Republicans Shudder As Hillary Clinton Raises More Money Than Any Other Candidate in History

Hillary Clinton
Democratic 2016 presidential front-runner Secretary Hillary Rodham Clinton has set a record by raising more money than any other primary candidate’s first quarter in history.

Brett LoGiurato reported at Business Insider via MSN News:

Clinton is on track to raise more than $45 million in the April-June fundraising quarter, a Clinton campaign official said Wednesday. That would be more than any other primary candidate’s first quarter in history. At $41.9 million during its first quarter in 2011, President Barack Obama’s campaign held the previous record.

The Clinton campaign official said that 91% of the donations came from people giving $100 or less. Clinton, on Twitter, posted that she was “especially proud” of that figure.

It matters where the money is coming from, because Republicans primarily raise money from big donors and PACs with dark corporate money, whereas certain Democrats and Independents raise money from actual people.

That tweet linked to this one, which was getting all kinds of angry snark from conservatives and replies conservative journalists who were trying to find a hole in this stunning news:

Clinton has even hand-written thank you notes to her supporters:

As America’s Most Hated Donald Trump rockets to number two in the polls for Republicans, just under establishment favorite Jeb Bush, Republicans have to be terrified to see these figures. Republicans hope to make an issue of the liberal and independent force supporting Senator Bernie Sanders, but what they are ignoring is that Sanders is also raising money from individuals.

Taken together, what this means is the money from the people is going largely to candidates that actually support policies for the people. If this keeps up, Republicans have a lot to fear.

Hillary Clinton just blew past the record set by President Barack Obama in 2011, with small donations from actual voters. That’s a lot of voters.

  1. Cue the denunciations concerning how she’s “just like the Republicans” aka ‘beholden to Wall Street”…

    in…3…2…1…

  2. I’ve given to both of them, because I will support either. The GOP is terrified because the men have to get further and further right each day to get their names in the news and grab some cash. With 14 men vying for the millions, they can’t hope to come close to Hillary or Bernie. Too bad, so sad. Maybe if their egos were a bit smaller, some of them would stay in their states or in DC and actually do some WORK for the people. That would be a first, too.

  3. Repubs have got to be cringing with all this donald trump fallout news hurting their brand. Ha, they so deserve it!

  4. All the hate that the Reich Wing has poured upon the American people is going to rise up and choke them to a certain and deserved demise.

  5. We know that once a person has given money to a candidate he or she has a psychological investment which leads to stronger support. A lot of money from a few people does not create that psychological base of support. More people can stay on the fence when they are not needed for contributions. . . not what the Republicans want to hear.

  6. When it rains it pours, doesn’t it? If it weren’t for bad news for the GOP, they’d have no news at all

  7. Can someone who doesn’t think like you lunatics please post a rebuttal comment?
Why do you people just want others that think and act just like you to interact with??

  8. Can someone who doesn’t think like you lunatics please post a rebuttal comment?

Yes- you may. You have my permission.

Why do you people just want others that think and act just like you to interact with??

Because invariably- those who are not liberal tend to not have an honest opinion- all they do is just regurgitate what they’ve seen and heard on Pox News.

But if you happen to have an original thought- I’d be more than happy to hear it.

  9. “Hillary Clinton just blew past the record set by President Barack Obama in 2011, with small donations from actual voters. That’s a lot of voters.”

That last sentence is what matters… Big bucks through PACs from a handful of 3%ers doesn’t matter because there are only so many people from whom their money will buy votes. 90% of $45M/$100 = 405K, then figure there’s a ratio to how many will vote for her but not contribute (50 or 100 to 1?) which puts support back at 22.5M to 45M, which is a concern when about 127M people voted for president in 2012. Is funny. Rove has better estimates of variables, but the principle exists.

  10. Jeff, if by “lunatic” you mean liberal, I would like to point out to you the meaning of the word liberal (lunatic). According to my Webster’s Dictionary it means open minded and open handed. I looked it up years ago when someone literally spit out the accusation that I was nothing but a bleeding heart liberal, i.e. lunatic. From then on, I’ve worn my liberal open mind and heart badge with great pride. Now then, what exactly do you want us to rebut? You like bought and paid for politicians? You don’t believe Hillary has raised more money? Ok, well, whatever it is we can’t help you, but so glad you stopped by.

  11. God help this Country if Hillary ever makes it to President! it will be the end of prosperity! and start of God bless China.

  12. If you read the comments on Huffington Post and some of the other so-called Liberal sites the Bernie Sanders supporters sound alot like hysterical right wing Clinton haters. I saw this article on-line and I think Democrats better be careful with Bernie Sanders. Hillary Clinton may have a hard road beating a Republican but Bernie Sanders will not ever make it. The Republicans are going to play dirty and Bernie Sanders is the new Ralph Nader. Here is the link to the National Review article:

Does anyone else suspect some of the Huffpo and Daily Kos posters are perhaps Republicans?

  13. Even a President Bernie Sanders would NOT lead to America becoming anything like China or Communist! and there is little doubt Bernie is much more to the left than Hillary.

I’m a Bernie supporter all the way! However, if in the end Hillary gets the nod, I’ll vote for her. No way do I want any of those GOP clowns anywhere near the White House. If for any other reason, the potential picking of up to four Supreme Court justices!
