John Boehner Blocks Votes On Popular Bills But Accuses Obama Of Ignoring The American People

John Boehner refuses to hold votes on many bills that are popular, but the Speaker has accused President Obama of ignoring the American people by threatening to veto the Keystone XL pipeline bill.

Video:

Boehner said,

Tonight, the Senate has an important opportunity to send a bill to build the Keystone pipeline to the president’s desk. And let’s be clear about this: A Keystone pipeline veto would send the signal that this president has no interest in listening to the American people.

Vetoing an overwhelmingly popular bill would be a clear indication that he doesn’t care about the American peoples’ priorities. It would be [the] equivalent of calling the American people ‘stupid.’

A veto of Keystone XL would be the exact opposite of calling the American people stupid. An Obama veto would be an act of protection of the American people from the corporatist Republican agenda. The Keystone XL pipeline will not create permanent jobs. It will not aid America’s drive for energy independence. The oil is being shipped from Canada through the United States so that it can be sold to Asian countries. The American people get this nothing out of this deal, but the potential for higher gasoline prices in the Midwest . The oil belongs to the oil companies, not the United States. Keystone is a gift to Big Oil.

Speaker Boehner knows something about not listening to the American people. Boehner refuses to consider infrastructure bills, job creation bills; the Senate passed immigration bill, any legislation to raise the minimum wage, and the very popular enhanced background checks for gun purchases. House Republicans are experts at ignoring what the American people. The American people don’t want Obamacare repealed; yet Boehner has held nearly sixty voters to repeal the ACA.

If Keystone XL passes the Senate tonight, it is almost a certainty that Obama will veto the bill. The White House has already signaled that a veto is coming. When asked about the bill, White House Press Secretary Josh Earnest said, “But there have been previous proposals that I expect would be consistent with proposals that have been discussed overnight. And in evaluating those earlier proposals, we have indicated that the President’s senior advisors at the White House would recommend that he veto legislation like that. But we’ll — and that does continue to be our position.”

John Boehner is an expert in treating the American people like they’re stupid. He’s has been doing it for years with his pack of lies about the benefits of the Keystone XL pipeline.
