We’ve already seen Rafael Cruz anointing his son as some sort of wealth-redistribution messiah, but the danger the Cruz family poses to American democracy goes far deeper than wacky, unbiblical dominionist belief or anarchistic tea party rhetoric.
Now this will no doubt hurt Ted Cruz’s feelings and he will claim he is a victim, but the truth is his father is a dangerous religious fanatic bent on destroying America as we know it. And his son could soon be running for president.
The people who feared JFK’s Catholicism had no idea what dangerous was. We, unfortunately, do, and contra FDR, we do have more to fear than fear itself. (Now, of course, conservatives are running with the storyline that JFK was actually a conservative.)
If you think the theocratic-controlled U.S. House of Representatives is scary, imagine having a president whose father believes that not only is Satan in charge of the U.S. government (Rick Santorum says Satan controls the film industry) but that evolution and LGBT rights are a communist plot, who says that, “There is nothing scientific about evolution.”

Evolution is one of the strongest tools of Marxism because if they can convince you that you came from a monkey, it’s much easier to convince you that God does not exist.
Of course, evolution says no such thing; Cruz is fielding a straw man and refuting a claim that has never been made by science. Here, watch him rant or skip to the transcript below and save your blood pressure:
You know communism or socialism, whatever you want to call it, what is happening in this country is not different than what happened in Cuba; the procedure might be different, they may be a little slower, but it’s the same thing. It is about government control of your lives. You got to realize how Marxist, how socialism works. We need to understand the issues. When you hear all these things about homosexual marriage, this has nothing to do with homosexual rights. Did you know that? The whole objective is the destruction of the traditional family, it has nothing to do with homosexuals, they could care less about homosexuals, they want to destroy the family.
You need to understand, it’s just like evolution. You know most Americans have their head in the sand about evolution. I’ve met so many Christians that tell me ‘evolution is a scientific fact.’ Baloney! I am a scientist, there is nothing scientific about evolution. But you know something, Karl Marx said it, ‘I can use the teachings of Darwin to promote communism.’ Why? Because communism, or call it socialism if you think communism is too hard a word, necessitates for government to be your god and for government to be your god they need to destroy the concept of God. That’s why communism and evolution go hand and hand. Evolution is one of the strongest tools of Marxism because if they can convince you that you came from a monkey, it’s much easier to convince you that God does not exist.
I could counter by saying that if you can believe in the trinity you can believe in anything. It was Kierkegaard, after all, who said faith is belief in the absurd, in something for which there is no rational justification. But there is rational justification for evolution. Evolution is hardly a myth. It is visible, taking place all around us. It is not merely something to be read from the fossil record or out of the imaginations of scientists. Evidence for evolution abounds; religious fanatics simply refuse to acknowledge it.
Foreign countries falling down laughing is one thing, but think about the consequences for education in the US; Dominionism wants control of the U.S. government. Think about human rights and the Constitution’s promise that all of us are created equal. Think about the executive orders President Cruz would sign because executive orders are suddenly not the instrument of tyranny they are in the hands of a black president.
Dominionist doctrine and dogma, on the other hand, come from where? They do not come from the Bible. You won’t find the dominionist agenda in the Old Testament. You won’t find it in the New Testament either. It is instead the creation of corrupt and power-hungry totalitarian-minded men and women who want control of our government and have invented a new religion based on Christianity to justify their claims.
Actual Christians should be horrified and repelled to see their religion so mutilated and distorted, to see their beliefs twisted out of their original context, and their god libeled. It is almost enough to make you wish for a return of the Inquisition.
The problem is, so few people are aware of the dominionists. It is not improbable that the self-styled “fervent Republican” sitting in the cubicle next to you has never heard of these people and has no idea what dominionism means. Republicans, many of them, do not know whose agenda they are supporting when they cast their vote.
But ignorance will offer no protection from dominionism. When Ted Cruz was anointed, the blessing spoken over him included the words, “Father, we believe that no weapon formed against [Cruz] will prosper and every tongue that rises up against him in judgment will be condemned.”
No, it is not a communist plot we need to worry about; it’s a dominionist plot. Satan can’t hurt us and communism is so 50s. What is here and now that can and will destroy us is dominionism and its unholy step-children, Rafael Cruz and his son, the wealth-redistribution messiah, Ted.
