Rush Limbaugh’s Death Spiral Continues As He Gets Demoted To Low Rated Boston Station

The end is coming for both Rush Limbaugh and conservative talk radio as Limbaugh has seen his show demoted and shipped off to another low rated small station. Boston has become the latest city to send Limbaugh into a dark corner of the radio dial.

Eric Boehlert of Media Matters wrote:

The good news for Rush Limbaugh: One month after being notified he was getting dumped by his Boston talk radio host station, the talker has a new AM home in the city.

The bad news: The station currently boasts a 0.6 rating, trails four non-commercial stations in the market, and becomes yet another big-city, cellar-dwelling outpost that Limbaugh is forced to call home.

The station, WKOX, is the type of “bottom-rung” affiliate that Limbaugh was rarely associated with during his halcyon days as the king of talk radio. But those days seem to be dwindling as the Boston fall from grace has previously played out for Limbaugh in places like Los Angeles and Indianapolis. In each instance, Limbaugh exited a prosperous, longtime radio home and was forced to settle for an also-ran outlet with miniscule ratings.

The Sandra Fluke incident was the moment when it all started to fall apart. Activists mobilized and instead of protesting Limbaugh targeted his advertisers with a boycott. The strategy had been successfully previously used to get Fox News to yank Glenn Beck off of their channel, but unlike Beck, Limbaugh attacked a private citizen with such misogyny and hate that the public reaction was swift and severe.

Fortune 500 advertisers fled and never came back. Limbaugh’s expensive deal caused radio stations to lose money by airing his show. Stations are being forced to carry Limbaugh and are paying him for the privilege of watching their ratings drop while losing money. Limbaugh’s show has been demoted to low-rated stations in New York, Los Angeles, Indianapolis, and Boston.

Limbaugh’s decline offers a peek into what could be the future for Fox News. Limbaugh and Fox News both attract the oldest audiences in their respective mediums. Both have not been able to attract younger viewers to replace their older base audience. Limbaugh was once considered to be the most influential voice in the Republican Party, but he has quickly slid into irrelevance. The demographic problems that plague Limbaugh are also nipping at the heels of Fox.

Rush Limbaugh is in a media death spiral, and if Fox News can’t attract younger viewers, they are destined to follow in Limbaugh’s footsteps.

  1. One could only hope that they both fall off the face of the Earth. The only hope for Fox “News” is their low cut, short skirt bimbos. If you only want to look and not listen to what they say though, I’d advise you to look at a magazine instead.

  2. There will always be a market for hate.
    I suppose.

    Still,
it is nice to see it dwindling.

    The final frontier?
The demise of Hate’s primary engine:
    Institutionalized Religion.

  3. Rush Limbaugh is in a media death spiral

It couldn’t have happened to a more deserving individual.

I can’t help hearing “Dandy” Don Meredith crooning “Turn Out the Lights, The Party’s Over” in my head. [wink]

  4. As The fat one descends into obscurity, we will now see the rise of people like Anne Coulter and Malkin, spewing their brand of poison and hate. Its like the head of the Hydra, cut off one head and two more reappear.

  5. I found that in the 60’s when we boycotted tuna to stop them from using nets because dolphins were being caught in them. It worked, too.

  6. It’s great news. Any day that keeps sending “Crush Limbaugh” back to hell where he belongs, is a beautiful day. There’s a thin line between conservative talk and hate, so people are getting fed up with his pure evilness. I’m glad he’s reaping what he has been sowing.

  7. Let’s just hope this Hydra isnt as durable as the one from the Marvel movies. Although I think we can rest easy in the idea that nobody will probably want to save Limbaugh’s brain for posterity in a computer, no matter how much money he’s got.

  8. We can applaud his demise. But the fact that we allow something as destructive as Limbaugh and Fox News to dominate our airwaves with vile, hate filled, venom speaks volumes about us as a nation. They may be on their way out, but the 30 years of damage they’ve done to this nation is irreparable.

  9. I don’t think I was “Quick” to silence somebody with whom I disagree, as he has been delivering his message of division for 20 years now, if my memory is right.

  10. I love reading about Limpnuts, but black uncle Tom racists like Keith Jackson are up and coming, and we know as long as they spew right wing hate, the wingers will be more than happy. I mean they can then say ” I ain’t racist, I listen to one of them negroes on the radio every day”. Sorry people, but that is the way the wingnuts see him and Ben Carson, Herman Cain, Charles payne, and the goofy Bush guy with the glasses.

  11. Regardless of his politics this is pure liberal fantasy. Rush is by far, by FAR the most popular radio talk show host in America and there is no other show that even comes remotely close in ratings.. not even remotely. So you libs can celebrate all you want at a perceived diss, but none of it matters, he’s the King of Talk radio and reigns the airways.

  12. When his ratings fall to the subterranean level of, say, MSNBC, let me know. Until then just keep “a-wishin’ and a-hopin'” that conservative media dies away.

  13. That we “allow” Fox and Limbaugh? Shall we allow the Department of Justice and FCC to determine what voices and opinions are “acceptable”? Is YOUR judgment of acceptable opinion and news the standard we should live by?
