White House condemns Denmark shooting, calls it ‘deplorable’

RANCHO MIRAGE, Calif. (AP) — The United States is condemning a deadly shooting at a free-speech event in Copenhagen, calling it “deplorable.”

National Security Council spokeswoman Bernadette Meehan says U.S. officials are ready to help with the investigation and have been in touch with their Danish counterparts.

She offered condolences to loved ones of the lone man who was killed Saturday in what police are calling a terror attack. The shooting took place at a free-speech event that featured an artist who had caricatured the Prophet Muhammad.

The shooting came a month after extremists killed a dozen people at a satirical newspaper in Paris that had sparked Muslim outrage with its depictions of Muhammad.

  1. and in ten minutes the rw fascists will blame the prez, and create more war hysteria for the final crusade. the jesus nuts are just as bad as the muslim nuts.

  2. It makes me very sad. We spent a wonderful week in Copenhagen earlier last year. It is a beautiful city, with friendly and helpful people, many more bicycles that cars, great public transportation options, really good food and many interesting places to visit. It never occurred to me, while there, that such ugliness could appear there.

  3. al-Qaeda’s Feud with Denmark

The country is clearly in al-Qaeda’s sights, and not only because of the Jyllands Posten publication in 2007 of caricatures of the Prophet Muhammad. A Danish secret agent Morten Storm, went public with claims that he was key to tracking down Anwar al-Awlaki, the American-born propagandist for al-Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula (AQAP), based in Yemen. On the basis of Storm’s information, he says, the US were able to launch drone strikes against al-Awlaki and to kill him in September, 2011. AQAP therefore has a vendetta against Denmark. The country also supported the Bush invasion and occupation of Iraq, so that Daesh / ISIL sympathizers have an animus against it. The Danish air force is bombing the radicals in Iraq nowadays.

  4. The religious right wing fanatics in the USA are just as bad as the mid eastern religious muslim fanatics. All religious fundamentalist fanatics are equally dangerous. The only difference between them is their method of killing innocent people. The MUSLIM fanatics behead people and blow up places where there are lots of people and the Religious Right Wing GOP AMERICAN Non-Muslim fanatics bomb abortion clinics, Lynch minority group people who fight for voting rights, use machine guns to kill innocent school children and use their politicians to slam people into horrible economic deprivation by shipping their jobs overseas, and destroying their access to all forms of birth control in the name of their “Judeo-Christian” GOD so they will be slammed into horrible poverty which will lead to an EARLY GRAVE for their fellow POOR AMERICAN Citizens!

  5. You really like the word “slammed”. I think you’d be taken more seriously if you were to restrain yourself a bit while you’re “comparing” one group to another. Going off on a tangent halfway through really brought down your comment. Actually, as a result of that, I’m also pretty sure that you’re the definition of the word “bigot”. If all Muslims aren’t terrorists, then all GOPers aren’t fanatics either. Please apply your logic evenly, not selectively.
