here is Hitler April 1 1939 in Wilhemshaven:

“Thus we began the gigantic work of rebuilding based upon the confidence of the nation, instilled with the belief and the confidence in its eternal values.”

So though Republicans like to call Hitler a liberal, he was in fact a conservative, and the German people who supported him were conservatives and moreover, not atheists or Pagans (both groups ended up, with liberals, in concentration camps) but conservative Christians, both Protestants and Catholics.  We have already seen how he denounced liberalism and communism.

He also favored big business, he called for a renewal of values, he embraced morality and denounced immorality

Take Hitler’s proclamation of February 1, 1933 on his assumption of power the day before: “It struck a conservative, revivalist, anti-communist tone.” – a description that fits the Republican message of today:[9]

Communism with its method of madness is making a powerful and insidious attack upon our dismayed and shattered nation. It seeks to poison and disrupt in order to hurl us into an epoch of chaos…. This negative, destroying spirit spared nothing of all that is highest and most valuable. Beginning with the family, it has undermined the very foundations of morality and faith and scoffs at culture and business, nation and Fatherland, justice and honor.

On March 23, 1933 Hitler was in Berlin: speaking of “a thorough moral purging of the body corporate of the nation” and of “the maintenance of the eternal values present in the essential character of our people.”

Compare Mein Kampf (which Ann Coulter dishonestly equates with Obama’s autobiography) to Ann Coulter.

First Adolf Hitler:

Parallel to the training of the body a struggle against the poisoning of the soul must begin. Our whole public life today is like a hothouse for sexual ideas and simulations. Just look at the bill of fare served up in our movies, vaudeville and theaters, and you will hardly be able to deny that this is not the right kind of food, particularly for the youth…Theater, art, literature, cinema, press, posters, and window displays must be cleansed of all manifestations of our rotting world and placed in the service of a moral, political, and cultural idea.  – Adolf Hitler, Mein Kampf, Vol. 1 Chapter 10

Now Ann Coulter:

“Americans cannot comprehend how their fellow countrymen could not love their country. But the left’s anti-Americanism is intrinsic to their entire worldview. Liberals promote the right of Islamic fanatics for the same reason they promote the rights of adulterers, pornographers, abortionists, criminals, and Communists. They instinctively root for anarchy against civilization. The inevitable logic of the liberal position is to be for treason.”[10]
