Things Get Worse For Republicans: Poll Finds 89% of Latinos Support Obama On Immigration

latinos support obama immigration executive order

Just when you thought that things couldn’t possibly get worse for the Republican Party as it implodes over immigration, a new poll has found that 89% of Latinos support President Obama’s immigration executive actions.

According to Buzzfeed News,

The poll found that 89% of Latino voters support Obama’s decision to give temporary legal status to nearly five million undocumented immigrants. That level of support surprised Latino Decisions co-founder Matt Barreto, who noted the figure is higher than initial support of the president’s 2012 Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program, which protected undocumented youth brought to the country as children from deportation and allowed them to receive work permits.

He said 85% of independents and 76% of Latinos who identify as Republicans support Obama’s move.

Altogether, 80% of voters and 60% of Latino Republicans don’t think the GOP should attempt to cut funding of his order.

Congressional Republicans are under an intense amount of pressure to stop President Obama’s executive actions on immigration. The problem is that Obama’s action is the most popular presidential decision among Latinos in recent memory. If Republicans try to defund the president’s executive orders or shut down the government over immigration, they will be taking a giant towards alienating Latino voters that they need in order to win presidential elections.

A move to defund Obama’s executive orders is likely to push Latino Republicans closer to the Democratic Party. There is nothing that Republicans can do in response to the president that will not come at a huge political cost. The only thing that House Republicans can do is to pass the Senate’s bipartisan immigration reform bill. However, even a vote on the bill will likely trigger an earthquake within the Republican Party that will divide congressional Republicans before they take over Congress.

`President Obama has Republicans completely pinned down. In other words, Boehner and McConnell are screwed. Any move is likely to trigger a political firestorm and a crisis. Since their white male conservative base is demanding action, doing nothing has been deemed the most unacceptable option of all.

Thanks to Obama, Republicans have been placed in a no win situation that may make it impossible for them to win the White House in 2016.

Barack Obama has managed to turn defeat into victory, and put on a clinic on how to reverse momentum by attacking your opponent’s greatest weakness. Latinos are standing with the president, which means that the immigration minefield just got a lot more treacherous for the Republican Party.

  1. The fact that one of the main loud voices against immigration amnesty is a Latino immigrant by the name of Ted Cruz must really piss them off even more.

  2. ” 76% of Latinos who identify as Republicans”

I pray that number is no bigger then 100. If not, they have to be very wealthy Latinos

I cannot imagine a single thing that a Latino has in common with todays republicans

  3. I’m not sure why this is bad news for Republicans. Latinos are not their base, RWNJ’S who worship guns, have long flown over the cuckoo’s nest, toothless, fake Christians full of hatred for everything that does not meet their rigid ideology is their base.
Republicans don’t care if over 50% of Americans approve of The AHA, they want to kill it because Obama implicated it. The black man in the White House had a successful launch of this healthcare system, so the GOP want to abolish it. What the public wants or likes is irrelevant

  4. PBO did not give them amnesty. That is what Reagan did for 3 million illegals in 1986. PBO has allowed some to stay in the country for now. It’s temporary until an immigration bill is passed and signed into law. See how nuts repubs all? They yell and scream about something that isn’t even what will happen.

  5. And those kind of numbers don’t bode well for a party that’s slowly dying off. Sure they won the midterms. But only 36% of the electorate showed up to vote. In 2016 being a presidential election, many many more will make it to the polls. And with 89% of Latinos favoring immigration action that Democrats support, it looks pretty grim for the GOP on a national level. Those numbers will only get worse for them in time, as each year more and more Latinos will turn 18 and hopefully get registered and cast their votes against the party that wants to deport them all.

  6. And this is the WHY GOP DOES NOT EVER WANT IMMIGRATION TO WORK. All this impeachment & suing nonsense? Is just that. The GOP is so blatantly full of crap that they show you on national TV what fricken LIARS they are. Except their racist constituents who love this kind of talk. People on the right need to wake up…people are suffering unnecessarily and your sitting there voting for these fools as they will take yours too…you will be living in this environment pretty soon. They have killed half the MIDDLE CLASS for their corporate masters. How much time before it gets to you? Hang on. January is coming. Your MIDDLE CLASS LIFESTYLE shall also too become non existent just like your other white counterparts. See, their hate affects ALL OF US…not just the Mexicans and Blacks. Keep that in mind when you vote them. They’re out to destroy minorities…in the process YOU too. at least Dems offer job opportunities fair income for all! And let us VOTE!!! AH’s!

  7. It’s bad news, Maxie, before Republicans need, at minimum, 40% of the Latino vote in order to win the White House.

  8. or blacks..but they have them on FOX ripping their race apart along with the FOX haters..really. Its incredible where they find those black folks who hate their own race! Racists blacks against blacks. Only FOX can do that.

  9. House negro against the field negro always have been that way
“Beware of those Negroes who receive as gifts master’s old shoes and coats, they cannot be trusted”
    Nat Turner,

  10. Of course, Ted Cruz is a Canadian-born child of a Cuban immigrant. The Cubans have always gotten a “get out of jail free” card when it comes to immigration…even illegal immigration. They’ve been able to come in without papers or a process…and have legal status once they touched one pinky on American soil. They have had all limitations in terms of national numbers lifted. Even legal immigrants from Central and South America have to fall within a “cap”. And they are fast-tracked to citizenship.

So in Cruz’s case it’s “do as I say…don’t do as my father did”.
