Iraq War Propagandist Accuses Obama of Encouraging Criminal Behavior with Plan B

Published by

Brad Blakeman, a former Deputy Assistant to Bush and Iraq War propgandist, was on Fox Friday morning to help spread the fear. Blakeman said that since having sex at the age of 15 can be statutory rape, President Obama is encouraging criminal behavior by making Plan B available over the counter.

Watch here via Media Matters:

Blakeman said, “This makes no sense you have to be 18 years old to buy a pack of cigarettes. And the President is also encouraging criminal behavior because most jurisdictions in America ah, engaging in sexual intercourse at 14-15 years old, is statutory rape so the President is somehow saying, engage in that activity, criminal behavior, that’s okay, the government is going to provide you an out for your bad decision making.”

Phew. That’s a lot of crazy. You might recall Blakeman from his time as Bush’s Deputy Assistant (2001-2004), or his time as the President of Freedom’s Watch, best known for an epic propaganda campaign waged against members of Congress whose support for the Iraq War was faltering

. In 2007, they announced, “The central message of Freedom’s Watch is that “the war in Iraq can be won and Congress must not surrender.”

Blakeman founded Freedom’s Watch with former Bush White House Press Secretary Ari Fleischer. Get it? Bush’s former press secretary and his former deputy assistant formed a company whose sole goal was to funnel millions into propaganda support the Iraq War. It was partly funded by none other than Mitt Romney’s Sheldon Adelson. If you’re wondering just how clueless it’s possible to be, in 2005, during yet another appearance on Fox News, Blake screamed, “Bush hasn’t made a mistake!”

So Blakeman knows criminal activity. He also predicted that Obama would lose the 2012 election because voters would ask themselves if they were better off than before and the answer would be no, which suggests that Blakeman is denying the across the board negative impact of his former boss.

Blakeman suffers from a failure to be pragmatic. The US has staggeringly high teen pregnancy rates. In an effort to combat them, it was recommended that we make the emergency birth control method of Plan B easily available. So, the FDA approved Plan B, one brand of emergency contraception, to be sold over the counter in the family planning aisle of drug stores for anyone 15 or older.

Blakeman threw “14” in there just for the shiny ball fear, “Obama is encouraging your 14 year old to have criminal sex!”, when in fact, the new law makes Plan B available for 15 years and up. And yes, just like cigarettes, they have to show ID. Furthermore, Plan B is not abortion. As for his charge that sex at 15 is criminal, well, good luck with that sir. That’s what we need- privatized jails full of teenage girls (don’t laugh, this could be an untapped source of revenue for Republican contractors).

Planned Parenthood explains that Plan B is not an abortion:

Pregnancy doesn’t happen right after sex. That’s why it’s possible to prevent pregnancy even after the fact. It can take up to six days for the sperm and egg to meet after having sex. Emergency contraception pills work by keeping a woman’s ovary from releasing an egg for longer than usual. Pregnancy cannot happen if there is no egg to join with sperm.

You might have also heard that the morning-after pill causes an abortion. But that’s not true. The morning-after pill is not the abortion pill. Emergency contraception is birth control, not abortion.

Blakeman seems most bitter about the “out” Plan B provides young women for their “bad behavior”. Said bad behavior might be getting raped in what doesn’t qualify as “legitimate” rape, or perhaps simply having sex while a condom breaks. For these things, a girl must pay in the Republican mindset.

So, while the charge of “bad behavior” has not been proven by the lawyer, the question remains: Why should she pay? Why should she allow an egg to implant when it has not yet? Why should she not exert control over her destiny? Why does Blakeman want more babies being born to unwed teenagers? If Blakeman is so concerned about statutory rape, why is he only focused on punishing the girl with an unplanned pregnancy?

Speaking of the “government” providing “outs” for “bad behavior”, the time has come to discuss Blakeman’s part in selling the Iraq War.

The gut wrenching irony: Republicans are obsessed with repressing and criminalizing sex, and yet totally unfazed by thousands of deaths they caused with their WMD lie. They don’t see an unnecessary war that lasted ten years criminal, but teenagers having sex must be punished.

Freud would have had a field day with this guy.
