House Republicans Plan To Cave To Obama On Immigration Executive Orders

House Republicans have come up with a plan that caves to President Obama. Republicans plan on funding the government through September 2015, but only renewing funding for the immigration executive orders on a short term basis.

Politico reported,

The likely proposal would fund nearly the entire government through September 2015, but immigration enforcement related funding would be renewed on a short-term basis, according to several high-ranking GOP lawmakers and aides who described the plan as it stands now.

The strategy is designed to keep the government open, while satisfying the base, which is livid with President Back (sic) Obama for issuing an executive order that ends deportations for millions of undocumented immigrants.

Republican leaders have struggled to come up with a plan that would satisfy both goals — of keeping the government open, while allowing members to express their anger at Obama. GOP sources believe that keeping immigration funding on a short leash could be the answer.

In other words, Boehner’s plan is to give the president everything that he wants. The Republican hope seems to be that if they only fund the enforcement agencies in the short-term the Republican base will soon forget about it and move on to being angry about something else.

Boehner is betting on his own House Republicans being more afraid of a government shutdown than the wrath of the immigration haters in their own party. Speaker Boehner vowed that the House will act to stop the president’s executive orders on immigration.

Here’s a newsflash for the Speaker. His plan does the exact opposite. It looks like President Obama has outmaneuvered Speaker Boehner again. Boehner is putting a plan together that throws up the white flag of surrender but allows his caucus to let the country know that they are really mad about it.

It is an empty expression of anger that is designed to hide the fact that House Republicans are caving to the president again.

  1. It’s very difficult for our politicians to find common ground and work together when headlines use the word “cave” so much.

“Cave” means to give up and give in. And no elected official wants to be considered as weak.

Please use a better word that helps our government to work. Words like “cave” only serve to stir the pot.

  2. not to sound too cynical about it but isn’t that sort of thinking, that their base will forget about it because the next butterfly will divert their limited attention span, indicative of their own low opinion of their base?

  3. Republican politicians have low opinions of everyone except those who give them dollars. And probably them also.

  4. … President Back (sic) Obama …

Right leaning Politico misspelled the President’s name?

It was probably just a Freudian slip… They were trying to spell Barack but had Black in their subconscious.

  5. I don’t think it is very smart to use the word “cave”. It is provocative and they are easily provoked. It would be wiser to reward good behavior positively. Why not say, “thank you for acting like adults on this issue”.

  6. short changing enforcement is just dumb.

    What will it prove ?

The new Executive Action will be self funding just like DACA is self funding.

Republicans are ignorant . They have no clue how their own government is funded and how the money is doled out.

  7. Are there actually any ADULTS in the republican party? They act like grade school kids, bickering about EVERYTHING. Maybe they clean house, get rid of the alcoholic Boehner, the racists McConnell and Graham, and the still pissed he lost to a black man, McCain.

  8. McCain lost to Dubya, yet he did not slam him every chance he got. Back then he was not a regular feature on the Sunday gop propoganda shows, though. These clowns REALLY believe other countries want “democracy”? Not when it resembles the freak show we have in DC these days. Religious nuts and racists abound. Before McCain lost his election to Dubya, he was heard commenting about W “He is as dumb as a stump” Maybe he resents President Obama because he is highly intelligent, was not a legacy student at any college. He did not get where he is today by clinging to his father and grandfather’s bootstraps.

  9. WE want democracy. We misplaced it somehow, I’m sure it’s here somewhere, lift the couch cushions, it’s probably under there.

  10. All this bickering about nothing. Obamas proposal,is for more border security, and sending the bad buys home. The only rub, is what to do with millions of young people who were born here to illegal aliens( which makes the American Citizens), and what to do with the families of those kids who have been living here for years.
Deporting them would cost billions of dollars. The Republicans constantly scream about money, yet they seem to be willing to spend a lot of tax dollars on an idea, that seems to be foolish. Getting them to come forward and work on their own citizenship is a lot less costly. Though those people already pay taxes via their rents, and buying things, it would add them to the federal coffers.
