A Day After Calling For The ACA’s Repeal, Ted Cruz Is Signing Up For Obamacare

A day after announcing his presidential campaign by calling for the repeal of the ACA, Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) admitted that he would be signing up for Obamacare.

CNN reported:

The newly announced Republican presidential candidate told CNN’s Dana Bash on Tuesday that he will sign up for health care coverage through the Affordable Care Act — a law he has been on a crusade to kill.

“We’ll be getting new health insurance, and we’ll presumably do it through my job with the Senate, and so we’ll be on the federal exchange with millions of others on the federal exchange,” Cruz said.

“What is problematic about Obamacare is that it is killing millions of jobs in this country and has killed millions of jobs,” Cruz said. “It has forced millions of people into part-time work. It has caused millions of people to lose their insurance, to lose their doctors and to face skyrocketing insurance premiums. That is unacceptable.”

Ted Cruz wants America know that he supports the health care part of Obamacare. What he opposes is an imaginary job-killing aspect of the ACA doesn’t exist. Cruz and other Republicans can offer up no data to prove their claim that Obamacare has killed millions of jobs. In fact, 2014 was the best year for jobs since 1999.

The real number of people who lost their health insurance was ten thousand, not millions as Cruz claimed. Health insurance premium growth is rising more slowly than expected,
not skyrocketing as Cruz stated.

Sen. Cruz can’t lie his way out of the delicious irony that one day after he vowed to get rid of Obamacare, he now has to sign up for it.

  • Cons are claiming he's doing this so he can prove how bad Obamacare is. As if! He wants the better plans and rates from private insurance providers on the exchange. Otherwise, why not go shop for a private plan outside the exchange? What an absolute hypocrite.

    • Yeah, I've seen comments by right-wingers saying the same thing. I looked at an article and he said he is getting it because his wife has taken an unpaid leave of absence and he needs the health insurance, he knows if he bought it off the exchange it will cost a lot less than on the open market. Republican politicians, hypocrites, one an all.

      • While the irony doesn't get any better - or the Schadenfreude any sweeter - the actual reason old Ted "The Derp Is Strong With This One" Cruz is signing up for ObamaCare is because he has to.

You're right that he lost his plush health insurance from Goldman Sachs when his wife left her cushy job at Goldman Sachs. That forced him to sign up for ObamaCare at an exchange because ...

Federal lawmakers and their staffers are required to enroll in these Obamacare plans, thanks to an amendment sponsored by Repubican Sen. Chuck Grassley.

AND he's going to take the generous ObamaCare Subsidy because "We will follow the text of the law."

      • Of course you are clueless. He is buying an ACA approved policy since that is the only kind of major medical you can buy now. He will get no subsidy and will pay way more than he would have paid for a policy pre-ACA with the same benefits. Democrats really prove what a clueless lot you are when they spout this stuff about him getting a subsidy.

        • You are so f*cking stupid you need to STFU. YOU CAN BUY ANY INSURANCE YOU WANT TO if that's your choice. Now get off the computer before you spread your idiot virus

  • Well Ted I strongly suggest you use the benefits of the ACA and get some psychiatric help!...that is before you repeal the law that is helping you....

  • hahhaaaa

    He is a complete fraud.

Of course Dana Bash sat there and did not challenge any of the lies he told.

    She is also a fraud.

  • How is it that he's allowed to sign up for it now, anyway? Open enrollment period (another BS thing favoring not us, the consumers, but the jerk insurance companies we're forced to do business with) ended back in mid February, so, how is it that he's just going to simply sign up now?

    • He can sign up now because a change occurred in his family. I read today that his wife quit her job at Goldman Sachs to help run his presidential campaign. Obamacare permits you to sign up at any time during a year if something like a marriage, divorce, or a job change occurs.

      • You hit the nail on the head. Even someone as obtuse as Cruz realizes that to go without health insurance is best described as insanity. No one knows what may happen tomorrow, so it is best to be protected.
Losing a gold plated policy means that another policy has to be there to take its place. The PPACA does just that.
Let's not accuse Cruz of being a hypocrite, but ask him why economically, the PPACA is not best for everyone.

    • One of the exceptions to the ACA is if your insurance was through your spouse and they leave the job you can buy your insurance throguh the exchange any time.A time outside of the open enrollment period during which you and your family have a right to sign up for health coverage. In the Marketplace, you qualify for a special enrollment period 60 days following certain life events that involve a change in family status (for example, marriage or birth of a child) or loss of other health coverage. Job-based plans must provide a special enrollment period of 30 days.

  • Come on, Ted...you "don't have to sign up for it and you don't have to have health insurance. Just pay the minor fine and go without coverage as a roll model for the millions you are so eager to put in similar circumstances of living without it.

Remember what you said at CPAC just a few weeks ago about prayer being the best health insurance policy there is?

“There would be less cancer, less disease, and aids and diabetes in this country if people would simply pray. God blesses the righteous with good health and curses the immoral with sickness.” Come on, Ted....put your health where your holyier-than-thou bullshit preaching is and pray your way to good health.

  • Mmm... irony.

It's so damn funny that yesterday, he rants and raves like the loon that he is about wanting to get rid of the ACA, then a day later he signs up for it.

I'll be expecting the 'sellout' comments coming very soon.

  • “There would be less cancer, less disease, and aids and diabetes in this country if people would simply pray. God blesses the righteous with good health and curses the immoral with sickness.” t cruz @ cpac 2015

Come on, Ted....man up and stand for your principles. You don't need health insurance. Just pay the minor fine and stand up to Obama's big lie by praying your way to good health. You'd be a great role model for the millions of Americans you're trying so very hard to put in the same position. Be a leader and show the people how to live healthy lives without the onerous burden of government mandated health insurance.

    • I have looked all over trying to find exactly when he said this quote and cannot find it...I believe it sounds like him, but would like to hear it. Watched what I thought was the entire cpac speech and Q and A, but didn't hear it, also checked YouTube...can you please direct me to this quote?

      • I bet it's yet another fake quote posted by that 'satire' site on facebook, "Stop the world, the teabaggers want off"
