Operation American Spring Rallies a Few Hundred Lunatics at Most

So the Tea Party, which isn’t even popular among Republicans, who aren’t popular among Americans in general, and are only marginally less unpopular than the Tea Party, thought they could bring the unwashed masses down on DC and force President Obama to step down so they could arrest him, try members of his administration, and appoint a junta to run the country in accordance with the Constitution, because, you know, the Constitution allows for the appointment of juntas by rebellious groups.

Some of them hoped for violence. Organizer Harry Riley predicted in December, “[I]t will be painful, and some people may die because the government will not be non-violent; some of us will end up in a cell, and some may be injured,” In January, he promised that at least 10 million people would show up.

It didn’t turn out so well. A few dozen people. Right Wing Watch counted a hundred, quipping that the claim of 10 million was off by just 10 million. We liberals all knew this movement would fizzle out like all the others, that it would have the impact of a KKK rally or a Nazi march through the suburbs of Chicago. A few desultory jeers and the revolution is over. Their claims to represent the will of the American people seem proven to be a little off. They call themselves patriots, but the Founding Fathers’ generation had just a little more get up and go.

Ari Zed tweeted,

Well, no use denying it, we’ve all been hoping for that moment to come.

He also has a nice list of excuses why nobody showed up if you need a chuckle this morning. My mother taught me to never laugh at crazy people, but sometimes you can’t help yourself.

Despite the laughably pathetic attendance, Jim Garrow, another organizer of the would-be coup, who has previously said Obama should be stood against the wall and shot, worried that, as Brian Tashman writes at RWW, that “President Obama would shut down access to Washington Area Traffic Camera Feeds so people wouldn’t see the masses descending on the capital.” I suspect Garrow was really hoping those feeds would shut down so nobody would see the trickle of lunatics lolling about the mall wishing Obama would go away.

It turns out, if images weren’t appearing it was because organizers weren’t posting them out of embarrassment.

Oh dear.

But never fear. The lunatics are not going away. They are gathering again in Michigan right now, with The Freedom Summit: Prepare to Govern!, which is hosted by, you guessed it, Jim Garrow.

Also present will be Kerry Bentivolio, a Republican congressman who thinks Obama should be killed for treason and retired general Paul Vallely, who thinks military coups are as constitutional as tea party coups. Other right wing lunatics will be present as well, enough so that an untimely outbreak of Ebola – or maybe just severe food poisoning – would pretty much end America’s problem with mass-uprising fantasists.

Keep in mind this is an election year. Republicans are less popular than ever before. The Democrats have some really good candidates out there, sensible candidates who care about Americans. The Republicans…well, not so much. Lunatics mostly, each trying to outdo the other with their lunacy. The Republican Party, which has gone collectively insane, seems to think Americans want this sort of thing. They don’t seem to realize “this sort of thing” wedded to their refusal to govern even when they get the opportunity, might be making them a wee bit less popular than Democrats.

And it’s not like you can say the establishment Republicans are any better than the Tea Party type. After all, they have Karl Rove, who said Hilary spent 30 days in the hospital when she spent 3, and that despite having faked her accident she somehow suffered brain damage from a fall she never took. There are plenty of voters who don’t pay attention, but c’mon. We do have video tape. We do have Internet, and if the mainstream media will suffer from collective amnesia, blogs like this will not. We remember. We will make sure everybody who opens their eyes and ears will remember and realize that you cannot say one thing and then another and expect them both to be accepted as true.

  1. just to be repetitive… as I said in a previous post… they should’ve offered free booze…

    its a REAL American tradition..

  2. If these imbeciles were arrested at one of these Seditionist Hatefests, we would be rid of them. They are breaking federal law and need to be held accountable. Obviously, they are too stupid to realize they can go to prison. It would only take a few arrests and indictments.

Freedom of Speech STOPS where SEDITION starts.

  3. Nothing is free for libertarian groups. Not even water and air. Someday they will attempt to charge us to inhale fresh air.

  4. You guys seem to be making fun of this. There are at least 9,999,900 nutjobs out there MIA. Someone needs to be investigating this. I suspect that you’ll find that there was an inordinate amount of black helicopter activity yesterday, and that the FEMA concentration camps are now overflowing. Stop this atrocity now.

  5. I suspect, John, that are are not actually 10 million nut jobs out there. I suspect that there are more like ONE million, and even they couldn’t be bothered to show up for this ‘historic event!!!’ Now, maybe they are on their way. The coup was supposed to take time, after all. But with a similar event in MI, and the continued stomping on the rights of Bunkerville’s sane citizens in the desert, they are spreading themselves kind of thin (well, as much as is possible for the body types I noticed yesterday.) So I don’t think they were sucked up into a drone, or deposited somewhere in Idaho or Wyoming. No, they will see the sights in DC, take some pictures of themselves wrapped in a flag they don’t believe in, and go home and tell tales. It’s what they live for, government check to government check. But do end all taxes!!

  6. Well….the REAL revolutionists showed up yesterday. They warn’t put off by a little rain. Today is when them fair weather revolutionaries show up. Today is when you’ll see the 10 million…jest yew wait!

  7. Why can you go to prison for elbowing a police officer but walk free for threatening to overthrow the government? Something is horribly wrong.

  8. “Why can you go to prison for elbowing a police officer but walk free for threatening to overthrow the government? Something is horribly wrong.”
It’s called Freedom of Speech. As long as one only threatens but does not act, it is protected speech. This makes our government great, as opposed to the right-wing theocracy these wacko-birds want to install.

  9. I hoped 10 million would of showed up and they would try to take over the White House and the U.S. Military would kill everyone of them. Like a bigger version of what should of happened at Bundy’s farm.

  10. Ridiculous…….. Front page picture of this so called “event” shows a shirtless bum with an AMERICAN flag draped across his luggage. The flag is touching the ground DAMMIT and this so called patriot just don’t seem to care. SEE FLAG PROTOCOL and practice it

  11. Whatever bottle Speaker the boehner is in, is now rolling around on the table and heading for a sudden meeting with the floor.
These people cant get enough bags out for a convention, let alone a government takeover. This is a 1% funded thing to make the government look bad, but as usual the people failed them. The 1% takeover will have to be put off.
I did participate last night in #Americanspringexcuses on twitter. Some of them were truly epic

Someone started a lawnmower in the neighborhood and I thought it was a drone so I stayed in the basement all day #Americanspringexcuses

  12. Tim we here never wish for anyone’s death or personal harm. Please do not post like that again. These types of posts will be removed.

  13. One minute they are afraid of Obama and his drones and the next minute they want a junta government . . . all twisted up, each and every single one of them because there is a Black guy in the White house. Of course they will never admit it but . . .

  14. They were scoring high in Call of Duty. And they couldn’t afford to fill the truck. Their scooters ran out of battery power and they didn’t buy any sun screen, so the first foray out of the basement and into open air resulted in their first sunburn of the year. Ouch.

Also people who weigh 300 pounds just aren’t good at this whole marching thing.

  15. The Democrats are looking good for this election: Americans are tired of the RW nonsense; Democrats have some good candidates. BUT, none of this is any good, if Democrats don’t get out and VOTE!

  16. Nice of the Michigan Freedom Summit people to post the names and faces of their head lunatics so that the rest of us can readily target…oops, didn’t mean to use that word…point out how stupid/bigoted/hateful they are on various social media platforms.

  17. Top five excuses for not taking part in the revolution:

Battery died or the pickup wouldn’t start.

Couldn’t stand to be away from my guns for that long

Thought I heard a black helicopter/drone buzzing the neighborhood.

Boss wouldn’t give me the day off.

And the number one excuse, Mama wouldn’t let me go.

  18. The teabagging/militia groups were never grassroots organizations. They were funded by big money republican organizations as long as they were useful. Now that normal Americans have figured out how freakin’ nuts they are, republicans can not drop them fast enough.

  19. Apparently most people aren’t interested in living in an American version of Syria or Egypt. There will be an election in 2016. For better or for worst make your voice heard then. But don’t stand there telling me that I have to be forced through military coup to live in your version of America. Even these forefathers people rant about would roll over in their graves I’m sure.

  20. Actually it does not. Read court findings – if there is no act, it’s free speech. Good thing, too because that finding was over a VA nurse who’d written very strong things against President Bush. The courts ruled she had that right. Not sedition if there’s no overt act.

Do learn the law please. They misinformed hype from our side is embarrassing, too.

  21. Okay that’s the funniest thing I’ve read about this whole fiasco! Of course they could use that to their benefit and say they far surpassed their goal of 10 milling people!

  22. No overt act, that’s why. Elbowing a cop is an overt act. Declarations without acts are free speech. Picketing with signs is free speech. Rallies are a First Amendment issue.

Get over it. Even wingnuts have rights. They know the line they don’t want to cross. Best we understand that, too.

  23. It stops becoming freedom of speech when they speak of violence and threats. If someone called your house or came to your home and said they were going to do this to a family member at that home, they would indeed be arrested. Free Speech doesn’t cover every word that comes out of your mouth. It does until you are a threat to others or yourself.

  24. The ten million they thought were on their webpage were actually teenagers (or 40 year olds) living in their mother’s basement.

  25. I mistaken hit the Thumbs Up button on your post. I meant to hit the Down button. While we liberals may have fundamental differences with the tea party and their ilk, we do not condone anyone’s death. We should be bigger than that. On face book post on these tea party pages, they threaten the President with threats just like the one you posted, and much worse. Please don’t stoop to their level… be civil… thanks :)

  26. Who rented all those chairs and the flexibarriers and paid people to put them out? Certainly not Americans Pring. Could y’all call around to the event supply houses? To get a name? Just to rule out the Kochs, you know.

  27. Actually, it was thousands of unmonitored Koch sponsored spambots left over from the ’12 election, messaging back and forth with the 72 patriots. So, they made a mistake anyone could have made.

  28. These people are just blowing off steam. They are well with in their right. Since I already got blacklisted off one site, I will keep our 1st amendment rights to myself. Let those who sleep meet their own fate.

  29. It would be appreciated if you presented facts which you are very short on in this missive. I was not an organizer of Operation American Spring, neither did I attend the event.

You published an old inaccurate poster of an event that I did not attend nor did I speak at – The Freedom Summit.

Get your facts straight so your readers can at least be entertained with some truth.

  30. “You published an old inaccurate poster of an event that I did not attend nor did I speak at – The Freedom Summit.”

The Freedom Summit is this weekend

  31. I heard about a guy who really wanted to attend this function but said…

“His wife and her boyfriend took off with the lube, and without it he could not pull his head out of his ass”

  32. Where is that line of “overt act” drawn though? You CAN be arrested for making threats. And these people made threats, then physically show up. I can’t walk thru airport security and tell a TSA Agent “I might wanna blow up a plane today”. I’d be hauled off. I can’t walk up to a Secret Service Agent and say, today would be a good day for me to kill the President….can I?

  33. Try going thru an airport and mumble to a TSA Agent something about blowing up a plane. See how far free speech goes when it comes to uttering threats.

  34. The latest lie is “FEMA” would not allow it and the cameras were turned off……people actually believe this BS. I knew there would be a “reason” why millions did not show up…just didn’t predict it would be “FEMA stopped it.” How many people and hours did it take to come up with that? If you want to feel nauseated…read the comments attached to this “TellMeMore” story. These are actually our fellow Americans and I am embarrassed and ashamed for them.

  35. Garrow, the ONLY thing we care to hear about you and the rest of the SEDITIONISTS is that you have been arrested and indicted for

SEDITIOUS CONSPIRACY and after conviction, serve 20 years!

  36. I agree – there’s a huge difference between protesting the president’s policies, and preaching sedition, which is traitorous in the extreme.

If these animals, and their know-nothing ‘leaders’ would only sober up, they’d realize that most of the country LOVES President Obama. That most Americans think that he’s right up there among America’s best Presidents, for having ended both unjust wars AND the economic meltdown, all of which directly attributable to Republicans.

And, that most of the country thinks that these pigs should go home, take a bath, try to scrub Ted Nugent-ism off of them and away from their minds – and, in general – thank God that they live in a country where seditionists don’t actually face the consequences of their actions.

You got it all exactly right, JCBLUES. These people are TRAITORS TO THEIR COUNTRY.

  37. As I said to JCBLUES, these people are traitors to their country. Protesting is one thing – preaching sedition is traitorous in the extreme, and these people should answer for their crime.

  38. The Tea party wants you to believe that. Both parties get money from WS, 15 to Republicans 1 for democrats. Part of the conservatives plan to win the senate is to discourage the vote, if any body beleive as you, will not vote or vote for any alternative candidate. Only one party wants to “increase” minimum wage- in reality just adjust income- one party wants equal opportunity, invest in infratructure, reduce or eliminate interest for students, and so on. My preference in ideology are not the democratic party, but at least to me, is the best alternative to the Greens. (excuse my ESL)

  39. Jim Garrow,
I heard you on a radio program state that you would be there. YOu asked the host of this show if he would interview during the event. I think it was the Bob Morrow show.

  40. That is the way how they operate. There should be always a balance between them. The election procedure is the time to make money it is not for election purposes at all. Who is going to be the president is decided far in front of the elections. Of course, they fight each other but at the end it is the master who says who gets on top of the pyramid and close on the food chain. Wake up Americans there is no freedom and democracy any more. Only those who created America know when the freedom and democracy actually changed from fact to words.

  41. Bringing booze would solve the problem of folks not showing up, it would create a whole new batch of problems, since the type of people most likely to attend would think, that loaded guns go well with drunken lunatics.
