With or Without Isaac, the Republican National Convention is Going to be One Windy Affair

The wind-blown version of One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest is upon us August 28th. After a day’s delay ex- preacher, current wing-nut and ever so slightly unethical entrepreneur near-billionaire, Pat Robertson, decided to call off a potential Issac strike on the Republican gathering held at the Tampa Convention Center and other assorted local venues. Simply taking out a few Log Cabin Republicans was just simply not worth the effort to Robertson.

Robertson’s weapon of choice would have been Tropical Strom Isaac with Hurricane status imminent. Isaac is certainly not to be taken lightly, having already waved a blanket of death and destruction over Haiti (at least 6 fatalities), Cuba and parts of Florida. It’s on a path to hit Louisiana, Mississippi, and Alabama as well. The convention site itself appears to be spared any severe weather effects other than possible rainfall. Florida Governor, Rick Scott has cancelled a scheduled speaking appearance to tend to weather issues and it appears Louisiana Governor, Bobby Jindal may have to do the same as Isaac and the horrifically destructive Hurricane Katrina bear some eerie and possibly devastating similarities.

Otherwise, the convention has been shortened by a day and the revised schedule looks like this. Moneybags and his Rock Star, “destroy all services for the poor and middle-classs/eliminate all taxes for millionaires and billionaires” VP henchman, will garner the nomination Tuesday. I’m assuming by acclimation with a possibly an interruption or two from the Ron Paul Libertarian contingent.

The hot shot 10-11 ‘prime-time’ speakers will stay the original course, with the convention timeline being pushed up a half-hour with a 7:00 p.m. start. Boorish and bullyish, New Jersey Governor, Chris Christie will give the Keynote Speech scheduled for 10:30 Tuesday night. It’ll be loud, funny to Republicans and irrelevant. Ann Romney was originally scheduled to speak right before Christie, now there’s talk that she might be moved to Thursday, the last night of the convention to talk in the same hour as her husband, Mitt. To accommodate the change, if indeed it comes to pass, Florida Senator, Marco Rubio may make the switch from his original Thursday night slot to Tuesday night. Maybe he’ll tell us how he went from a lock on the VP nomination to zippo. They found something.

Ann will bring her Junior League sensibilities of a more perfect union, a husband who is a wonderful God-fearing family man and how proud she is to be an American to the podium. That’s about as deep as this woman ever gets choosing not to talk about her deep inside the beltway ties as a former highly-connected DC Tax Attorney. Sure makes you pine for the Keynoting magnificence of the late Barbara Jordan.

There will be a parade of women gracing the stage. Condi will be there; the token of tokens – female AND black – AND the newly minted first of two charter female members (the other one’s a filthy-rich Southern Belle) of the racist and incredibly sexist Augusta National Golf Club. New Mexico Governor, Susana Martinez will mouth a few niceties (if she doesn’t self-deport). Nikki Haley, the South Carolina Governor will speak as well. The state’s getting a big kick out of her current push for ethical reform since her proposals pretty much apply directly to her. The GOP is getting Rick Santorum out of the way early. God awful Governor’s Scott Walker, from Wisconsin and Ohio’s John Kasich will have their say and Mike “Pinocchio” Huckabee will be given a slot. His anti-Obama TV commercial averages a lie every two seconds. Not bad and not particularly surprising for an ordained South Baptist Minister.

There’ll be a few other familiar faces all ripping the president a new one including the brother of the ex-president who is directly responsible for the disintegration of America. The Republicans know that, so Mr. ex is persona non grata. And the Tea Party crowd will swoon with the collective vapors at all the code words for lazy ‘N’s, disgusting F*g’s, greedy union members, job-stealing illegal aliens and especially those tax and spend democrats and all that women’s reproductive rights shit.

The Republican Platform will be refined and discussed. Mostly behind closed doors. Dick Armey insists that the party has already adopted the FreedWorks model platform with the exception of eliminating the Education Department. Since Republicans are in the process of killing public education on the state level through essentially privatizing and phony public charter schools and vouchers, why bother cluttering up the platform with the already obvious state anti-public education efforts.

In case you’re curious, here are a few other platform offerings from FreedomWorks. Repeal Obamacare, of course. Then stop those darn tax hikes. No less an authority than Fox News tells us that U.S. federal taxes are the lowest since the 1950’s. And if the Ryan budget goes through, Romney would pay less than 1% in federal taxes.

FreedomWorks and apparently by extension, the GOP Platform, wants to reverse Obama’s spending increases. The respected and Pulitzer Prize winning, PolitiFact looked into Obama’s spending and every other President’s spending over the last 60 years. Obama is the second lowest spender, a fraction higher than Eisenhower. Taking inflation into account, he’s actually decreased spending. Moving on. A flat tax. I believe I’ve written about this before. Research it and you’ll see why it’s a dumb idea even by Republican standards. A balanced budget amendment is next. See above. This is followed by rejecting Cap and Trade. Great idea. I suppose Armey wants to live next to one of those super-polluting “Cap and Traders.”

Then there’s “rein in the E.P.A.” ROTFLMAO. ’nuff said. How about we reduce the bloated Federal Work Force. Research Obama’s government jobs slaughter, fool! And the one platform feature, big business and financial interests can’t live without. Curtail Excessive Federal Regulation. Translation; curtail ALL regulation. As with Credit Default Swaps, unregulated derivatives that are in the process of creating the next International fiscal crisis. I’ve warned you about CDS’s many times. And lastly – audit the fed. At least the fed under a Democratic administration. Under the Republicans, maybe not.

There you have it. The next few days of Republican Convention events, speakers and platforms in review.
