According to Larry Pratt, Liberals Do Not Live in Fact-Based World

Larry Pratt2
So crazy met crazy yesterday and, well, talked about crazy stuff. Pretty much describes any two points in the Right Wing narrative today, doesn’t it? Specifically, Larry Pratt, president of Gun Owners of America, appeared on Gordon Klingenschmitt’s “Pray in Jesus’ Name” yesterday and called liberals not only “insane zealots” but unmoored from our shared reality.

Yes, they said that. Yes, this was Pratt saying this to Klingenschmitt, a man infamous for his own unmoored status. A man so for distant from our shared reality that even other Colorado Republicans want nothing to do with him, lest they be tainted by association.

Speaking of “insane zealots” unmoored from our shared reality, this is the same Gordon Klingenschmitt who,

Yes, THAT Gordon Klingenschmitt. But WE are the ones, Pratt says, who are unmoored from reality and who do not live in a fact-based world.

Did Pratt even NOTICE who’s show he was on?

As I said when I connected the dots above, crazy, crazy, crazy.

Check it out courtesy of Right Wing Watch:

Specifically, Pratt was attempting to prove that “gun-free zones” are not safe, and that liberals are basically shooting themselves in the foot by wanting to enforce gun controls. Our liberal “feelings” get in the way.

Their feelings are so intense that the string of mass murder after mass murder in gun-free zones just doesn’t seem to shake them off that conviction.

He tells us that “feeling safe is not the same as actually being safe.” Well thank you for that, Mr. Pratt. I can tell you that we are not just not feeling safe with all you gun noting nutjobs walking around, but that we are not safe.

Right, because nobody EVER gets shot in areas where people are free to tote guns around.

As if to prove my point, Pratt went on to explain,

We live in a rather different universe from those who support gun control. And just to repeat, the facts just don’t seem to ever get under their skin. I guess it’s the definition of a zealot that no matter how many times he fails at doing something, he knows that if he does it one more time the same way, he’s going to succeed. That’s otherwise known as the definition of a crazy person.

Well, he’s right about living in different universes, at any rate. And no, knowing an Einstein quote doesn’t make you sane.

Neither does wanting to eliminate all gun control laws:

We want to see gun control legislation taken off the books. We think ‘shall not be infringed’ means shall not be infringed, period! No other discussion is permitted by that language.

Oh you want to talk Second Amendment, Mr. Pratt?

The Second Amendment states:

A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.

I don’t see a well-regulated militia. I see a rabble of illiterate beer-bellied white supremacists. If we’re going to pick on any part of the amendment, let’s pick on ALL of it.

One last thing to keep min mind. This is the same Gordon Klingenschmitt who previously railed against we mere mortals “adding to God’s law.” At the time, railing against LGBT rights, the disgraced former Navy chaplain cited Deuteronomy 12:32, which says (AKJV):

What thing soever I command you, observe to do it: you shall not add thereto nor diminish from it.

That’s why, he says, “America’s law needs to reflect God’s law. Because otherwise American law is telling some people, ‘Oh this is really legal’ when it’s actually illegal under God’s law.”

So, what you’re saying then, Gordo (can I call you ‘Gordo’?) – and I’m just going to run this up the flagpole and you tell me if I’m right – is that we ought to do away with man’s law.

Of course, that includes the Second Amendment, because it’s not God’s law. I mean, it was ratified by Congress, not by God. And it’s not in the Bible.

Falling back on God’s law – and I’m just flipping through my trusty Bible here – I don’t see any of God’s laws allowing ownership of guns.

Oh dear. Oh, OH dear!

I’m sure that wasn’t intentional.

Can I get a “My bad!” from God?

Sorry, Mr. Pratt. According to Klingenschmitt’s own logic, you can’t own any guns at all, because the Second Amendment is “man’s” law and not “God’s law” and therefore irrelevant.

I have to say, although he’s not my god, that I think this is one your god got right. If you want guns, you’re going to have to depend on man’s law, and man’s law says gun ownership is dependent upon a well-ordered militia.

These days, we call that the National Guard.

  1. No… Liberals live in a fact based world. In fact, the more you learn about certain things, the better you understand the problem and the better solution that can be found.

This neanderthal, on the other hand, is a prime example of what happens when you avoid the facts. When you avoid facts and believe in some mystical mumbo-jumbo, then you lose all sense of being.

  2. There is a huge difference between “I am a Christian, therefore my values are ‘Christian Values'”, and “I am a Christian, so I will read the Bible to find out what are the values of Jesus Christ, and will modify my values to learn from Him”.

  3. They had to do a study to figure that out? All I had to do was keep track of the Congressmen who bleat the most about the Bible, and wait for the affairs, lying and cheating to be exposed…not to mention Catholic priest who prey on children, my own Protestant minister who cheated on his wife and got kicked out right before he was supposed to officiate my wedding, and the religious wealthy like Robertson and Osteen, who preach Jesus’ words about giving to the poor and the rich not getting into Heaven, while racking up millions and millions of dollars, which, according to Pat, is theirs from God, and they have no need to pay taxes. I swear, if they ever cracked open the New Testament, they would either die of the vapors or become Democrats.

  4. My brother, who is an evangelical like my other siblings, asks me how I stay centered without religion. I told him that I don’t need to live under the threat of damnation and hell-fire to live a moral life, that my life is centered on reality and on treating people the way I want to be treated (golden rule).

If fundamentalist Christians would just try to live like their namesake, the world would be a much better place.

  5. I’ve been saying it for decades, “Divinely Inspired means Improperly Wired” And yes to comment above, We Democrats and Liberals ARE the ONLY Americans who live in a fact based world. These people have gone beyond our pity and must be removed from our fact based world. Remember when you take away the GUN all you have is a NUT!

  6. I love how conservatives like that just make blanket statements but never offer any evidence to back up their bold remarks. It’s like they think that their word is enough on it’s own or something. It’s completely delusional and narcissistic.

  7. I guess this is where we step back in time to the Magna Carta, but I think we all know that wouldn’t do any good. These people are all so far gone around the bend in trying to push their theology that nothing you tell him would matter. These are American terrorists. no matter what religion you are, you are not their religion. If you’re a fundamentalist Baptist, you are not a Christian in their mind. If you think that these people gain power that there will be some type of religious awakening, there will be. It will be forced and it will be armed. If you are a gun freak with a penis problem, you will be part of the problem once they are in power. You will not be allowed to be a threat, nor will you be allowed to run around with your gun slapped on your back. if you’re a white supremacist, you will probably be in good standing with these people.
You wont recognize their type of religion

  8. The Magna Carta was a deal cut between Barons and a King.

We need to go back to the 1880s in our own country – slave colonies of miners, casually murdered by hired ‘Men in Blue’ – Pinkerton’s Private Detective Agency. Children locked in factories 14 hours a day, women sewing by candlelight for pennies.

Sounds like today! Stop looking to a modified monarchy. ‘Communism’ is an economic theory, as is ‘Capitalism.’ ‘Socialism’ is a descriptor for the middle ground between the two.

Today’s history books censor the labor and housing riots common through WWII. “Big Labor” is seen as corrupt, ignoring big Businesses’ exploitation of disorganized workers.

  9. Watch this Pastor Silence this Right Wing Extremist
I’m not a religious person, but this guy showing up at Bowling Green State University to spew his right wing hatred is nonsense. One local Pastor, named Chris, happened to be walking by and here’s how he dealt with the situation..

“You’re job is not to tear down, but to raise up. You’re killin all these people out here. . . . Everyone here has a chance. They have hope. What you’re doin is you’re killin people. You can’t put them in hell. That’s not your job. So you can sit there and try to distort that word for your liking – what we do; we try to manipulate the word for our liking. . . Everyone in this place has grace and mercy. Even though this guy here feels like he doesn’t need the grace and mercy, he’s been where you been before.”

  10. Ok! Where to begin. First–I see nothing but insults and misinformation (lies??). People who own firearms are apparently to the last man or women, nuts! Huh?

So, if you actually manage to disarm all 100 million law-abiding citizens [imagine if just 3% rose up in arms at the attempt–many of that 3 million including law-enforcement, National Guard, Reserves, and Active Duty–all owning private arms as citizens and not as AGENTS of the state! That’s more than 58,000 per state and the district of Columbia. How would you stop THAT rebellion?] “Who will protect you from your protectors?”, as the wise man asked.
Then of course there are the criminals. Think you will disarm them? Police clean up messes, not prevent them and the US Supreme Court has said that the police are not responsible to protect individuals, but society and cannot be held accountable for failing to protect YOU! YOU are responsible to protect yourself–not the state!

Now, who are or what is the militia?..it is all of us!

Who are the militia? Are they not ourselves? …Their swords, and every other terrible implement of the soldier, are the birthright of an American…[T]he unlimited power of the sword is not in the hands of either the federal or state governments, but, where I trust in God it will ever remain, in the hands of the people. “ —Tenche Coxe, Feb. 20, 1788.

The National Guard are owned by Big Army people (I know I am in it) They are not the “unorganized militia as mentioned in the Second Amendment (2A)

Title 10, USC sec 311 defines the militia in 2 parts:

    (a) The militia of the United States consists of all able-bodied males at least 17 years of age and, except as provided in section 313 of title 32, under 45 years of age who are, or who have made a declaration of intention to become, citizens of the United States.

    Continued……

  12. Who is talking disarming? Arnt you a little paranoid? Or are you one of the people with a penis problem?

The people who are offensive and quite frankly nuts, are the open carry people, the people who want to arm children and people like yourself. the people who brag about having guns and then accidentally kill their children with them. You know the type

The odds of you ever using a gun to protect yourself are rare. The odds of you wanting your first kill are probably better. and the odds of you ever protect and anyone else with your gun are not likely. You are not a protector, you are more than likely a danger to your neighborhood and anyone around you

  13. Continued part 3 (see above)

    (a) The militia of the United States consists of all able-bodied males at least 17 years of age…declaration of intention to become, citizens of the United States and of female citizens of the United States who are members of the National Guard.
    (b) The classes of the militia are—
    (1) the organized militia, which consists of the National Guard and the Naval Militia; and
    (2) the unorganized militia, which consists of the members of the militia who are not members of the National Guard or the Naval Militia.

To regulate in 1787 had a very different primary meaning than it does in today’s world with statists wanting to control everything (except sexual matters, of course; That they use as anodyne)

    In 1787 it meant:

To adjust a mechanism for accurate and proper functioning.

To put or maintain in order.

So a well-regulated militia was simple on that could shoot well!

    Continued in part 4….

  14. Continued, part 4…

Our rights, protected under the Bill of rights are NATURAL, pre-existing rights. Repealing any or all of the Bill of Rights (BOR) does not remove our rights; it simply tells us the government is openly hostile toward those rights and now deserves to be overthrown as a tyranny–the very reason according to our founders’ writings (Federalist Papers) for the Second Amendment protection!

In fact, the preamble to the BOR (Bet you didn’t know it had its own preamble) says the reason for it is to restrict government.

    Continued.. in part 5

  15. Fundamentalism is a mental disease resembling sociopathy in many regards. Any “ism” that claims exemption from secular society by virtue of belief in a myth is dangerously toxic.

  16. Continued…part 5

And remember: Only natural born persons can exercise rights–rights that are not subject to the democratic process (you have no legitimate authority to abrogate any of my rights–even if the rest of you surrendered yours) and I will KILL anyone who tries to deprive me of any of my rights without due process–that is upon conviction of a felony or adjudicated in a court for incompetence.

And in the spirit of inalienable rights and the limited exceptions (due process)

any felon released deserves ALL his natural, pre-existing, inalienable rights back!

If you cannot trust that felon with a gun (he is violent; why are you releasing him to the general population–you are almost certainly sentencing some innocent to death. It is more civilized for society to kill the felon–for his greatest right–to his life is forfeit-able with appropriate due process.

Mental illness is no barrier to rights–want their guns?–prove them in a COURT of law a danger.

  17. Continued …part 6 and final.

Individual rights–not rights defined by legislation but natural rights: to life, liberty, property, and the ability to defend those, must be guarded. Being free is EXTREMELY hazardous. Evil people can do great evil in a free society. Prior restraint is an unacceptable solution as it deprives people of their choices. Punish evil-doers–and follow the Constitution when doing so. Respecting indiviudla rights means more than just soldiers will die–lots of innocent people too will die in a free society.

You need to decide the kind of society you want. Do you want to be free–or under the heavy hand of government. Those who love freedom follow John Locke, those that are statist: Thomas Hobbes.

The time for choosing is now!

    Qui tacet consentit
    Quis custodiet ipsos custodes?
    Corruptissima re publica plurimae leges.
Idque apud imperitos humanitas vocabatur, cum pars servitutis esset.

  18. Seriously? Just wondering if I am talking to an adult. I shot my first firearm in cub scouts. Been shooting since. Do you understand WHY an armed society is CRITICAL to individual liberty? If you see no connection between the two, this conversation is useless. the Second Amendment is not about sports or hunting and only peripherally about defense against criminals.

So open carry, absolutely! Concealed carry, absolutely, and you want to save children’s lives–train them!!!!!

Drown-proofing a child is more effective than child-proofing a pool and gun-proofing a child is better than child-proofing a gun. TRAIN, TRAIN, TRAIN–SAFETY, SAFETY, SAFETY. But gun control is not about crime-control. Neither is it about child safety. It is fear by the progressives (socialists and communists)of armed revolution against their freedom-stealing agenda.

And the unwashed masses who have been ruined by the education system infected by liberalism fall for it.

  19. We want to be free from gun nuts, people who think they are patriots and are actually not, oath keepers who think they are the law, people who think a revolution that gets everyone killed is good, people who would choke the government down to koch ownership.

People like you. People who have nop regard for the other 315 million people. You are a corporate shill without even knowing it

  20. No, there are no natural rights except the right to life liberty and freedom. The right to own guns someday will no longer be necessary.

  21. I hunted a good part of my life.

An armed society is a society that a few want to get the more killed off. Stop pretending you can stop the government. And stop copy and pasting garbage.

Guns should be the last right you ever think about. Life is the first. ANd guns do not = life.

Move along. Your pasted garbage is ridiculous

(socialists and communists) LOL, liberalism isnt the school system.

You dont even know what socialists and communists are. Never copy and paste things you dont understand. Freaking idiot

  22. “Repealing any or all of the Bill of Rights (BOR)…”

Placing restrictions on ownership isn’t “repealing” any or all of the Bill of Rights. Long-winded strawman argument.

  23. Anyone else notice the difference in the two quoted passages?

“(a) The militia of the United States consists of all able-bodied males at least 17 years of age and, except as provided in section 313 of title 32, under 45 years of age who are, or who have made a declaration of intention to become, citizens of the United States.”

“(a) The militia of the United States consists of all able-bodied males at least 17 years of age…declaration of intention to become …”

Why did he leave out “…under 45 years of age…” from the second iteration?

Oops. Busted. That blows a wide hole in his argument.

  24. “Ok! Where to begin. First–I see nothing but insults and misinformation (lies??).”

The lies came from you. Irony just bit you on your flabby posterior.

  25. So as we see from Sam’s inadvertent mistake in quoting the whole text, the Founding fathers did indeed put limitations on gun ownership, and it was never intended to extent to every American. We also see the lengths gun enthusiasts will go, including lying about the founders true intent, to make their fraudulent case for universal gun ownership. And if they’re willing to lie about that, they can’t really be considered “responsible” in any sense of the word. That he takes the name of a founding father, to make his case, shows they also don’t care about the reputations of the men they claim to respect. The real Sam Addams would chase this guy out of town with a horsewhip, if he knew he was being libeled in such a vile fashion.

  26. Here we have two people meeting on a religious venue and saying someone else does not “live in a reality-based world?” Does no one else see the irony in that?

  27. “Of course, that includes the Second Amendment, because it’s not God’s law. I mean, it was ratified by Congress, not by God.”

No, the Second Amendment, and the Constitution as a whole was not ratified by Congress. The Constitution was ratified by a vote in each state. Amendments to the Constitution are passed by Congress but are ratified by the states.

  28. Shiva wrote, “The Magna Carta is where the right to bear arms in our constitution comes from.”

What provision of the Magna Carta is the origin of the right to bear arms? There is no mention of the right to bear arms in the Magna Carta that I can find.

  29. Section 61 of the Magna Carta provided that if the King
(John) did not follow the provisions of the charter, the Barons
should have a right to correct the King by force until the King
should begin to follow the articles of the charter. 1″ Thus the
right of lawful revolution was born into the constitutional law
of England. This is of major import because without the right
to revolt there is less reason to preserve the right to bear arms.
This particular portion of the carta has been reaffirmed as were
the regulations concerning the bearing of arms and tenure by
    serjeanty. 14

  30. John, almost every law have (in the Constitution) comes from English or European common law. the Magna Carta also gives us part of our court system.

Prior to the Magna Carta, the common man was not allowed to have weapons lest he rise up against the feudal lords. They did not even have weapons to provide for their own food. One of the demands at the time of the Magna Carta was the ability to own weapons, back then which were a necessity of life. Unlike today

  31. You state: “No, there are no natural rights except the right to life liberty and freedom.”

And how does one actually preserve life, Liberty and freedom without the tools to do so?
Law enforcement has no duty to protect individuals:
“Law enforcement agencies and personnel have no duty to protect individuals from the criminal acts of others.” -Lynch vs North Carolina Department of Justice 1989

“There is no constitutional right to be protected by the state (or Federal) against being murdered by criminals or madmen. It is monstrous if the state fails to protect its residents against such predators but it does not violate the due process clause of the Fourteenth Amendment, or, we suppose, any other provision of the Constitution. The Constitution is a charter of negative liberties: it tells the state (gov’t) to let people alone; it does not require the federal government or the state to provide services, even so elementary a service as maintaining law and order”
