Obama Releases Devastating New Ad Targeting Romney’s Cynicism

CHICAGO says, “Just a few days from the election, Mitt Romney isn’t where he wanted to be. As a result, Romney is stooping to desperate attacks, including one of the most misleading, hypocritical, and indefensible ads we’ve ever seen in a presidential race. In response, Obama for America has released new television ad “Cynical” to capture the remarkable desperation behind Romney’s current strategy. When Romney falsely suggested that Chrysler and GM are moving production to China, Chrysler itself debunked the myth and GM said the rumor comes from “some parallel universe.” The American people want a President they can trust, and long ago the middle class stopped trusting the man who wanted to ‘let Detroit go bankrupt.'”

Watch here:

Voiceover:
“Wholly inaccurate. Clearly misleading. That’s what news outlets are calling Mitt Romney’s latest ads…suggesting auto jobs are being sent to China.”

Voiceover:
“GM calls Romney’s ads ‘politics at its cynical worst'”

Voiceover:
“And Chrysler’s C-E-O said it’s simply not true.”

Voiceover:
“We know the truth, Mitt”

Mitt Romney:
“That’s exactly what I said, that headline that you read, which it said, ‘Let Detroit go bankrupt.'”

Politifact said Romney’s ad, “(S)trings together facts in a way that presents an wholly inaccurate picture. We rate the statement Pants on Fire!”

And the Washington Post Fact Checker gave “Four Pinocchios” to Romney’s auto ad. “This ad shows that we have entered the final, desperate week of the campaign. The series of statements in the ad individually may be technically correct, but the overall message of the ad is clearly misleading — especially since it appears to have been designed to piggyback off of Romney’s gross misstatement that Chrysler was moving Ohio factory jobs to China. It is also especially strange that the ad touts Romney’s endorsement by the Detroit News, when the editorial actually backs up Obama’s criticism of Romney’s response to the auto industry crisis. Four Pinocchios”

Yes. That’s right. Suddenly the factcheckers aren’t as confused as they’ve been pretending to be. Suddenly they get that stringing falsehoods along in a Glenn Beck chalkboard kinda way leaves the audience with the Fox conclusion that is a total lie and this is not okay.

Are we still pretending that Romney might not raise taxes on the middle class or that he isn’t telling us his real views on women’s wages or abortion because we would like what he has to say? Really?

It is with great relief that I say our media has finally caught up, and yet with less than a week to go, we have to ask, what took y’all so long?

Update: Oh, and by the way Governor, Chrysler is reporting that October car sales rose 10 percent. What were you saying about the auto bailout?
