Right Wing Freaks Out With DOJ Announcement to Crackdown on Domestic Terrorists

tea-party-terrorist

When Eric Holder announced  that the DOJ is bringing back its committee on Domestic Terrorism, right wing hypocrisy on terrorism was on full display. Simply put, when white supremacists use violence and terrorize communities to further their political agenda, it’s free speech. Only foreign terrorism counts, except when there’s an opportunity to engage in a little home grown Islamophobia, racism or both.

So when you go after people who are merely good conservatives who bomb abortion clinics and murder doctors you’re just going after people who disagree with you.  How dare the government go after good faux Christian White Supremacists?  That’s not going after domestic terrorists, it’s going after anyone who is white and opposes the Obama Administration.

Got it?

Pat Dollard claimed this is about mobilizing to wage war on white men.  Alex Jones wasn’t about to miss out on the opportunity to dismiss the reality of domestic terrorism when it sounds so much scarier to say that Obama is going after his political enemies.

Glenn Beck took the opportunity to chime in with: ”This regime is now justifiably terrified that attempts to overthrow them and re-establish our constitutional government and the rule of law may occur. A nazi/Stalin regime like rule is about to begin where people will be arrested and detained without evidence but on suspicion alone. Unlike Germany, there are no allies to come to our rescue to stop it.”

The SPLC’s report on the right wing’s reaction can be read here.

Most of our attention was focused on the right wing freak out over Bowe Bergdahl’s release because hey, it’s negotiating with “real” terrorists over a POW who studied ballet, his father has a beard and there are rumors that Bowe may have been a deserter.  That’s so much different from say, Cliven Bundy who was just exercising his right to be a deadbeat.  The government actually expects him to pay grazing fees? Don’t you know, in that case, the government was engaging in an act of terrorism. *facepalm*

In the sociopathic minds of the extreme right, all is fair in the name of stopping certain forms of terrorism.  If it means profiling Muslims or people who “look” Muslim that is okay because it’s about keeping America and Americans safe. War crimes are justifiable as is a white male Republican President’s Unitary executive doctrine.

Their reaction is very different when the terrorists in question are government hating white supremacists. Back in 2009, Republican sociopaths stomped their feet to condemn a DHS report that identified white supremacists as the greatest domestic threat to national security.

Folding to Republican temper tantrums, then DHS Secretary Janet Napolitano withdrew the report.  She also apologized to those who were offended by the fact that right wing terrorists would find returning vets who possess combat skills and experience attractive and would try to recruit them.

The reality is the report was right.  The attack on the Sikh Temple in 2012 was by a Neo-Nazi who was recruited while he was in the army.  Then there’s the case of the right wing radicals from Georgia who organized a far-right militia unit  while they were in the Army.  Eventually they murdered to hide their planned acts of terrorism.

Republicans continued to stomp their feet until the DHS shutdown the Domestic terrorism unit.

As a result, domestic terrorists have had free reign with nods and winks from many of the same people who smell impeachment because Bergdahl begins with the same letter as Benghazi.

In saner times, there would have been consensus around Eric Holder’s announcement to re-establish the committee to investigate domestic terrorism.  Actually, the DHS’s domestic terrorism unit would never have been shut down.  But we’re living in times when “patriots” call a president’s refusal to leave a soldier behind an impeachable offense.  The reality is we can blame Republicans for defending and pandering to home grown terrorists but we can only blame ourselves if we back down when Republicans use the language of terror to shut down efforts to enforce the law against home grown terrorists.

  1. Anyone who protests this move is probably guilty. Anyone who is American would want to stop domestic terrorism.

Beck is hilarious when he thinks the president is terrified by attempts to remove him from office. What attempts Beck? 40 men women and children(human shields) showing up on the mall?

Domestic terrorism is the goons at Bundy’s ranch. It is the republican house.

We cannot live with this in our midst. We shouldn’t ever have to.

  2. Speaking of the welfare cheat Bundy…

The signs have been there for years but the media and yes this administration cowered before the Reich wing hate machine. First they suppress the Homeland Security report I think back in 2009. A study that Bush started and remember the West Point report? https://www.ctc.usma.edu/posts/challengers-from-the-sidelines-understanding-americas-violent-far-right

A lot of people don’t because the so called liberal media refused to report on it.

  3. This will be woven into “they’re coming to get our guns – this is just a ruse!”

Or … it’s just another detraction from Benghazi, Bergdahl, the VA, etc., etc…

Nothing this president does is ever done without some underlying threat to the right wing nuts – it’s always all about them, never about bettering the country. They see conspiracies and ulterior motives in everyone and everything!

Get out the popcorn, pull up a chair and get comfortable – this is gonna be a drama filled summer :-/

  4. It’s about time we purge ourselves of these fake Americans! We should find an island somewhere far away from this nation and put them there.

  5. I always wondered why these seditionists were being allowed to get away with calling out the government. Funny, isn’t it, that if the “protesters” are white, “christian”, gun toting Americans threatening to do bodily harm to any who oppose them they are given free rein until they get out of control, but if they are any other color ( race has nothing to do with it since we are all homo-sapiens ) and carrying nothing more offensive than signs, they are agitators who need to be suppressed with all speed. I’m white ( with a liberal dose of many other peoples of color ), and still I am disgusted by these inbred white supremacists ( in breeding is a consequence of choosing not to get in the gene pool ) and their counter productive and senseless attacks on an administration put in place by the American voters regardless of the cash and lies pumped out to stop it

  6. It’s only going to get worse. The anti-American right won’t be able to handle President Hillary, the success of Obamacare, and all their insane conspiracy theories exposed as total BS. They are the biggest threat to our democracy.

  7. Oh please these nuts just want an excuse to “Stand Your Ground”. You know when they shoot a six year child of color because they felt threaten. In their America, they are the only ones who should be able to defend themselves. If you keep voting for the Repulican Party as it is now. Sonner or later there will be a race war.

  8. I’ve run into a lot of these cowards her in central Ohio. It seems they like to threaten and pose but they are nothing without their guns. I’ve had them even pull their proxy penis’s out and threaten to shoot me and I always say “go ahead and pull the trigger my problems will be over but YOURS will have just begun”..then their eyes glaze over in the dull look of abject stupidity and resignation.

  9. It’s already come to that.

Radio waves don’t stop at the border. In the province of New Brunswick, a man went on a rampage and murdered police officers so that they wouldn’t take his guns away. They’ve done it now, of course. They’ve also taken him into custody…alive. Few American forces would have been so indulgent.

What they found was that he had been an addict of American gun nut propaganda. This kind of propaganda is not allowed on Canadian airwaves, but they can’t stop ours. As long as the public airwaves are allowed to be used for this kind of thing, we are endangering the personal safety of not only our citizens, but those of all English-speaking countries within our reach. I think we really need to ponder that.

  10. I live in the middle of an 81% Tea Party community where guns are quite popular and let me tell you that few of them openly carry their beloved guns in their home towns. You know why? They’re mostly white, “Christians” and everyone else has guns too. Some of them still act ignorant here too, but they choose to visit cities with more minorities and Democrats in order to display their weapons. I’d love to see them tote their semi-automatics down the street in a mostly gang-infested area, but they won’t because they’re cowards. They pick on middle-class Democratic neighborhoods with a slightly higher population of minorities, but not enough to make them feel threatened.

  11. I lived in Sydney, Nova Scotia for a short time. They are 1500 miles from Detroit, MI, but for whatever reason, when they got cable TV they got news from Detroit. This quiet, racially stable town suddenly was beset with the fear of Black people and terrified of crime. NOTHING happened there, but they were made apprehensive and wary simply because of the Detroit news. Your observations about our airwaves polluting Canada can thus be confirmed. I saw it myself, and it was very sad.

  12. Let’s not forget that the 2nd worst terrorist attack on US soil was committed by Timothy McVeigh in OKC. From wikipedia, “McVeigh, a militia movement sympathizer and Gulf War veteran, sought revenge against the federal government for their handling of the Waco Siege, which ended in the deaths of 76 people exactly two years prior to the bombing, as well as for the Ruby Ridge incident in 1992. McVeigh hoped to inspire a revolt against what he considered to be a tyrannical federal government. He was convicted of eleven federal offenses and sentenced to death.”

  13. Sorry, Kmori, I’m just not amused enough by the RW vitriol and acting out of the paranoid gun nuts to invest in a supply of popcorn.

We’re more concerned with The Big One out here on the Oregon coast, which has nothing to do with politics or climate change. We’ve got a CERT program going here, and those preparations are also useful in case the Republicans take over this November or in 2016…

    (no joke)

  14. It is about damn time that these idiots realize that they are NOT the majority and that they cannot change the Constitution just to suit their agenda!!!! GO GET ALL OF THEM!!!!!

  15. Hmmm, propose to take action to discourage domestic terrorism, and a certain small subset society freaks out. Ya don’t suppose those people just might be essentially the domestic terrorists?

  16. Domestic terrorist, insurgents, seccessionists, survivalists, seperatists, and yes—bigots are more dangerous to this country than foreign terrorists. These guys and gals BLEND IN! No one suspects that their up to no good when they congregate with guns and rifles with mean looks and frothing mouths. Be careful, be veeeeery careful of these types. Especially when they have politicians wink-winking or condoning their attitudes. Be veeery careful America.

  17. I just remember the right wing rhetoric heated up in the 1990s which resulted in the Oklahoma City Bombing. The right wing has lost their civility years ago and NEED to be watched.

  18. These same Right Winger people very likely would defend home-grown terrorist Timothy McVeigh’s bombing of the Murrah Federal Building in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, in the 1990s.

Hang in there and take care, everyone.

  19. And I swear on my grandparents’ graves that I did not see AstroRick’s post about OKC until a few seconds before typing THIS. So hang in there and take care.

  20. What I find interesting about the Bergdahl case, it is the same as the Bush deserter case that the rabid right defended!!! We have military witnesses, we have in time of war, we have documents, we have the same laws, yet somehow one US troop is treated different than another US troop. One can be President, and one is a Traitor! How does their mind make these decisions?

  21. I also live in tea party land….you would not believe the stuff that goes on in local papers! Guns, guns, guns! Snake handlers, preachers owning pawn shops and selling guns, giving away guns as a incentive to come to their service! Animal abuse running rampant, and if you post about it some nut job will explode the conversation about abortion! I can only imagine who belongs to actual militia groups…..there is a hot bed of extremists that definitely need to be monitored!

  22. I sure hope you’re wrong. I am white, my wife is black, my children mixed. For my family there will be no pretending it doesn’t happen. It’s all around us. Funny thing is, most of the people all up in arms about black people don’t really know any of them, racism doesn’t seem to be as big a problem in the city where cultures nix as it is in rural areas that are mostly white.

As for the crackdown on domestic terrorism, it seems to me if you want to kill somebody you’ve never met, and who poses no physical threat to you, simply because you disagree with them then you, not they, are the problem. Reasonable people can agree to disagree, and work around their differences. It’s the way America has operated for over 200 years.

  23. Aha! So, right-wingers, the shoe is now on the other foot! Wear it and shut up!

I have long said that the extremists are “home-grown terrorists” that need to be dealt with accordingly – for treason!

  24. Yep, Churchlady320, propaganda works. Fear is a great motivator for people to allow themselves to be easily cowed into doing whatever the moneyed Powers that Be want them to do.

Hey, it worked in Nazi Germany, so it will work anywhere.

The Libertarian and radical Republicans were taking notes during the Nuremberg trials – on how to brainwash large swaths of people for their gain.
