Fake Christian Tony Perkins’ Out-of-Control Persecution Complex

Tony Perkins, who has previously and repeatedly said Christians are being persecuted in this country, hasn’t changed his tune with Hobby Lobby winning the right to persecute people they don’t like.

Even fellow fake Christian, Liberty Counsel’s Matt Barber, is willing to allow that the SCOTUS ruling puts his fellow bigots in a very strong position when it comes to persecuting imagined sinners. But Perkins is certain President Obama is going to start rounding up Christians any day now.

Perkins, who has previously said that conservative Christians have more rights than other Christians, told Fox News’ Todd Starnes on Washington Watch this weekend that,

I do think that it could very well come to that in our lifetime. A few years ago I didn’t think it would, not this quickly, but as we have seen the aggressive nature of this administration and this president and the open hostility of this administration toward orthodox faith – we have seen it in the HHS mandate, we have seen it in the numerous cases regarding marriage – I think it is going to come down to that.

I suppose Perkins could be right if he goads his misguided followers into some very un-Christian and anti-Jesus civil disobedience, which is precisely what he called for in the wake of marriage equality bans being struck down in Indiana and Utah.

Christians, you remember, are supposed to turn the other cheek. Jesus didn’t tell them to get out and engage in civil disobedience, but to love their enemies and turn the other cheek. He was very clear on this point. A point Perkins seems determined to ignore.

How can you be a Christian – a follower of the Christ, the messiah – if you don’t listen to what the Christ wants you to do?

Good question. Perkins’ solution is to simply pretend Jesus never existed. Jesus is just a name, a weapon to be wielded in his pet and quite often, un-Christian causes.

Paradoxically, Perkins is big on the whole “orthodoxy” thing, which is interesting, given that he is not himself orthodox in his views. Orthodox comes from the Greek, “right opinion” – right opinion, not surprisingly, being determined by the majority. Heresy, also unsurprisingly, also from the Greek, means “choice” which in a totalitarian regime, is, of course, a bad thing. Heretics have made a choice to deviate from what the majority says. You do see where this is going, don’t you?

The problem for Tony Perkins is that he is not in the majority. The majority is dead set against him. Yet here is Perkins, the fake Christian, berating the majority as “supposed” Christians because they support LGBT rights.

Better sit down before you read this example of Perkins bearing false witness in contravention of the Ten Commandments he pretends to defend:

A straightforward reading of the Bible shows that since the beginning God held human life to be sacred, and values human life, no matter the stage,” Perkins says. “I imagine that Christians, supposed or true, who support Planned Parenthood either do not fully understand what abortion is, what its physical and emotional consequences are or what Planned Parenthood as an organization actually stands for and advocates.

Oh dear. I don’t know what Bible Perkins is reading but mine doesn’t read like that at all.

Obviously, as I have shown here before, the god of the Old Testament shows no value for human life whatsoever, and examples abound. I will provide a couple of brief examples here to demonstrate how “God held human life to be sacred, and values human life, no matter the stage”:

While Israel was staying in Shittim, the men began to indulge in sexual immoralitywith Moabite women, who invited them to the sacrifices to their gods. The people ate the sacrificial meal and bowed down before these gods. So Israel yoked themselves tothe Baal of Peor. And the LORD’s anger burned against them.

The LORD said to Moses, “Take all the leaders of these people, kill them and expose them in broad daylight before the LORD, so that the LORD’s fierce anger may turn away from Israel.”

So Moses said to Israel’s judges, “Each of you must put to death those of your people who have yoked themselves to the Baal of Peor” (Numbers 25: 1-5).

And here is a nice example of valuing life:

Suppose you hear in one of the towns the LORD your God is giving you that some worthless rabble among you have led their fellow citizens astray by encouraging them to worship foreign gods. In such cases, you must examine the facts carefully. If you find it is true and can prove that such a detestable act has occurred among you, you must attack that town and completely destroy all its inhabitants, as well as all the livestock. Then you must pile all the plunder in the middle of the street and burn it. Put the entire town to the torch as a burnt offering to the LORD your God. That town must remain a ruin forever; it may never be rebuilt. Keep none of the plunder that has been set apart for destruction. Then the LORD will turn from his fierce anger and be merciful to you. He will have compassion on you and make you a great nation, just as he solemnly promised your ancestors. “The LORD your God will be merciful only if you obey him and keep all the commands I am giving you today, doing what is pleasing to him.” (Deuteronomy 13:13-19)

Not only people – all people, men, women, children, and obviously then, unborn children – but animals as well. Dead. All of them. Kill for God by God’s command.

I am having a difficult time finding that value for human life Perkins spoke of.

On the other hand, I am having no difficulty at all in determining that Tony Perkins is a liar. Perkins speaks dishonestly of the “disdain for the rule of law promoted by the Obama administration” but his own disdain of Jesus’ will is the true sin here.

Let’s be clear: Tony Perkins is not a Christian. Not to put too fine a point upon it, but if the day ever came that Christians were rounded up, if they start “rolling out the boxcars” as Perkins tastelessly claims in comparing the non-persecution of Christians in the U.S. to the murder of millions of Jews in the Third Reich, Perkins would have nothing to worry about, because it will be fake Christians like him driving the trains.

  1. Ah hell those people cherry pick. They pick what they want to believe. I seriously doubt their god would want any of them around for any length of time.

  2. The closer they get to being able to do it to us, the more they screech like this. It’s a case of premature self-justification.

  3. Well, if the Obama administration starts rounding up these RWNJ’s and they need some help they can call me. I’d be glad to help.

  4. There is a big difference between having “Christian” values and having Christ’s values.

The former are “I call myself a Christian and my values are obviously right”. The latter are “I read the Bible and learn from Christ’s example” to make myself and my world better.

  5. I once heard John Fugelstang talking about the
brown skinned communist community organizer who wanted to feed the poor and cure the sick
etc, the rethugs thought it was Obama, Fuglestang said no it is Jesus. I forget the whole content but it was brilliant, wonder if anyone else heard it.

  6. Oh for goodness sake.

You can’t walk a block in this country without getting hit with a Bible and stepping on a church.

The only thing they are mad about is not being able to IMPOSE their religion on someone else. Well, our country was founded on law not religion and if they read the Constitution they would discover that allowing people to practice their religion is just fine – BUT YOU CAN’T IMPOSE IT ON ANOTHER.

    THAT’S what their problem is.

  7. “Convert or die.” That is how christianity spread thoughout its history. So it is engrained in their behaviour to impose their beliefs on other people. Thus the framers of the constitution mandated separation of church and state. To protect people of all faiths from the religious persecutions that caused them to emigrate to the new world.

The Hobby Lobby decision has now made christianity a sanctioned religion in violation of the first amendment. Are we to see more of the christian hooks buried into our government? The teabaggers would lobve that.

  8. Mr. Perkins:

About the only people who are hostile or “aggressive” are those affiliated with your ilk, you know the captains. You have truly brought shame upon the very gospel you supposedly represent.

“Many will come to me in that day, and say, ‘Lord, Lord, we have done many wonderful works, we healed the sick, performing miracles, and I will say to them, ‘Depart from me, ye workers of iniquity.'”

  9. Maybe he’s right and we’re heading for the “end times”. Weren’t we warned to beware of false prophets? If false prophets could fly, Tony Perkins would be squadron leader.

  10. Brother Perkins is making a very nice salary spouting his hateful nonsense. There is big money in religion.

  11. Growing up with my bible-bearing parents wasn’t that easy but I do love them. They know I’m a Liberal with bit of pagan in me.

Deuteronomy is warmongering bible, promote more violence than entire Qu’Ran, Buddha, Protestant, and Church of England books combined. Deuteronomy wasn’t even written by Moses as many claimed. The group of old angry white boy-loving men were the ones who wrote it together to promote the crusade against Muslims and Pagans. Tom Perkins’ promotion of Deuteronomy sure show his true face.

  12. Perkins and his ilk are also not christians in that they use the Old Testament as the basis of most of their arguments. Jesus was most dangerous because he broke so many of the inflexible Judaic laws. he associated with prostitutes; he touched the unclean (lepers); he treated women equal to men; etc., etc., etc. he was everything that the rabbis of his time claimed heretical. his message, as the article states, was acceptance and love of ALL.

Perkins & his people then bolster their arguments with Pauline theology. Saul of Tarsus, as did Jesus, broke with a lot of other Judaic laws – circumcision, gentiles, etc. Saul was almost hyper-critical of Judaism of his day. though he held a special place for the Children of Israel, he knocked down their claim of moral and lineal superiority.

I have long believed that is Jesus were alive today, the last think he would want to be is a christian

  13. Why do people listen to morons like this? This man is the true spirit of the antichrist. I understand believing in certain things but times change and we have to too. Should we just ignore poor, gay, minorities so we dont step on the toes of so called Christians?

  14. Bill: There is big money in hypocrisy and hatred and grifting by appealing to the fear-hate combo in the mid-brain. We all have that, but some of us for some reason (well) seem to manage overriding those parts with the reasoning cerebral parts.

All these christo-fascist-dominionist types use everything that happens or doesn’t happen for a money beg.

P.S. Yes, I know that political money begs do the same sort of thing: “Someone said something frightening to some infotainment entity and these ten horrid things will happen to you if you don’t contribute ___$$$ to ******’s campaign.”

  15. Joan….Yes I also heard him say that quite a few times, and you’re right, it is terrific. I believe he also mentions that Jesus was not a Christian, was homeless and reprimanded rich people. I’ll try to locate it and post it here.

  16. I see John a lot on the Ed show but have you seen the clip of him and an atheist comedian together on U-tube ? Great !!!!!

  17. The Bible says we were born into SIN. Some people just never grew up. They remain in the “ego” stage of development. NONONO, stamp their feet, and scream to get their way.

These are not true Christians of the New Testament, they are written as ‘carnal’ (of the flesh) not godly.

  18. Christianity and Islam mandate adherents convert others, which leads directly to lying hatred war and killing, please consult with history and the hate and wars of today. These are the natural outcomes of trying to instill values of non-existent supernatural beings, especially when they conflict with those of other non-existent supernatural beings. It might be noted that these outcomes, hatred wars and killing are precisely the values of satan, so that religions that demand conversions produce outcomes that are the tools of satan. Of course satan too is a non-existent supernatural being. I’m beginning to think religion is a virus, existing to keep men from greatness, existing to prevent men from being a bigger part of the universe. It is a disease, causing us to hate the gays, hate the atheist, hate the blacks, hate anything that elevates your gods to power. That is not speculation, it is fact, culled from fact. People like the midget perkins is merely one of hate’s minions.

  19. It is amazing how so many non-christians know so much about the Bible. If you do believe the things that God has done and use these examples then you had better get on God’s side.

  20. Perkins has put out a new book upon which he bases his religious beliefs its called a Billbo; it removes all the nice stuff jesus user to do for poor people and says they are poor or even lower middle class because god wants them to be.

  21. Did it ever occur to you that they’re non-christians precisely BECAUSE they’ve read and know what’s in that little hatefest book?

  22. If Christians were being rounded up and persecuted, Perkins would be quivering in his ‘hidey hole’. (“Take them, not me…!)

  23. Have you seen the reconstruction of what Jesus probably looked like? He probably looked a lot more like President Obama than Tony Perkins.
