Republicans Crushed As Elizabeth Warren and Bernie Sanders Support Obama On Iran Deal

obama and congressional liberals kill corporate tax cuts

Republicans who are trying to stop President Obama’s Iran deal suffered an immediate crushing blow as influential Senate liberals Elizabeth Warren and Bernie Sanders both made statements supporting the President’s diplomatic efforts.

In a statement, Sen. Sanders said, “I congratulate President Obama, Secretary Kerry and the leaders of other major nations for producing a comprehensive agreement to prevent Iran from obtaining a nuclear weapon. This is a victory for diplomacy over saber-rattling and could keep the United States from being drawn into another never-ending war in the Middle East. I look forward to learning more about the complex details of this agreement to make sure that it is effective and strong.”

Sen. Warren tweeted a statement that focused on the need for diplomacy:

Liberals such as Bernie Sanders and Elizabeth Warren are highly influential in the Senate Democratic caucus. Senate Democrats have moved left since they lost the majority, and they are a much more liberal group. Sanders and Warren both echoed President Obama’s language about the choice on this deal being between war and peace. It is the liberals in Senate who will vote to sustain President Obama’s veto if the Senate passes a resolution of disapproval.

Some in the Beltway media, such as NBC’s Chuck “Wrong Way” Todd are trying to create drama by suggesting that Democrats could go against President Obama on this deal, but as long as Obama has the support of Senate liberals like Warren and Sanders along with the always influential Harry Reid, he will win and overcome Republican opposition to the international agreement that stops Iran’s nuclear weapons program.

As long as the liberals support President Obama, Republicans will suffer a crushing defeat as their quest for more war in the Middle East could be dealt a crippling blow by the power of diplomacy and the overwhelming desire for peace. Liberals have the power in this debate, and two of the biggest liberals in the Senate are signaling their support for President Obama.

  1. I cannot remember a recent time when the MSM has been more irresponsible by suggesting the Republicans can stop the Iran agreement. What is their agenda?

  2. The GOP are pandering to their financial backers, their reichwing base and their military industrial complex supporters. If in doubt, remember that Sen. Cotton met with weapons contractors immediately after sending that perfidious letter to Iran.
This is an agreement, NOT a treaty, and Congress has no say in accepting, or not accepting it. As per their usual behaviour, they are LYING. If the media were actually doing their jobs (oh, wouldn’t that be a breath of fresh air?!) they would stop the nonsense. But then, that wouldn’t be “news”, would it? I’m listening to NPR right now and the nonsense continues .

  3. Why are the GOP against the deal? Is it because the President is for it? If Obama invented a cure for Cancer, they’d be against that too, wouldn’t they?

As for Todd, he’s as clueless as all the other white, privileged. protestant males. Who cares what he thinks!?

  4. As Hillary said in a speech several years ago: “If Obama walked on water, the Republicans would say he couldn’t swim.”

  5. Would someone please change Cotten’s diaper.
And to all the 47 TRAITORS, sorry the war ya wanted
has been temporarily called off. Cheer up chumps,
there’s always Trump’s proposed invasion of Mexico.

  6. Off topic-

I have confess- that I’m just simply having a near orgasmic schadenfreude reading up on all of the Republican Sock Puppets coming onto Politicususa and doing their drive by commentary.

Like their corporate masters- they spout off with baseless invective and vitriol, and because they’re so easily schooled I have to restrain myself often from what I really want to say to them.

Take the Tez Crud vs NYT fiasco. What we have is a fine example of the NYT- acting just like Fox News has for years. And now that one of their own gets treated back the way Fox and company has been treating Obama and others, suddenly it’s the worst thing in the world since Cain.

I just wanted to extend to all you High Colonic Cleansing Conservatives- that I appreciate the belly laughs you’ve given me with your worthless logic and your hissy-cows, a hearty thank you.

  7. The Republicans were so WANTING to hear of a breakdown in the proceedings. They secretly (I am sure) hoped for a bad deal so that they could gloat. But they didn’t realize that our deal making experts were on hand and at their best, together with some sharp minds from China, Germany, Russia, France, the UK.
When representatives from your own country want you to fail, you know they are NOT to be trusted.

  8. The repug traitors should take another field trip to Israel so they can all cry on each other’s shoulders.

The only thing that they accomplished with their anti American letter and Bibi’s visit was to wake more Americans up to the problem of Israel’s interference in our government. People became invested and figured out that a multi country agreement with Iran was the best option and will not suffer these traitorous fools any longer.

Well done Mr. President and Secretary Kerry, and your teams, for showing the world diplomacy should always be the first option.

  9. Treason Incorporated… I mean the republicans are only interested in making a profit off of the deaths of our military personnel. They couldn’t care less about peace, America, and the American people. Calling them traitors is being kind.

  10. Moongrim, on a related note….I believe it was the President’s first year in office and as usual, right wing trolls were out in force on some matter on sites similar to this. In reading their nonsense something seemed off kilter, even for them. Their statements/outrages/screaming appeared disjointed and not in unison. Several other Progressives observed the same. Someone pointed out that Limbaugh was on vacation that week and the dittoheads didn’t have anyone from whom to take their marching orders du jour. (Excuse the fancy French, Jeb!).

  11. That is fascinating, Paul.
The Rugged Individuals who couldn’t function cohesively without their shepherd.

  12. It’s yet ANOTHER major feather in democratic president Obama’s hat, that’s why they hate it.

I can’t think of a major feather being placed on any republican president’s hat, can anyone?

  13. Conservatives are very insecure

    The Insecure American
“I am not, or not only, talking about right-wing contempt for the poor, although the dominance of compassionless conservatism is a sight to behold. According to the Pew Research Center, more than three-quarters of conservatives believe that the poor “have it easy” thanks to government benefits; only 1 in 7 believe that the poor “have hard lives.” And this attitude translates into policy. What we learn from the refusal of Republican-controlled states to expand Medicaid, even though the federal government would foot the bill, is that punishing the poor has become a goal in itself, one worth pursuing even if it hurts rather than helps state budgets.”

  14. The problem with Conservatives: They seldom have had to work for a living. I mean REALLY work for a living.
The kind of work that they’d starve if they didn’t, or have had to sleep in places with the possibility of getting frost bite if they weren’t careful.
They’ve never had to face the kind of conditions they want to subject others to.
And they wonder why I and so many of us- we, loathe them so.

Empathy? Who needs empathy when they’ve got money!

  15. Yes and no mention from the Right Wing, that this negotiation was by the six most powerful nations of the world and will be ratified by the UN.

GOP acts like Obama was working on this all by himself. The score: The world and world safety 1. The GOP and Tea Party, nothing.

  16. The Nazi made the same comparison with the Jews, homosexuals and anyone else who wasn’t a WHITE CHRISTIAN.
    They were ALL disposable animals.

I no longer practice my protestant unbringing, but this isn’t very Christian to starve people as if they’re animals.
How can they consider themselves to be HUMAN BEINGS?

  17. I gave you a thumbs up. I agree with your post except for one part. And this will explain a lot about his positions on everything. Chuck Todd is not a Protestant. He is Jewish.

  18. The nuclear deal with Iran was met with a profound wariness in the Arab world, where concerns are widespread that the easing of its international isolation could tip the already bloody contest for power in the region toward Shiite-led Tehran.
Arab countries have deep fears of Iran gaining a nuclear weapon, and some have been skeptical that a deal will prevent that from happening. But equally high for key Sunni-dominated Gulf allies of the United States is the worry that a deal gives Iran the means — through an economic windfall — and an implicit green light to push influence in the region.
The Arab world has been polarized for years in a worsening proxy conflict between Iran and Gulf powers, particularly Saudi Arabia, fueling Sunni-Shiite tensions and stoking wars.
In Syria, Iran’s support has ensured the survival of President Bashar Assad against Sunni rebels backed by Gulf nations in a devastating civil war, now in its fifth year.
Yemen has been torn apart this year as Saud…

  19. Please don’t? Really I don’t care what the gulf states think about their influence seeing that they armed and financed ISIS to begin with

  20. Mr. Yeshuratnam,

    Sanctions- weren’t working. Obviously.

The new game in town- we get to go into their country and do some inspecting. As opposed to taking the word of intelligence operatives alone.
Yes, 24 days heads up. But we also have spy satellites trained to track whatever activity goes on.

And when it comes to Muslims- tensions have been rising there ever since the days Isaac and Esau.
Muslims themselves will utilise whatever advantage they can in an effort to gain an edge over a traditional enemy, up to and including attacking during Ramadan, the time their Prophet said to not do.

When hasn’t there been a conflict there?

  21. Thank the flying spaghetti monster for J Street: “I think it’s going to be a really epic fight. The foreign policy fight of a generation,” said Jeremy Ben-Ami, president of J Street, a liberal advocacy group. “It pits folks who brought us the Iraq war and whole neocon worldview versus the Obama worldview and the concept that we can confront enemies with diplomacy.”

  23. Do you ever have anything other than that to say? Some could say you are just spamming the board with the same message

  24. And if the Arab world gets into a fight; pity the poor Insurgents

    Why?

Because they won’t know who to join for a chance to kill Americans.

  25. How is it that because he is Jewish he give Republicans more camera time on all issues not just those which affect the Jewish community?
