Republican Staffer Elizabeth Lauten Loses Her Job After Attacking Obama’s Daughters

Just hours after the hashtag #FireElizabethLauten trended on Twitter, Lauten is “resigning.” In other words, she lost her job.

Finally a Republican is called to task for their nasty attacks on the Obama girls. GOP staffer and former RNC media director Elizabeth Lauten, told NBC News via a phone interview Monday morning that her resignation was “in the works.”

Days after her scathing attack on the teenage daughters of President Obama went viral, Elizabeth Lauten, the communications director for Representative Steven Fincher (R-TN) resigned. Her resignation was confirmed by ABC News.

The hashtag campaign #FireElizabethLauten might have had some influence. She calls it “resigning,” but it’s the thing people do when they are about to be fired.

Lauten let her Obama Derangement Syndrome air publicly on Faceboook, writing:

“Dear Sasha and Malia, I get you’re both in those awful teen years, but you’re a part of the First Family, try showing a little class. At least respect the part you play. Then again your mother and father don’t respect their positions very much, or the nation for that matter, so I’m guessing you’re coming up a little short in the ‘good role model’ department. Nevertheless, stretch yourself. Rise to the occasion. Act like being in the White House matters to you. Dress like you deserve respect, not a spot at a bar. And certainly don’t make faces during televised public events.”

Ms. Lauten knows class, you see. Class is attacking exceptionally well behaved 13 and 16 year-old girls for acting like teenagers. Ms. Lauten’s behavior is a great example of the GOP double standard. In no world ever were Southern girls taught that it was okay to attack the President’s family in public. Oh, except now it’s okay, because of their inherent privilege over this particular president.

In the past they left this sort of dirty bomb work to the likes of Rush Limbaugh and Sarah Palin, post-loss-and-resignation. But now it’s trickled down into their official business and they obviously can’t contain it.

Not to worry, Republicans aren’t exactly taking credit for the nasty environment of hate they’ve built. The Republican National Committee is still playing the victim, saying in a statement quoted by NBC that they agreed that president’s children are off limits but the media coverage was over the top.

So that’s a “No” for personal responsibility and a “yes” for the highly worn GOP complex of victimhood and persecution. Republicans are always the victim if anyone calls them out on their behavior. That’s not “fair”. Yes, it’s not the Obama girls who are the real victims here, y’all. It’s the grown up who attacked her.

So the RNC believes that it’s the media’s fault that Elizabeth Lauten attacked the Obama girls, because if only the media hadn’t reported what she did, no one would know and as you all know from Bible class, if they don’t know about it, it’s totally okay to do.

Contrast that with President Obama’s affirmative and personal statement that the media needed to leave Sarah Palin’s family alone in 2008. One takes a courageous stand for what is right, and the other uses their own wrong-doing as an excuse to point fingers of blame at others while claiming to be persecuted.

What you’re seeing here is a teeny, tiny hole in the Republican bubble. Republicans are so hateful toward this president that they don’t realize just how unacceptable their words are outside of the GOP/Fox hate bubble. If anyone should understand the power of social media, it should have been someone who once served as the social director for the RNC and was working as the communications director for a sitting U.S. Congressman.

But maybe Lauten did understand it. She just didn’t realize that the public would frown upon the hate when directed at clearly innocent children. Some of us also frown on such hatred being directed at adults who did nothing to earn it.

One down. Millions to go.
