Republicans In Retreat As Conservatives Donated Millions To The Clinton Foundation

Republicans made a big deal out of George Stephanopoulos’s donations to the Clinton Foundation, but an examination of the list of donors reveals that conservatives have donated millions of dollars to the charitable organization.

An examination of the Clinton Foundation’s donations from media companies by Politico revealed that conservative media donated millions to the charity.

Newsmax Media was listed as a donor in the 1,000,000-$5,000,000 range. News Corporation Foundation, the arm of Fox News’s former parent company, has donated $500,000-$1,000,000. Conservative billionaire and Clinton political enemy, Richard Mellon-Scaife has donated $250,000-$500,000.

George Stephanopoulos should have disclosed his donations to the Clinton Foundation on the air, but if Republicans are hoping to parlay the ABC anchor’s mistake into a revival of a scandal involving the Foundation, they are going to be sorely disappointed.

The Republican attempt to turn the Clinton Foundation into some shady pay to play scandal was undercut by the fact that conservative media also donated to the organization. In fact, The Washington Post investigated the claims in Clinton Cash even though they also have given to the Foundation.

The idea that the Clinton Foundation can be turned into a major partisan scandal has been dealt a death blow. Fox News continues to try to build something out of nothing even though their former parent company has made large donations, and their owner’s liberal son (James Murdoch) has also donated millions of dollars.

There is no smoke, no fire, and no scandal. The Clinton Foundation is a non-partisan NGO, not a political organization. The Republican attempts to bring down a global charity for partisan political gain have been undone by their own conservatives.

  1. It’s still a pay to play scandal. What makes anyone think the Republicans won’t pay to play? This is about paying for access to the Clintons should they reach the White House. For a Republican this is called hedging your bet. When we get right down to it there is not a lot of difference between red and blue. Politicians want to gain power and hold power. Ideas based on party affiliation don’t mean squat. Oh yeah, the Clinton Foundation is a pay to play set-up. This article doesn’t disprove that; it proves it.

  2. There are hundreds of praises heaped on the Clintons over the years. Scaife thought she was quite remarkable when he interviewed her in 07, not too many years after he tried to destroy her husband.

Bill gave Mellon Scaifes eulogy last year – which was hysterical to those of us who remember and Bill paused and chuckled about it, too.

People who say “the Clintons work across the aisle” mean it. Bill would work along side the man who ran the right wing conspiracy against him.

I admire them for not being hypocrites to their Christian values of loving others including your enemies.

Lots of amazing projects, I have long been on the mailing list and get constant updates on the good works of the Foundation. I love the good news! Elephant poachers stopped due to guards, etc. Aids, Malaria, water, schools, food, Haiti, Indonesia, earthquake flood fire.

What did Bush do? KATRINA. One word says it all. We don’t forget.

  3. But yesterday you were claiming Steph was unethical because he didn’t disclose. Now you have another canard to play. You are a dumbass

  4. the rightwing desperation continues to increase. can you imagine next year? wow. this guy Robert must be a paid rightwing troll. when the trolls start showing up you know the desperation has hit a new level for the right.

  5. I don’t see the contradiction. George S. is unethical because he’s paying so maybe Hillary will give him a scoop in the future. He’s already apologized for it. Watch him Sunday. I bet he apologizes again.

  6. The Foundation has been around for 15 years or so. They gave lots of money when she was a Senator and Secretary of State.

    The scandal debunkers found nothing.

Quid pro quo – Senator from NY – a vote?

Secretary of State – the power to sign laws is with the WH not State and many committees had to approve things.

You think she was that powerful as an individual?

Go look at the mountains of information on the debunking lists and how absolutly ridiculous some of his amateur errors were. He tried to tie her to things when people didn’t even work for the companies when she was in office, etc.

And how dare you attack good works. Are you a Christian and spreading lies about good works? Fox is so holy and lies about Good works. Hannity helmet head is so pure and lies about good works. Shame.

They make enough in campaign donations and in speaking fees and book royalties for their efforts and hard work. They don’t need to steal.

  7. Seems to me there is a huge difference in red and blue Robert… Reds constantly vote for huge tax breaks for the wealthy to take that money offshore… Reds vote down benefits for vets all they while trying desperately to get us into another war..They vote down jobs bills and take food from the poor all the time working for the wealthy Huge difference. Maybe you should turn off Fox and watch a bit o cspan and see just who is voting for what . No reds and blues are NOT the same

  8. cboo, their talking points are different, that’s all. Look past red and blue and think about politicians. They do it in different ways, but almost all of them have one goal. Once they get elected: Get re-elected. Hold power and gain power.
I could throw all the Republican talking points back at you, but I won’t. It’s pointless.
When 51% of the population will vote for the party that promises them the most free stuff, the ball game is over. We’re almost there.

  9. Rin: The Clinton Foundation probably are doing good works. That’s what makes it so insidious. That’s what makes it so reprehensible. It hides the influence peddling under a smoke screen of virtuous acts. It’s pure Clinton.

  10. When 51% of the population will vote for the party that promises them the most free stuff, the ball game is over. We’re almost there.
When 1% are promise free shit then game over.

  11. “Some say that Robert beats his wife. Guess he’ll have to prove that he doesn’t.”

****and that’s the way the reichwing works — blame the person they hate, or the person who has the power they wish they themselves had, and make sure every reichwing talking head says it too. And I guess our troll Robert is one of them.

Hey Robert, you say you don’t beat your wife. When did you stop?

  12. Media Matters on the donations:

“Other media figures have similarly made the false political campaign comparison. Fox News host Gretchen Carlson,, National Review Online, and, all suggested a donation to the foundation was equivalent to financing Democratic candidates.”

    No it is not. OBVIOUSLY.

“The foundation is a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization, which means it is “absolutely prohibited from directly or indirectly participating in, or intervening in, any political campaign on behalf of (or in opposition to) any candidate for elective public office.”

And this one is for Bob, my buddy:

“judging by the way the foundation is now talked about — as if anyone who has had any association with it is tainted — you’d think it was running a network of international assassins instead of distributing malaria medication.”

  13. Tell me again why George Stephanopoulos apologized? Not black or white but shades of grey. Some contributor’s are innocent of anything shady. Some portion of the Foundation does good work. This is too subtle to be a crime. It’s just… very convenient for a lot of wealthy and movers and shakers to get noticed by the Clintons. The rain won’t stop, Billy.

  14. It’s OK so long as you’re a Republican.

    Typical Republican Double Standards.

    George?!!! OMFG!!!

My fellow spawn are donating too? Whatever.

  15. Does anyone know how to contact the Koch Global
Initiative? I’d like to find out more about their good

  16. Yes, you could throw GOP talking points back at us, but they’re just that: talking points. What cboo gave you were facts, and sadly for the country, that’s just a mere sampling of republican votes.

They also voted to give tax breaks to companies that move OUT of the country; voted to block incentives for companies that “re-shore” jobs back to the U.S.; GOP senators voted against equal pay for women; on the state level they’re supressing Voting Rights for people who historically vote democratic, even though facts/evidence show that voter fraud is virtually nonexistent.

As with cboo, these are only a few examples.

No, both parties are not the same. And as for half the country voting republican, attribute that in large part to gerrymandering and a conservative media. Yes, conservative.

In fact 2 million more people voted for dems the last cycle than for republicans.

  18. Number 1…They give their money back to the Clinton Foundation…unlike any repubs who don’t do anything good for the poor..and Number 2…CONservatives have donated to the Clinton Foundation!!!!….. Also no evidence of conflict in Clinton Foundation gifts….

  19. There it is! 9:14 am, squeezed in before the first commercial break: Stephanopoulos apologizes AGAIN for letting it slip he’s in the bag for Hillary.

“Right after this break: Why Hillary is the Obvious Choice for President.”

  20. This Week With G. S.? This is the land of the mainstream. This is how “average Americans” who care about politics get their news. I need to watch this, and Meet the Press, too. This is what the administration wants disseminated to the sheeple. They’re the ones voting. (Well, except for the morons out there who don’t listen to any media other than “Whack your Balls” on You Tube…)

  21. I have trouble following that. I don’t watch FOX news. I understand that much of their programming is editorial infotainment. Shepard Smith delivers the “news” as objectively as anyone.

Your post Moongrim, is not illuminating, or even insightful.

  22. Your post Moongrim, is not illuminating, or even insightful

And yet it’s insightful enough to garner your attention and your reply.

I apologise for imitating your game…

  23. The liberal brain. You show a report confirming issues with this foundation from the New York Times and 24 libs click no way. Yet they bust on Fox news while giving a pass to Brian Williams and George Snufalufagus.

  24. George is not actually in the bag for Hillary. I guess you missed 2008.

On the flip side, it seems you have no issue with everyone on Fox openly campaigning on the air for their dimwitted candidates.
