Fox News Tries to Wash Away the Stench of Defeat By Benching Karl Rove and Dick Morris

Last updated on February 8th, 2013 at 03:09 pm

Fox News is trying to make America forget their totally wrong predictions of a Romney landslide by temporarily yanking Karl Rove and Dick Morris off the air.

New York Magazine reported, “According to multiple Fox sources, Ailes has issued a new directive to his staff: He wants the faces associated with the election off the air — for now. For Karl Rove and Dick Morris — a pair of pundits perhaps most closely aligned with Fox’s anti-Obama campaign — Ailes’s orders mean new rules. Ailes’s deputy, Fox News programming chief Bill Shine, has sent out orders mandating that producers must get permission before booking Rove or Morris. Both pundits made several appearances in the days after the election, but their visibility on the network has dropped markedly. Inside Fox News, Morris’s Romney boosterism and reality-denying predictions became a punch line.”

As far as Rove is concerned, it is said that Ailes is furious with the former Bush’s Brain’s on air election night tantrum over the calling of Ohio for Obama.

Let’s talk about the real reason Ailes put them both on ice. Fox News is trying to make America forget about their open, non-stop, and wildly inaccurate campaigning for Romney. The network is hoping that if they take the faces of some of the most inaccurate predictions in the history of punditry off the air, everyone will forget that 2012 ever happened.

They may be able to bench Rove and Morris, but there is an almost endless supply of video showing high profile Fox News hosts and guests predicting a huge Romney win.

What Ailes doesn’t seem to comprehend is that much like Romney’s 47% video, his network’s behavior during the 2012 campaign served as a confirmation for many people that Fox News puts partisan politics ahead of facts. This isn’t a problem that can be solved by hiding Rove and Morris in secure and undisclosed location and letting it blow over.

Ailes is worried that viewers who have isolated themselves inside the Fox News terror dome will start to ask questions. And viewers who ask questions are dangerous to the long term health of Fox. If the folks at home start to wonder why their trusted source for news got it all wrong, Roger will have a big problem on his hands.

Out of sight out of mind is what Roger Ailes is hoping for, but being so wrong about Romney was a epic body blow that could hurt Fox News for years to come.
