Mitt Romney Tells You That You Don’t Want to See His Tax Returns

In a desperate attempt to change the subject, the Romney campaign is now claiming that you don’t care about his tax returns.

Here’s the video:

Transcript from CNN

ACOSTA: And Eric, very quickly, Mitt Romney came out and volunteered earlier this week that he hadn’t paid less than 13 percent as an effective tax rate in his taxes. Why won’t Mitt Romney prove it and just put his tax returns out there?

FEHRNSTROM: Well, I’ll tell you, Mitt Romney put out — he has said that he will put out two years worth of tax returns. He’s put out his full 2010 return, hundreds of pages of tax return information that is on his website. He’ll put out his 2011 returns once it is complete and filed. He has had financial disclosures going back to 2002 when he was governor of Massachusetts, and those, too, can be found on Mitt Romney’s website.

Look, taxes are not an issue. It is not what the American people are talking about. Just last month, we learned in July that 44 states saw their unemployment rates go up, and what is Obama’s answer to that? Higher taxes and more spending. If you are unemployed in America, you must feel like a drowning person who has just been thrown an anchor.

Mr. Etch-A-Sketch was speaking for Mitt Romney, and expressing the candidate’s delusional belief that people really don’t care about his tax returns. Fehrnstrom has worked for Romney for a long time. He is close to the candidate. If he says that the American people don’t care about the tax returns, that is exactly how Mitt Romney feels.

Mitt Romney is going to ignore all of the polling that shows vast majorities of Americans want to see his tax returns. The Romney campaign views this as a distraction issue, but the tax returns are all about Mitt Romney’s character.

The campaign’s latest destined to fail gambit on the question of the tax returns is to try to tell the American people what they think. Romney still has the voter candidate relationship all wrong. The candidate does not get to make demands of voters. The candidate doesn’t not get to ignore what the voters want. The candidate who doesn’t understand that they are asking the voters for support is destined to lose.

It is like the Romney camp trying to pull some Jedi mind trick. The Romney campaign fancies themselves some sort of political Obi-Wan Kenobi who thinks that they can wave their hands and make voters believe that they don’t want to see Romney’s tax returns.

Once again, another Romney surrogate interview was derailed by the tax returns question. The American people do want to see Mitt Romney’s tax returns. Every time they answer the question without releasing more returns is a win for the Democrats and Barack Obama.

  1. What the Republicans want is the complete destruction/subjugation of the non-rich to give everything to the rich (wealth, power, rights, etc). Unemployment will do nothing but increase wherever Republicans have power. I made a video about unemployment, and how we can fix it. It’s at my YouTube channel Zarrakan, and here’s the name:
    2012 6 5 ZOC Job Pyramid

Watch it, share it, and join the fight against those who want to kill all of us with destructive social policies.

  2. “Look, taxes are not an issue.” – Eric Fehrnstrom

To the contrary, Mr. F., to those of us who pay the taxes and benefit from said taxes – the taxes are of utmost relevancy (I pay a greater % than Mitt pays!).

And to the billionaire class, those who avoid, elude and Swiss-hideout the taxes that congress blesses loopholes for – tax evasion is everything: SS Cayman Islands R US for Mitt et al (Macau – Sheldon Adelson).

A disenfranchised republican told me so, today. Stick that in your tax haven, Tea-publican few.

  3. LMAO…nice try, Mr. Fehrnstrom; “These aren’t the tax returns you’re looking for” doesn’t work on other Jedi Knights, which, in this case, are people with BRAINS who USE THEM! ROFLMAO However, Darth Vader (Grover Norquist because he’s not a politician and he used a Jedi mind trick to get those dumbass GOP politicians to sign his traitorous pledge), the Dark Lord of the Sith, represents the Dark Side…watch out for him LOL

  4. This reminds me of a bit of dialogue from the movie The American President:

“President Andrew Shepherd: This is not the business of the American people!

    A. J. MacInerney: With all due respect, sir, the American people have a funny way of deciding on their own what is and what is not their business.”

  5. Romney says that he is highly qualified to be POTUS based on his extensive experience as a “job creator” and fiscal manager while at Bain … however we should not be allowed to analyze or critique said business experience, nor his ethics and values with respect to taxation policies.

Mitt to news media and Obama campaign:
“Don’t discuss my personal finances, don’t discuss my business practices, don’t discuss my recent overseas trip, and most of all, don’t discuss my policies and programs while Governor of Massachusetts.”

Okay, let’s talk about something totally benign … “Mitt, how’s Seamus? What? Don’t talk about the dog either?”

  6. Romney still has the voter candidate relationship all wrong.

Perhaps — but, he’s got the servant-lord of the manor relationship down pat.

    {his biggest problem is thinking the same rules of the latter relationship apply to the former one}

  7. If one has to submit to a credit check, background check and a drug test for a minimum wage job, then Mitt Romney has to release his tax returns…..

  8. Had Romney released his returns with no fuss (really? I have to have mine filed by 4/16/12 and he still hasn’t?) this would be a non-issue. We all know that he pays less percentage-wise. We all know why. His taxes would not so much illustrate what a rich bastard he is (well, they might….and then there are the foreign investments) as that the tax code is wicked screwed up.

  9. Herman Munster … I mean Mitt Romney … isn’t the professional business executive he’s leading the public to believe he is.

A good executive would know when she/he should respond and when not too.

All he had to do was ignore questions concerning his tax returns. And he has done so with other issues he doesn’t wish to discuss in public … his positions on policy, health care, the budget, the deficit, the military, taxes and so forth are topics not discussed until after the election so he can concentrate on painting Obama red.

His response to questions and getting his wife to be part of the discussion makes the them a point of interest because they are reacting to the questions in a manner that draws attention to them.

  10. Again, they’re going back to the Mormon religion and its mindset. I don’t think Romney and company can even comprehend that people won’t take them at face value and believe everything they say – and they’re outraged that people don’t “Believe and OBEY!”.

He WAS a Mormon “Bishop”, after all. Obedience is what he and his servants expect of us. After all, that’s what they’re used to.

  11. Wrong again, Mittens! We WANT to know just how stacked the system is for you–the ones who make money off other people’s money…
Just how many loopholes did you find?

  12. If he was to show you his ‘tax’ returns, you would see that he lied about investing in Stericycle, and umpteen other companies he does not want to be known…you would also probably see that he is so clueless to how much he gets away with, 13% sounded like a ‘fair’ figure to him, and there are probably shelters overseas that make these returns look like chickenfeed…he has shelter inside shelter inside shelter…and he was in control of them long past when he “retroactively” claims he was…

  13. Mittens his hiding a lot more that meets the eye re. his INCOME tax returns. I’m starting to believe Harry Reid statement that Mittens have paid any income taxes in some years. His tax shelters, and accounting shenangians would truly expose this greed, unscrupulous fraud for what he is, unPatriotic and antiAmerican. I’m also wondering if his INCOME taxes will reveal his BLOOD MONEY ties for the startup capital for Bain Capital.

  14. I was always told that if some ones always know what you are thinking and on the same breath tell you…They have something to hid and ((% of the time its a lie… Has nothing to do with Jedi mind tricks… Their mind reading is more like Harry Potter’s witch craft..
