Jon Stewart Scorches Rand Paul And Ted Cruz Over Their State Of The Union Responses

During Wednesday night’s broadcast of The Daily Show, host Jon Stewart took aim at the multiple Republican responses to this year’s State of the Union address. He poked fun at the insane number of Tea Party lawmakers who decided to offer up their own rebuttals, specifically highlighting Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY) and Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX), who shot videos of their own that competed with the official GOP response as well as the one arranged by the Tea Party.

Stewart decided to run through the responses in order to pick this year’s winner of the ‘Implody,’ an award given annually to the Republican who provides the worst speech. After highlighting past winners such as Sen. Marco Rubio (R-FL) and former Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-MN), he focused on this year’s nominees. First up, he reviewed the performance from this year’s official GOP response giver, Sen. Joni Ernst (R-IA). A clip of Ernst’s already infamous “bread bags” anecdote was played, followed by Stewart referring to her as Siri. Countering one reporter’s claim that Ernst was supposed to humanize the party with her speech, Stewart mimed a robot saying “mission accomplished.”

Moving on from Ernst’s speech, Stewart was shocked that there was an official Tea Party response considering Ernst is a “Tea Party darling.” The Daily Show host then played a clip of Rep. Curt Clawson (R-FL) giving his folksy rebuttal, focusing on his attempt to portray himself as someone who knows about diversity due to his college basketball career. Stewart figured that was it from the Tea Party. However, there was still more to come, as Paul delivered his response on his own YouTube channel.

A clip was aired of Paul complaining about “liberal elites” not wanting to understand small-town Americans but instead looking to “impose their wills” on them. This remark completely irritated Stewart and he called out Paul on his blatant hypocrisy when it comes to calling others “elite.”

“‘Liberal elites’? You’re a doctor and a senator, with a 12-term congressman father and a first name synonymous with a Russian novelist. That’s pretty f*cking elite. So I guess the smear here is ‘liberal.'”

After shredding Paul, Stewart once again figured we were done with the Tea Party responses. However, there was still the rebuttal shot by another potential 2016 Presidential candidate, Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX). The host exclaimed, “How many f*cking people are at this tea party?!?!” This was followed by a clip of Cruz screwing up his speech and asking to start over. Stewart then awarded the Implody to Cruz for airing a what looked like a “ransom video, or the part of the porno everyone fast forwards through.”

  1. Rand and Ted-2 Bozos waiting for the 2016 clown car to pick them up.
One bad thing about Obama’s election to President-now every freshman senator thinks he/she is Presidential material. 99% of the time, they’re not.

  2. No one does it better then Stewart. The right man at the right time. My generation had Dylan, peter Paul and Mary and the Kingston Trio. The previous generations had the Weavers, Pete Seeger, Woody Guthrie and others.

Its sad there are so very few artists telling the young people whats happening. Cruz, Paul Gohmert etc are here not for the nation but for personal recognition and as such are not helping America

  3. I guess if being a successful eye doctor who performs free eye surgeries for poor people makes you an elitist? I guess if worked hard and are successful that makes one an elitist then Jon Stewart is also an elitist and I’ll bet he’s worth alot more money than Rand Paul..Let’s see..in his speech Rand Paul calls for term limits, Talks about income inequality, ending militarization around the world and creating a strong national defense so we can restore our “Bill Of Rights”,Cutting everyone’s taxes as a stimulus to the economy, Cutting EVERY penny from corporate welfare, “Read The Bills Act”, Introduction of a Constitutional AMENDMENT that Congress shall pass NO law that exempts themselves, AUDIT of Pentagon…https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=czsKW6EqypY

  4. When you want to get the news without Republican or corporate bias, you tune into The Daily Show with Jon Stewart. Main Stream Media is corporately owned and now is all for sensationalism with a right wing tilt and then you have Fox “News” which is nothing more than a Republican propaganda outlet that wouldn’t and couldn’t tell the truth if they were held at gun point to do so. Thank you Comedy Central for Jon Stewart.

  5. If this is a preview of the upcoming 2016 election, we should be in for a barrel of laughs. Is there no Republican out there that can actually put a sentence together and make sense?

  6. To make the next SOTU address not just another boring recitation of the president’s successes and failures, since it’s his last annual address, he should punk all these republicans who want to add their self-serving voices to the political dialog. Just days before the next SOTU, have Obama’s aides leak to republican congressional staffers news of some bold (and entirely fictitious, but don’t tell them that) new policy initiatives that Obama plans to announce to yet again out-maneuver republicans on some societal/cultural issue, to see who bites, and is then stuck on camera with stale talking points about something the president never actually proposed. I think Cruz would try to wing it, on air. Comedy explosion!

  7. How many of those ideas has Ayn Rand Paul introduced in bills rather than running around the country with his incoherent and ever changing ramblings?

  8. Ran Paul didn’t need to call anyone an elitist. That was the point. He isn’t dirt poor and seems to be doing well for himself. Stewart was just pointing this out not saying it as an insult or like it is a bad thing. If Ran Paul or any conservative ever hopes to win the presidential election without cheating or changing the map they need to reach out to liberals and all races and classes. Stop the attacks and the childish name calling.

  9. Agreed. Wouldn’t be surprised to see either rightwing senator make the rounds to include the dailyshow. After all, they’ve probably seen far more intense criticism from their own side of the isle.

  10. You don’t need to be certified to do surgeries and your lack of understanding on what a certification is makes it obvious you haven’t researched the topic.

Rand Paul has a medical degree and owned his MCATS testing. Please educate yourself because you look like an ignorant elite, like the one he describes in the videos.

  11. How about all of them.

-“I co-sponsored S.J. Res.1, along with my colleague, Senator David Vitter (La.). This joint resolution calls for a constitutional amendment which would place a limit on the amount of time a Member of the U.S. House or Senate may serve in office to a maximum of 12 years per chamber.”

-“Sen. Rand Paul today introduced S.1663, Write the Laws Act, S.1664, One Subject at a Time Act, and S.1665, Read the Bills Act. These pieces of legislation will restore the Constitutional principle of separation of powers, end the practice of including more than one subject in a single bill, and preserve the Constitutional authority of Congress.”

-” U.S. Sens. Rand Paul (R-KY) and Cory Booker (D-NJ) today introduced sweeping legislation to reform the nation’s broken criminal justice system, which has grown increasingly costly over the past four decades.”

Need I go on? Do you even research this stuff or just spout off mindless drivel?

  12. Jon Stewart is a douche. Half the time he makes political points, they’re only kinda of good and the sheep in the crowd go crazy for it (no matter what he says). This (applause after literally anything he says) creates a false reinforcement that what he’s saying is true or correct (when, again, many times it isn’t). I’m pretty sure that he could tell the audience to go fuck themselves and they’d still go crazy with applause. And the headline at the top of this article about him “scorching” Rand Paul is also total bullshit. If you happen to watch the commentary the article is referring to, then what clearly happened was that Stewart couldn’t critique anything Paul actually addressed politically…so he attacked his character instead saying he was an “elitist.” It’s a shame when peoples’ political ideology becomes a religion to them and they can no longer use rational thought and discernment in an effective way (especially when it comes to political issues). Those people are …

  13. Sounds like it’s your political ideology thats your religion. The only place where anyone would take Random Paul seriously is Kentucky. The people who voted for him are too dumb to know better. Oh, and don’t take it personally, but he’ll never come close to the presidency. His father will sink that ship way down deep. The country can sleep soundly. Amen.
