Seditious Republicans Spend Paid Vacation Instigating Rebellion Among Military Generals

Doug Lamborn

Tea Party Republican Congressman Doug Lamborn of Colorado is spending his seven week paid vacation “behind the scenes” urging military generals to resign in protest of President Obama’s policies.

This is very different from Allan West’s attempt to instigate a military rebellion via Facebook, as reported by Justin Baragona on Friday.  True, West and Lamborn rely on Tea Party mythology to rally dissent within the military.  However, as a former one-term Congressman, West is reduced to making his case on Facebook.  Lamborn is a sitting Congressman and a member of the House Armed Services Committee with all the power that comes with those positions.  He is also trying to incite rebellion at the highest levels of the military.

According to Cory Hutchins of, Lamborn admitted that he and unnamed others are asking Generals to quit the military  during a meeting with 50 Tea Party supporters in a bar basement on Tuesday night.

You can see Lamborn explain how quitting in protest would be going out in a blaze of glory in this video, from The Rachel Maddow Show.

One of the 50 people in attendance asked Lamborn and his congressional colleagues to “support the generals and troops in this country despite the fact that there is no leadership from the Muslim Brotherhood in the White House.”

A question based on crazy assumptions deserves and gets an equally crazy response from Lamborn.

You know what, I can’t add anything to that, but do let me reassure you on this. A lot of us are talking to the generals behind the scenes, saying, ‘Hey, if you disagree with the policy that the White House has given you, let’s have a resignation. You know, let’s have a public resignation, and state your protest, and go out in a blaze of glory… And I haven’t seen that very much, in fact I haven’t seen that at all in years.

Incidentally, top contributors to Lamborn’s campaign include Lockheed Martin and Koch Industries.

Lamborn is joined on the House Armed Services committee by 34 other Republicans,  including South Carolina’s Joe “you lie” Wilson, and birther, Mike Coffman also of Colorado.  Like Lamborn, Coffman counts Koch Industries among the top contributors to his re-election campaign.

It remains to be seen if and how many of Lamborn’s colleagues Congress are collaborators in the effort to get military generals to resign in what Lamborn calls “a blaze of glory.”

There is no glory, honor or patriotism in a lawmaker trying to instigate a rebellion in the military.  It’s also a rather odd way of showing support for the troops who are at war in 3 countries. Nothing could embolden our enemies more than to see lawmakers calling upon military generals to protest the Commander-In-Chief’s policies by resigning “in a blaze of glory”

As Irv Halton, a former Air Force General and Lamborn’s opponent in this year’s election, said in an email he sent to The Colorado Independent:

“Our elected officials should not be encouraging our military leaders to resign when they have a disagreement over policy. Congressman Lamborn’s statement shows his immaturity and lack of understanding of the American armed forces. Someone who serves on the House Armed Services Committee should know better.”

Lamborn’s actions are not only inappropriate but a betrayal to the United States and the troops Republicans use as props during photo ops.  This is especially striking when you consider the right wing meltdown over President Obama’s latte salute.

Unlike Lamborn, our military understands the meaning of honor and patriotism.  Moreover, they have a greater understanding of what it means to act in the best interest of the country and finally, they know who is designated with the authority to set policy.

Even when General Patreus openly criticized our policies in Afghanistan, he refused to resign.  It’s worth remembering what he had to say on the subject.

I don’t think quitting would serve our country. More likely to create a crisis. And, I told POTUS I’d support his ultimate decision. Besides, the troops can’t quit. . . .

Republican members of Congress chose to run away for a seven-week paid vacation.  Some of the Koch Brothers’ men chose to “debate” policy on ISIS at the clown car summit (aka The “Values” Summit”) because it’s much easier to complain and criticize on the sidelines instead of taking responsibility by debating and voting one way or another in Congress.

The Republican Party is proving repeatedly it is not only the party of stupid and xenophobia; it is the party of the sedition that was bought and paid for by Charles and David Koch

  1. These idiots of the Repiggery need to be charged with sedition. At the very least, they should be disallowed to hold any public office.

    Treason is a crime.

  2. Going along with the questioner about the Muslim Brotherhood in the White House was pure rightwing hatred. Leadership ability or patriotism, this dufus has none of either.

  3. Their behavior is not only inappropriate, it’s illegal under 18 U.S. Code § 2387, which says the following:

    (a) Whoever, with intent to interfere with, impair, or influence the loyalty, morale, or discipline of the military or naval forces of the United States:
    (1) advises, counsels, urges, or in any manner causes or attempts to cause insubordination, disloyalty, mutiny, or refusal of duty by any member of the military or naval forces of the United States; or

    (2) distributes or attempts to distribute any written or printed matter which advises, counsels, or urges insubordination, disloyalty, mutiny, or refusal of duty by any member of the military or naval forces of the United States—

Shall be fined under this title or imprisoned not more than ten years, or both, and shall be ineligible for employment by the United States or any department or agency thereof, for the five years next following his conviction.

  4. I guess these idiots want these men to face a court martial. That’s what is going to happen if they listen to these lunatics!
All the hard work will be thrown away. Besides, if they had a problem with having a black Commander-n-Chief, they could have retired.

  5. It is getting worrisome when a member of the ARMED SERVICES COMMITTEE presents this kind of suggestion. In another era, he , Doug Lamborn, would have been REMOVED from his position and hauled of to Leavenworth in shackles. Then placed against a wall, offered a last meal or cigarette…then (Use your imagination). NEXT, would have been Allen West. My only suggestion right now is to WATCH these folks. Monitor their phones and Twitter accounts—I think that they must be working for ISIS. This is NOT an American thought process. Hmmmm. Watch these dudes. BTW I think that they fit the profile of potential Presidential assasinators. Period! Bad vibes I get from these two. WATCH ‘EM!

  6. This is another example as to why we DON’T want or need to have Crazy, Psycho Republicans embedded in our Government, falsely claiming that they are Patriotic. BS! These guys are Insurgents, and would gladly join forces with Militants and Neo-Nazis, and all the other groups who are Anti-Government. The FBI should have them on a WATCH LIST. What IS it that motivates their insurgent minds? The Republicans, yes are for NO Government or Little Government, but this revelation is outstanding! And Revealing. They want Generals to abdicate their sworn duties to defend the USA, when they don’t agree with the President? !!! Our Founding Fathers must be rolling in their graves. Congressman Doug Lambrou of Colorado MUST BE REMOVED from service–NOW! Strip him of his membership on the HOUSE ARMED SERVICES COMMITTEE! QUICK! Before he does serious damage. The fifth column, comes to mind. Remember that? Communist infiltrators in the Government? Nazi Infiltrators? Okay. Same thing.

  7. Where are the democrats? He should be brought up on charges of treason activity plotting to overthrowing our government.. Where the Ethic committee, their need to be a investigation..
    GOTV 2014

  8. “during a meeting with 50 Tea Party supporters in a bar basement”

Yes, thats where I would suspect to find any number of tea bags.

Lambrou gives what is expected from a tea bag who has no idea why he is in Washington.

  9. If anyone here has a democratic or sane republican congressperson, please email them or call them to demand this traitor be put on trial for what he is doing!

My congressman is useless and certainly
    would do nothing.

  10. PS, I just emailed Richard Burr and demanded that something be done, please folks do the same, it will take a lot of us
    complaining to get anything done.

  11. Sorry to disagree Shiva, he knows well why he is in Washington D.C. to do exactly what he is doing. spearhead a civil war!!

  12. Joan, Representative Walter Jones from North Carolina is actually on the House Armed Services Committee.

  13. Thank you William! And mind you the timing of this during the middle eastern terrorism crisis! Can you imagine this point in history how it will read during President Obama’s term?

  14. “The Republican Party is proving repeatedly it is not only the party of stupid and xenophobia;”

I don’t know exactly when it became the fashion to substitute the adjective “stupid” for the noun “stupidity”, but it’s really annoying, has long since lost any attention-getting effect it might have had once, and actually suggests stupidity and illiteracy on the part of those who continue to do it.

  15. I’m kinda wondering, when are the rest of our billionaire oligarchs going to get tired of the Kochs and kick their asses to the curb?

That’s assuming there are still a couple of them left who love their country, of course, and aren’t merely members of the international billionairati trash.

  16. I think a lot of our military commanders are more professional than this person is. They took an oath to serve the United States and that oath doesn’t say “unless I disagree with a President.”

This man should be taken aside by his, ahem, “leadership” and told to shut the hell up.

  17. Lamborn has an “interesting” record since being in the House. Amongst other things, he has referred to PBO as a “tarbaby”, has refused to attend a State of the Union address, and released classified information (allegedly thinking it was unclassified).

  18. but strangely not when Bush was in office and starting the Iraq war. I wonder why that is … hmmmm, maybe calling President Obama “tar baby” that time will give us some clues.

  19. These people have broken the law. It is the duty of all concerned people to arrest and prosicute these people. we don’t have a choice, it is the law.

  20. Remember The Patriot Act/Domestic Terrorism sign by President Bush 2001 and the US Congress??? Well this is what should be done to some of those in Congress, “treasonous acts against the United States and bringing down the US Government and the President of the United States…”
The Patriot Act, Domestic Terrorism, not just in other countries,.look it up ,the Congress just renewed it with their vote..apparently they forgot to read it..again…it well be their end of “obstructionist ,treasonous acts.” So go ahead “sue the President”. Remember he’s not running again.. Want to Shut down the United States Government again…you know who to vote for

  21. gop is a bunch of idiots those lawmakers should immeditately be arrested and locked up and charged with treason and when there convicted house those lawmakers with the most heinous vile lawbreakers

  22. Thanks for posting this. I live in Lamborns district(sigh)and I was disgusted to see this. He’s pandered to groups like this for years and it is past due for him to be gone. Colorado Springs only consolation is that none of his legislation ever passes. I just sent a letter to Lamborns office and a contribution to his competitor’s campaign.
